A flash of pearly whites and the Prodigal is back

290

He was our North, our South, our East and West.  Then he was someone else’s in the Midlands, but he’s back, he’s ours, and he’s here for…., well, at least three-in-a-row!  With a flash of those pearly whites, the Prodigal Manager, Brendan Rodgers, has taken over as manager of Celtic.  He joins legends Billy McNeill and Neil Lennon as men who have been permanent Celtic managers on two separate occasions.

It is easy to forget how far the club came in less than three years when Brendan was first in charge.  Tarps were taken from the Lisbon Lions stand, replaced by a season ticket waiting list.  Champions League football returned after a hiatus, and the entire professionalism of the football operation leapt forward.

The Celtic he returns to in 2023 is vastly improved that when he found it in 2016, or even when he left in 2019.  Already in the Champions League, Brendan will find a united dressing room, backroom and supporter base.  We should all try hard to keep things this way, self-indulgent schisms do nothing for Celtic.

Work starts now.  We must win the league and improve performances and results in the Champions League, and to do the latter, we need additions to the squad.  Brendan will also hope he can again improve the performance of players he inherits at the club.

After all that went before, it takes balls come straight back to Celtic after his stint in Leicester.  At 50, he is at the start of what should be his most productive decade in management.  His ambition was never in doubt, so strap in and enjoy the ride.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan.

I’m still celebrating the treble of 68/69. Three trophies in April. This catch up malarkey is hard work. 🙄

The football philanderer has returned to the family home

I am pleased to see him back, I missed him, but I’m not ready to throw my arms around him, just yet

He’s in the spare room for now

I had a short affair with an Aussie, what a ride that was after a baron year – Im still getting over that

When BR first walked through our door I was giddy with nervous excitement

He had me at “it’s great to be here”

This time I am a bit more cautious Im not giving myself completely just because he smiled at me

He needs to win me over before I start (metaphorically) hugging him

So I’m really glad he is back

But don’t expect it on the first night

I’m holding out until we hump the Huns at Ipox

Note to the GB give him a chance before throwing him out

What is going through the GB heads? Not much would he a guess.”

I have met quite a few GBers and have found them intelligent, decent young guys. I cannot speak for the hangers on, though.

  7. I have today caught up on that McKeown article in the Mail on Sunday.

He manages to mention PL getting strung up, the IRA shooting Brendan, the barrier chuckers, winning in europe being the new benchmark not winning domestic honours, we only win things because “the rangers” were not there, beating aberdeen no big acheivement, humpings by barca and psg, rangers with disasterous management appointments, ange lucky but another rat and a one trick pony (winning i think he means), and if Dermo was not a billionaire we wouldnt attract managers

it is an utterly disgraceful piece, and if i was at celtic i would have the lawyers on it.

same for the mcgown piece, if some think he is briefed by PL and allowed to write what he wants the failed before will fail again article is slanderous.

  8. Bournemouth sack Gary O’Neil after keeping them up comfortably and doing a great job with the group of players he had

  9. Hopefully Brendan will shape the team into a more effective fighting unit, I guess the worry if Ange was still around could the team literally keep running about mad every game.

Thinking that Brendan should have a good influence over the likes of Reo and Jota into playing in a more structured shape but we are also crying out for some height and experience …. so hopefully a good transfer window to follow

FWIW, the cricket does look very interesting . There will be a winner but just who is difficult to call. I feel it will be the Aussies.

  15. While I totally understand folks that are unhappy with the way BR left, I was as well, it seems to me that nobody is asking why, he didn’t leave for more money, he already was a multi millionaire, he left because of a personality clash, one which I hope that DD has managed to negate but it was a major factor in him leaving, IMO he left with DD’s blessing and the club banked £9 mill for their troubles, does anyone really believe that had he left the way the media spun things DD would have him back, not a hope in hell, as always the media are doing everything in their power to divide the support, they hate us FFS, and folks, some at least are clinging on to their every word, open your eyes.

  16. Absolutely delighted

A huge thanks to the board for appointing the overwhelming ,outstanding candidate that is Brendan Rodgers.

The SMSM are already on the defensive (Always a good sign) See Tom English if you need to gauge their fear.

They got nothing from Ange, and Brendan already has them sussed and more.

This feels like winning the lottery (Getting Ange) then losing the ticket (Ange again) Then finding it down the side of the chair (Brendan)

    Amazing

  21. The dig about someone looking to enhance their appearance says so much more about you than Brendan P67. Brendan works in a role where appearance is important and when humans look good they tend to feel good and when one feels good they’re performance rises which helps the club we love . Unable to see the downside myself.

I agree Celtic are much better run now , wonder what’s changed? Oh yeah our new CEO is performing brilliantly in the role he is payed for. Why not put Celtic first before your relationship with an ex CEO who’s replacement is performing much better. Spent 5 years on here telling you so.

Welcome back Brendan, time to put serious distance between us and Sevco and make gradual small improvements in Europe. Your so called poor European record is better than Ronnie’s, Lennys and Ange. The poor Euro record is obviously Celtic’s not the individual manager’s, which suggests how the club was run. Improved CEO should bring some gradual Europe improvements.

  22. Oh yeah, and before I forget:

Get it right round ye Ange Postecoglu !!!!

  23. Who is this CEO, who bought him, and which position does he play that he can bring an improvement in europe ?

Welcome back to the prodigal. I was also one the those absolutely digusted at the haste he darted down to Engerland for the poisoned EPL pound. My wife, who also loves Celtic but loves Liverpool in an equal way, asked me at the time would I welcome BR back at any time in the future. Of course my answer was a resounding NO with a few not so nice words added. She being the wiser of us laughed and said Ill ask you in a years time which she duly did. The answer was still NO but with not so much venom. So you all can imagine the atmosphere at home for the the last two weeks, when she heard of my excitement with BR links getting stronger by the min and with I told you so ringing in my ears even though she may not have actually utted those words!!! Anyway, two years ago if I had to choose between an unknown Ange or Brendan, I would of course have chosen Brendan. If his departure was mainly fuelled by transfers over his head and not supported by the board then this is excellent. Hes back older and wiser and the fact that himself and Lawell are back in the same camp can only mean good things for us.

Today completes an amazing two weeks for me, I got to my first cup final since 1989 and last week my eldest son graduated in Galway University as a doctor. Im on a high and cant wait for the season to begin!

Yeah, redemption is possible, Anakin redeemed himself when he turfed the Emperor off that platform on the 2nd Death Star, but that doesn’t mean you forget he also went into a room in the Jedi Temple and sliced and diced a bunch of Younglings…

  26. Rock Tree Bhoy on

For Brendan to come back when he would not have been short of offers, was planning to take a year out, and would almost certainly be aware that the GB don’t want him, I’ll have some of that.

Who knows the real reasons why he left in the middle of the season to go to Leicester, but they must have been solid reasons rather than what the Celtic Hating MSM would have you believe. We did complete another treble that season so he left us in good nick.

Delighted we’ve got the best man we possibly could have – rather than another throw of the dice,

    welcome back Brendan.
