A flash of pearly whites and the Prodigal is back

290

He was our North, our South, our East and West.  Then he was someone else’s in the Midlands, but he’s back, he’s ours, and he’s here for…., well, at least three-in-a-row!  With a flash of those pearly whites, the Prodigal Manager, Brendan Rodgers, has taken over as manager of Celtic.  He joins legends Billy McNeill and Neil Lennon as men who have been permanent Celtic managers on two separate occasions.

It is easy to forget how far the club came in less than three years when Brendan was first in charge.  Tarps were taken from the Lisbon Lions stand, replaced by a season ticket waiting list.  Champions League football returned after a hiatus, and the entire professionalism of the football operation leapt forward.

The Celtic he returns to in 2023 is vastly improved that when he found it in 2016, or even when he left in 2019.  Already in the Champions League, Brendan will find a united dressing room, backroom and supporter base.  We should all try hard to keep things this way, self-indulgent schisms do nothing for Celtic.

Work starts now.  We must win the league and improve performances and results in the Champions League, and to do the latter, we need additions to the squad.  Brendan will also hope he can again improve the performance of players he inherits at the club.

After all that went before, it takes balls come straight back to Celtic after his stint in Leicester.  At 50, he is at the start of what should be his most productive decade in management.  His ambition was never in doubt, so strap in and enjoy the ride.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan.

  1. If we played on the break nobody would catch a Mikey Johnston on the break at speed.

  2. TET,

Rumours of Ndidi, who would certainly be that enforcer.£17 million Leicester paid for him.A year left on his contract.Who knows, but would fit the bill.

  3. I will adorn myself from round about August in the new strip.About £15 ,I would expect here,at this exchange rate.Only to be worn on Match days and Sunday market.By order of Mrs TB Putin.

    Quite right too.

  4. Hopefully Ange does well at Spurs don`t like all this grudges and bad blood, we must now surely know that if someone does well at Celtic player or manager then one flash of EPL money and they`l be off.

  5. Nice pictures Scullybhoy.

Hopefully the prayers of those 2 God`s will reach Brendan and the bhoys.

Does the arrival of Brendan Roger’s signal the end of “Pedrophobia” ( the fear that one man has the power to shape reality rather than be shaped by it.)

As ever “we’ll see” but it will be a step in the right direction if it does.

    My opinion Auldheid

Pedrophobia being an irrational fear ruminated to the point it is impacting their reality and view of Celtic?

    So many facets and strands

    -Owner vs ManagementCEO

DD(involved circa 93ish) vs CEO lifelongfan

In results driven business ,both are happy,

Strong continuous results on books and team

    No Baumolian divergence.

–owner vs Chairman this last year.

    Treble success.

Move to chair a success, tho those weary of PL presence ignore his duties on Chair are non exec in PLC terms(hence Chris and Michael prob still enjoying a sangria after negotiations) both there in an executors role obn behalf of DD(owner) I would suggest this is important as there is the new bhoys in town, with Michael and Chris on exec side with DD(Ross) on Owners/principal shareholding side.135 years since we left the hall and lookin forward to the next 1,2,5,10, 50 etc years

The distinction in roles ceo to chair is important

Looking at results as successful the last 23 as say the first 23.

PL will be in chair for a while.it would be poor form from what I understand of exec workings to throw away his knowledge, knowhow and advise to that next generation hopefully taking over the reins and building and making Celtic èven more a force in the future.

    As always plenty to do

    ‘Let’s get to work’

If the sleepy silent boring 51k seated sheep got up off of their knees and stood shoulder to shoulder with their GB comrades then the pro Old Firm PLC `frauds` the real frauds, then the PLC might realise that their lazy lounge lizard gigs might be coming to an end…maybe?

    ===

Dont give me the line that the GB failed to expose the real frauds because of lack of support.

Their support of Res12 which has exposed OF fraud was sought from the GB.

I cannot recall if that was before or after PL had denied sight of the 5WA but I do know that Doncaster e mail was provided to a CST official with good GB relationship and in both cases there was no support to call out the Board.

Not one fecking GB banner supporting Res12.

The GB chap, a very able fellow did at least listen to the case for their involvement but that was a path the GB did not wish to follow as they had other priorities.

You would have thought that the GB and CST, apparently does of the Board and PL would have grabbed the opportunity to call him out but they didnt.

Just like the 51k supporters they accuse of inaction.

I can understand the inertia of the 51k but not the GB/CST.

It made me wonder just how strong their opposition to PL actually was or was it just a failure to comprehend the complexities of FFP/5WA denial and so the opportunity they presented to remove PL in a legitimate fashion.

  8. SFtBs @ 10:31 PM,

The “we” I’m talking of is Celtic supporters who know how Celtic have operated.

Whether that is our informal City Group arrangement, our go to Agents working in Israel and beyond, our relationships with SKY, Neil Doncaster and dealing with the new Rangers and the 5wa

Our relationships within ECA and Uefa our moneyball approach to recruitment – all the schmoozing and approaches that Peter Lawwell led.

It of course comes from the CQN leads that we are told are “ITK”

A month ago we were told of the importance of the City Group…

Much of what is going well for Celtic these days happened because of the City Group’s off-field talent development strategy. We have had a profitable, informal, partnership with them for many years, culminating in the recruitment of a spectacularly successful manager and head of recruitment. For this reason, I want their on-field strategy to be successful, because ours is a scaled down version.

We have had many lead articles that were telling us of the way forward for Celtic and the new management and staff, BR was not in our plans

    “Rodgers interview is just noise”

For me the fact that CQN had been incorrectly briefed and that the Executive had been following quite different aims and objectives doesn’t mean that the Lawwells should “walk”.

We have been told that Mark is a very experienced head scout, we have a dozen players to sell this window and a handful of top quality, first team ready players to bring in – his role is crucial

Peter is now Chairman, whether he has been sticking to his Chairman’s brief or not since January, and from what we can see and hear there was mission creep, it would seem from now on he will have his role and should be sticking to it.

If he can do that and become a team player I see no reason why he shouldn’t stay on.

    Hail Hail

  9. Auldheid where are you now with all of these resolutions put your feet up for just a we while.

  10. AULDHEID, don`t you think that even though the Lawwell`s have all of that experience and skill set to offer that the levels of suspicion that they`ll create will undo all of their talents?

Ernie Lynch seems to think that company law should prohibit PL even from being on the board?

Ernie is a very smart guy maybe he`ll enlighten you about this if you ask him.

  11. The GB’s statement concerning the magnificent appointment of Brendan Rodgers was a declaration of war against Celtic FC. A good time for DD to take on the GB traitors. Shut them down. Refund the season cards for eveyone in that section and offer them waiting list applications. Give them time to reflect and grow up. 25 years after the GFA and the end of war yet they continue to scream out loud at every opportunity about Sam missiles et al. Time to move on. Strike whilst the iron’s hot and in a position of strength. The main body of the Celtic support is at odds with these cretins. Take them out DD. Adelante!

  12. Celtic FC are in a position of strength, the Ffith Column grappling at straws. To what end?

  13. SIONNAIGH

The GB are what prevents the stadium from becoming a library.

They have definite faults my guess is that that comes from leadership from within the club, or lack of it.

The club gave these supporters details to the police when the Scots government brought out laws to specifically arrest and jail Celtic supporters, when other laws that were in place were not being utilised as it would then have put Scots government on confrontation footing with the hun supporters.

The Scots government knew that Celtic PLC were too busy looking after themselves to offer any representation to their customer base, so the government took the easy way out.

Celtic PLC`s meek attendance at the Salmond Summit after the Shame Game were Celtic got 3 players booked was a bad move, made Celtic look pathetically week.

Not long after this weakness by the PLC the Celtic fans got `kettled` by the Scots government police force.

Celtic should have utilised their own media to put the message out as to why the club will be snubbing the Salmond Summit as the Scots government only pulled this stunt for a helping hand to the huns to make it look as though Celtic were 50% to blame for the Shame Game.

The club should have advised everyone at the club, fans, players, managers, etc, not to get that particular political party elected after they had openly declared war on Celtic supporters.

That leadership never came from the executive level of the club then, and its still the same today.

  14. AULDHEID

I might be wrong on this, but was it you who said that we should become a membership run club and get rid of the shareholding structure, if it was not you I apologise I thought maybe the membership plan would get rid of the PLC secret stuff, no doubt there will be traps somewhere along the line.

  15. Chairbhoy

It of course comes from the CQN leads that we are told are “ITK”

Who told us this was “in the know”? Who told us this is still in the know?

If it’s a projection we did or do place on it, then we cannot criticise when it gets it wrong or praise it when it gets it right.

However, if it claims this for itself and is boastful of the claim, it deserves all it gets. Where does Paul boast about this?

For me the fact that CQN had been incorrectly briefed and that the Executive had been following quite different aims and objectives doesn’t mean that the Lawwells should “walk”.

Well, first we have to establish that there was a briefing. It could have been Paul67’s incorrect reading of what is/was going on. I read lots of ITK posters on lots of sites, including some favoured by yourself. Some got the Rodgers prediction right but paired him with Scott Brown, others confidently predicted Maresca. Were they briefed and misled or were they responsible for their own failed prediction?

If the Majority shareholder was pursuing a false alternative strategy to that which he briefed the Executive to take, then, surely, you can see that their position is untenable. They were, in your scenario,

    Not trusted with the plan

Sent off on a wild goose waste of time

Exposed to public and Supporter ridicule (not to mention blog posters)

Why would you not walk if you were in the position you paint the “Executive” as being in?

Of course, there is an alternative explanation to your scenario; there almost always is if you stop to reconsider your own certainties.

What if various members of the Board were pursuing a new manager and keeping options in play, having learned a lesson from being played along by Eddie Howe and his 100 days of being an option rather than a certainty? What if Paul read the runes, other bloggers did and nailed his colours to the Maresca mast without any steer or direction from PL or any other pigmented bogeyman? What if Maresca was our Postecoglou and Brendan was our Howe? He had given an indication of strong interest but was not prepared to sign up until he had a clearer indication of the support reaction. Neither was he in a rush to declare he was definitely coming back whether he was awaiting for some assurances from DD re financial backing or whether he was waiting on flowers, crocs and an apology from a repentant Peter Lawwell. In that scenario, lots of Celts would have been inclined to vote in favour of a less reluctant bride with a shorter pre-nap agreement.

Still, if you had the patience to wait a few days to see the smoke clear, you learn that Brendan has signed but no Broony. You learn that one of your other choices has gone to Leicester, a gig that Brendan fancied more than Celtic so he may stillbe jealous of the former Man City “asst” manager.

As I say, Brendan has come and Peter Lawwell is still here and Mark Lawwell is still here. All those predictions of a Machiavellian power struggle in which one party must triumph and one must be scourged till they walk, have not actually panned out. The Soap Opera has been soft soaped. Those who predicted Maresca were wrong and are facing a charge of being a conduit for misinformation. Those who predicted Rodgers and Brown are being hailed as properly informed even though they were only half right. I take the simple view that all those bloggers, who got it right or wrong, were exercising their own view. I afford them the same luxury you would ask for yourself i.e. that you are expressing your own honestly held views.

It is too common a theme on social media to say, when people disagree over readings of runes, that the guy with the contrary opinion is just a mouthpiece for someone. You insult and diminish the person by doing so. You are stating that their opinion is not their own and that, therefore, they are not to be trusted.

If PL was a Machiavellian Social Media manipulator then he has not embedded that reputation. It is a long time since CQN was an influential representation of any section of the Celtic support, apart from maybe the Elderly. If I wanted to use Celtic Social media to get through to the support, there would be 10 other sites with greater or equal sway and , probably, gravitas, as CQN. Nobody on e-tims or KDS or The Huddleboard or Celtic Star or Joe McHugh’s blog or Sentinel Celts or on The Green Brigade site or on twitter, Instagram or TikTok are gonna be persuaded or turned by a carefully placed rumour on a Social Media Blog, any of them anymore.

The overwhelming reaction to Paul’s leaders by outside blogs, trolls re-appearing here and by a great many of the regulars here was that Paul was flying a kite in extolling Maresca and briefing against Brendan and it gained no traction.

So, if this was a PL or a Lawwell Joint exercise we can add to the existing charges of being untrusted, lied to and shat on by the major shareholder, the charge of incompetency in planning a Palace Coup. But that’s only if you believe in the soap opera.

I think, without any inside knowledge or leaks, that PL and Mark Lowell were kept as fully informed of progress in the BR negotiations whilst they and others investigated other options like Maresca, Iraola, McKenna etc; I don’t believe any subterfuge or misdirection had to be deployed.

And the only proof I can offer is that all these apparently cheating and conniving parties are still gonna be operating Celtic successfuly, I hope for the next year or two. No-one will walk because they were shafted or shat on because it didn’t happen.

And that’s a good thing, cos we need some continuity.

  16. Good Morning Timland – Champion Day To Be A Celt…

First full day into Brendan’s new era and we are already looking in great shape… seamless

    SFtBs @ 1:57 AM,

Let’s start with my opening paragraph in response to Auldheid’s comment…

Well that’s very interesting, as I’m sure you are aware CQN gets it’s info and spin from big Pedro and his agents.

So any other blog or social media’s input is irrelevant, I’m discussing CQN and CQN only

Next is the “assumption” that CQN is “ITK” and is being briefed by big Pedro’s camp.

This maybe right or wrong, but Paul67 has made it clear he has a strong relationship with PL and gets information from him.

    There are multiple examples.

In fact he said the year around the Rangers demise that he talked to PL every day.

When fholk on here were blaming PL for Dominic McKay leaving, Paul67 stated that PL was on holiday and had nothing to do with it.

Now, Paul67 maybe making some of this up, in fact he could be a fantasist and be making all of this up, yet the fact remains…

…the default for readers of CQN is that Paul67 has a close relationship with PL, is briefed by PL’s camp and is batting for his side.

So that is the assumption I’m going on – if you can prove this to be a false assumption I’m happy to hear it but please, stick to the facts and leave the tangential approach out, or we end up all over the shop.

Let’s make this doubly clear, what I’m talking about in my response to Auldheid is CQN and that CQN is briefed by the PL camp and in that regard CQN is “ITK”

    Anything else is whitewash

BTW: You seem to have misunderstood what the company executive is!? Worth looking it up, the company executive at Celtic in this case are the CEO and the CFO – the Chairman is a non-exec

    Hail Hail

  17. Good morning all from a dry but overcast Garngad.

Lets get working now on the squad now that BR is finally confirmed.

I feel another treble on its way.

    D :)

  18. Taurangabhoy on

The new home top is honking but having the title worst strip ever will make it popular if you know what I mean. Hated the black and green vertical stripped strip when it first came out but now think it’s great. Let’s hope I feel the same about Brendan this time next year 😆

  19. So Celtic finally secure our new manager. One with a good deal of experience of managing 2 EPL sides to a successful level from where they started. A managed who won plenty with Celtic and who is regarded on a par with our dear departed.

Yet on here we still have Peter Lawwell living large in people’s conspiracy racked brains.

As for the green brigade …….

Thank god for the cricket !

£25 for a ticket to what I hope will be ashes history. It will feel like going away to intoxicated with all the red white and blue today and rooting for the green and gold. Hopefully more than 800 in the stadium mind you and spread around the stadium.

An England win and we will hear about it for decades. An Aussie win and we might get an article in the Telegraph.

Pat Cummins to score the winning boundary at 6.15 on a rain affected day is my prediction. Susie’s by 3 wickets.

  20. Taurangabhoy on

Turkeybhoy Ndidi looks interesting. We need an enforcer for the agricultural scoddish teams but asking in Europe so that we are not mugged. If it’s not him let’s hope we have identified a young mid enforcer.
