A money blog: CL, FX, Brendan effect, commercial deals

644

The spectacular rise in income, which saw Celtic bank £61.2m in the six months to 31 December 2016, compared to £52.0m in the TWELVE months to 31 June 2016, was influenced by four categories:

Champions League participation
Improved commercial sponsorship deals
The Brendan Rodgers effect
Foreign exchange rates

Clinging onto a lead that August night in Israel guaranteed this would be a record turnover season for Celtic, instead of what may have been a loss. As well as the Uefa dividend itself, we sell more tickets for other games in seasons we participate in the Champions League. We also sell more merchandise, premium packages and hot dogs at league games.

I was very surprised when news of the Dafabet and Magners deals filtered through last spring. Sentiment at the club at that time was on its bum, but these contracts brought a significant increase in income (in the case of Dafabet) and great income for a new property (in the case of Magners). Worthy mention also to Intelligent Car Leasing, for the boost they have given to the Foundation.

The ready-reckoner revealed that the value of these contracts roughly equated to one season’s Champions League money. It was a huge result, which laid a critical foundation for the steps the club took to secure a manager in May.

We were guaranteed more money, which gave us more confidence, which fuelled the move to secure a top manager. The small snippets of history are often missed, but no less fascinating.

Brendan Rodgers arrived like a superstar and has delivered on that promise. From the moment touched down in Scotland he sold season tickets, the club united behind a talented manager who is here determined to achieve great things.

capture-20170207-120456

No club in the world is more dependent on foreign exchange rates than Celtic (euro/GBP graph above). The economically illiterate (don’t start me) who voted for Brexit have caused an untold net harm to the world, but as sterling depreciated against the euro, the value of Celtic’s euro income from Uefa in GBPs went through the roof.

We are a football club playing in Scotland who earn euros and sterling in almost equal measure. Bad UK economic news may harm our sterling income but will boost our euro income. No other club operates a scenario like this.

Well done to all concerned, from Brendan and the players, to the tens of thousands who bought tickets and mechanise, and the commercial team and board.

There is no excuse for grown ups to lump perfectly reasonable leaders in with sadistic dictators.

Franco is definitely not in the latter camp.

Under the dire and testing circumstances he fought to keep Catholics from bloody murder by communists and their idealistic international gullibles.

    ====================================================

Franco brought in Hitler`s Luftwaffe to bomb Guernica.

A wee rehearsal for the blitz.

Incidentally , I hold no candle for the other mob who murdered the clergy for being the clergy.

“The infrastructure limitation have become very apparent to the young offenders and they are taking advantage of the situation.”

no running water, no cooling, treated like felons for misdemeanours, imagine the AMSM portraying human rights abuses as the only options available to treat juveniles.

No surprise those who support abuse of human rights try to counter and obfuscate without balance, just blame the children, they are not immigrants like us eh

If you violate the sovereignty of a nation, don’t expect plush bed and breakfast for your accommodations when you get caught.

Illegal immigrants entering Australia are criminals, who are just as likely to break other laws once they arrive.

They have no respect for law and order.

    Big Pete,…,

I understand completely, not so sure you do, point being the criminals were of aboriginal decent, it was the immigrant prison security services I was discussing, people like you who try to justify that kind of behaviour but in this case you support the immigrants against the locals.

Maybe follow the link next time before betraying your bigotry, to be honest the Islamification of Australia is no more than you deserve :)

Hopefully those with dual nationality will have that removed, as the world becomes more insular to suit people like your preferences, it becomes inevitable. You loose all right to a UK passport :)

Don’t assume pal, that every link you post will be read. A summation would be helpful.

These topics are complex in nature and no cute one liners from anyone on here, including me, will do them justice.

That being said, the aboriginal problem, and it is a problem, is one of their own making. Anyone who goes bush here will see the absolute shambles that they call community: some will call it uncivilised living.

Chronic crime, alcohol abuse, unemployment. And yet they get every opportunity to succeed like all other Australians, indeed even more so as they receive far greater monetary benefits and educational grants than non aboriginals.

Those who are in jail are there for a reason. Criminals.

Those who riot in jail, should be locked in solitary and have their sentences extended.

In jail they have every opportunity to demonstrate they are upstanding citizens. They are afforded educational opportunity to whatever level they desire.

    Is it accepted?

    Nope.

So you tell me what the problem is?

That’s nothing, just wait ’til plod arrives.

  16. Education is key to a better living. Education, Education, Education was a correct soundbyte.

It is fascinating to hear the views and opinions of fellow Celtic fans. I may not agree with them all, but thanks to education I can decide for myself.

However being a better educated demographic people, it means that we no longer meekly accept what our ” betters” tell us. From gay marriage in Ireland to the collapse of Labour support in Scotland to Brexit in the U.K. The old days and pecking order are gone forever. Threats and expressions of looming doom are now being ignored.

IMO we need a new rejuvenated Labour movement that speaks with the people, not down to the people. We need TUC bossess that put their members interests first, not refighting outdated class wars. We need to recognise that ordinary people are the equal of the decision makers. As a society,We need to recognise that further education is not for all, and training for work is just as valuable.

We have seen the hypocrisy of politicians of all colours, most have not listened. They have spoken, then spoken , then spoken again, but they have not listened.

As a Celtic supporter coming out of the ground , I have been aware of the numerous amazing cars I now see. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, I welcome it; but it’s a very basic evidence that over the years the Celtic support has changed. There is no going back.

I still believe that the vast majority of Celtic fans believe in social justice and equality. But they also want the material benefits that they and their forefathers have worked so hard for. No extremes of political ideology can give them that.

The people have taken back control: in the real sense.

HH to all, my friends in Celtic.
