Aberdeen, Newco and Celtic sign wingers with different targets

263

Within around a week of each other, Aberdeen, Newco and Celtic are all likely to sign wide midfield players, although with different profiles. Niall McGinn re-joins Aberdeen on a contract which will expire in 2021, a few weeks short of his 34th birthday. Celtic are set to announce the capture of St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan (21) imminently, while Newco have confounded all by paying money (or at least promising to) for former Motherwell winger, Jamie Murphy (28).

Murphy was irrepressible at Motherwell and it’s no surprise the Newco coaches were interested in him. Media photographs of him this morning suggest he’s a tad out of shape, but if he can recapture his Motherwell form he will be a solid SPFL player.

When Niall McGinn went to Korea in the summer it appeared to signal the end of an Aberdeen team which comfortably established itself as the second best in Scotland – recording a Best of the Rest treble last season. Considering the departures from Pittodrie, and manager Derek McInnes’ dalliances with other clubs, it is surprising Aberdeen have managed to hold onto second spot.

They will need McGinn back at his productive best if they are to finish the season in second against Newco (caveat: if the latter remains solvent).

Celtic’s opportunity is all about transforming Lewis Morgan into the next Stuart Armstrong. As well as being the preferred destination for aspiring talent, we have the luxury of being able to plan long-term. Right now, Lewis is the most exciting prospect of all three. He will join Celtic because he wants to become a Champions League player, not fight for second place.

That will take work on the part of the player, but they know what they are doing at Lennoxtown.

  1. I saw posts about Leonard Cohen yesterday. Here he is singing Kevin Barry in 1972.

The song was wasn’t written in 1916 but after Kevin’s ‘Execution’ in 1920.

Kevin’s family tried to find the song’s author and believed it was written by a Glasgow based Irishman…apparently.

Maybe a CQNer knows the details of the song writer?? :)

Yes the European Cup winners cup semi-final . Couldn’t get a ticket when we won 1-0 at home .

Did go to the final at Hampden though and witnessed the scousers getting beat by ?? a German team.

It was the warm up for the next season when the hoops won everything including the Big European Cup.

  3. Idle gambling warning.

    Do not:

go onto skybet to back WITS horses in a double (close thing) and meander into the Liverpool v Everton Request-a-bets where you note the bet of ‘Sigurdsson to score from outside the box and Van Dijk to score a header’ at 200/1.

Then stick it on your bet slip with the notion of having a couple of quid on it for interest’s

    sake.

    Then…

Nah, and delete it from the slip thinking the 2 quid will be better served on a line tomorrow.

    Do:

    go with your instinct sometimes.

    Happy Bloody New Year.

  7. HENDERSON HORSES,

His only horse yesterday got well beat in a Flat race…even the 100/1 outsider ran past it LOL.

I’ll forgive Mr Henderson this time.

Today is a wee bit curious for a couple of reasons.

His NO.1 Jockey Nico De Bonville is riding at SANDOWN, and has 3 mounts…one for HENDERSON in the 3.35 called “CALL ME LORD” priced around 7/2.

This is despite the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow at 2.05, and Hendersons runner is “BEWARE THE BEAR” priced around 11/1.

Make of that what you will. I have backed both.

Another Henderson horse is “double booked” at both SANDOWN and CHEPSTOW and is called ” WE HAVE A DREAM”…it is priced at both long and short odds on at either meeting ? So watch for confirmation where it does run ?

The FACT that NICO the TOP Henderson Jockey is riding at SANDOWN ( including Hendersons only runner there), could be viewed as perhaps a “TIP” in itself ?

Ordinary punters like myself don’t have a clue about such situations, it’s purely guesswork.

Anyways, best of luck to ALL who have a wee flutter, whether it’s Henderson horses or not ?

  8. I do hope that Celtic have ” A HEADER on CLAUSE” for Virgils transfer, meaning that EVERYTIME he wins a HEADER…Celtic get another £ 50 Grand…IF it’s a winning goal Header…Celtic get another £100,000….wouldn’ that be nice ?

On a serious note ( well as serious as one can be about the Mankie Sevco)….I see some Sevco fans are upset about Celtic’s ability to become

    considerably richer than THEM ?

it makes you laugh at yet again the sheer HYPOCRISY of this mob and its support.

I clearly remember under Murray in the 1980’s and 1990’s Hun fans doing a “Chelsea”…whereby they would wave £10 and £20 notes to the opposition supporters, shouting “LOADS A MONEY” !

ALL at a time when they refused to pay HMRC and other Bills….how the mighty have fallen.

  9. Big Jimmy,

I think I heard it mentioned on a podcast yesterday that Nicky Henderson has never won any of the big ‘National’ races – i.e. Grand National, Welsh/Scottish/Irish National, Midlands National etc.

I was a wee but surprised at that stat, and it’s gotta end someday!

Guys , for all of wondering what happened with the Jamie Murphy sevco deal yesterday, please remember that he had a medical to go through and the waiting times at the hospitals are at breaking point this time of year, be patient.

    H.H:-)

  12. 50 Shades Sevco do not have the money to buy Murphy. Everyone knows it except the Hampden Chuckle brothers. See John James. Hh

  13. Tim Malone Will Tell on

What’s the scoop with Murphy to Sevco? – Have the laundry mislaid Dave King’s money?

  14. If Murphy has gone to Florida there’s no way the deal between the clubs hasn’t been done. Perhaps personal terms are still to be sorted, but Brighton would be crazy to let their player join another club’s tour of various Disneyland Under 15 teams…

Sevco are getting money from somewhere. If it’s no longer Park, and King is bust, then someone is drip feeding their bank account. It’s staggering we don’t know who, and the authorities appear to be in no rush to ask. The authorities are being particularly remiss as, if an individual “investor” is buying Murphy, then does this same investor own the player’s contract, in whole or in part?

As vigilant Bampots. we’d do well to focus not so much on “when” they are going bust, but rather “how they are avoiding going bust”.

  15. So with the apparent signing of Murphy the face in Scottish Football continues.

As Auldheid stated here yesterday…(Page 1, this thread @12.49pm)

“The answer to the trust conundrum is to make the club licensing process subject to independent oversight before UEFA are informed and make the process itself much more transparent.

I would make ST purchase conditional on reform of the club licensing system and taking it out of the hands of the SFA.”

Auldheid later mentioned that perhaps the CSA or CT could become become involved.

Anyway I suppose it’s up to how much corruption the individual supporter can tolerate.

It’s up to you all I suppose.

Doubts were cast over Jamie Murphy’s dream move to Rangers this morning when he failed to get on the club’s flight to America.

The Brighton winger was expected to complete a £1 million switch to Ibrox last night in time for their winter break trip to Florida.

But as Graeme Murty and the rest of his players left Edinburgh Airport for Orlando, Murphy wasn’t on board as negotiations continued over his transfer.

    ………………

    Oh Dear….have Brighton said.. ” Nae Money…………….NAE Murphy” ?

Maybe they couldn’t afford his air fare…so Murphy will be rowing himself across the Atlantic ?
