Within around a week of each other, Aberdeen, Newco and Celtic are all likely to sign wide midfield players, although with different profiles. Niall McGinn re-joins Aberdeen on a contract which will expire in 2021, a few weeks short of his 34th birthday. Celtic are set to announce the capture of St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan (21) imminently, while Newco have confounded all by paying money (or at least promising to) for former Motherwell winger, Jamie Murphy (28).
Murphy was irrepressible at Motherwell and it’s no surprise the Newco coaches were interested in him. Media photographs of him this morning suggest he’s a tad out of shape, but if he can recapture his Motherwell form he will be a solid SPFL player.
When Niall McGinn went to Korea in the summer it appeared to signal the end of an Aberdeen team which comfortably established itself as the second best in Scotland – recording a Best of the Rest treble last season. Considering the departures from Pittodrie, and manager Derek McInnes’ dalliances with other clubs, it is surprising Aberdeen have managed to hold onto second spot.
They will need McGinn back at his productive best if they are to finish the season in second against Newco (caveat: if the latter remains solvent).
Celtic’s opportunity is all about transforming Lewis Morgan into the next Stuart Armstrong. As well as being the preferred destination for aspiring talent, we have the luxury of being able to plan long-term. Right now, Lewis is the most exciting prospect of all three. He will join Celtic because he wants to become a Champions League player, not fight for second place.
That will take work on the part of the player, but they know what they are doing at Lennoxtown.

Danso1888-7:05.how that?
Terrible challenge from Rooney. Should have been a red.
Looked at card betting, Rooney was 6/1 fav…….i think we know why…..a move on ….
Red all day
Red all day unless you’re Danso1888
Very soft pen,
McCarthy looks good for a red card……
Loose cannon.
Rooney will be subbed before he is sent off
Soft.
I keep thinking that Liverpool are playing like us last week. Wonder if a goal will change things for them?
McCarthy came on against Chelsea and did the same but to be fair he gave them a g up
That lad Holgate should be off.
That’s two reds and counting, and we think our refs are pish
Bobby Maddley / Bobby Massed
Madden even
Neither were red cards, both yellows.

a minor miracle to be more than solvent when squeezed between the biggest sporting cheat and the biggest sporting hype
CRC and anyone else interested,
The time bar was a final last ditch attempt to bury res12 , we questioned the claim on a number of aspects
When did the time bar commence ?
1. 31st March ? Before UEFA knew of license grant ?
2. May 26th ? Day of UEFA receipt of license grant ?
3. June 30th ? Last chance to declare the truth ?
We took May 26th to be worst case scenario, the rules on the time bar excluded holidays from the count, so a quick calc of the holidays gave us 84 days if memory serves, which qualified the res12 letter as within time which allows the Plc to follow up within the next 5 years, at least that’s how I read it.
Good Evening Bhoys and Ghirls
For those interested, Fat Bhoys Slim 2018 ( Two thousand and ate everthing) starts this weekend!
20 weeks ( to Cup final weekend) to try and lose some weight, have some offline banter and probably lose interest (not weight) after 11-12 weeks, but then again you never know!

Had a great game tonight. Wonderful going forward, not always great defensively but spot on tonight going both ways to be fair.
Not a bad debut by VVD.
Do we get anything for winning goals he scores? :)
VVD three seasons at Celtic and heard his voice for the first time tonight.
Well done Virgil.
Dessybhoy.
Regan’s appointment is a surprise but then again so was Trump being elected US President or Boris Johnson being appointed Foreign Secretary etc etc.
Seems to suggest you can fool all of the people all of the time.
A sign of the times.
