After PSG, conceding 5, 6 and 7 needs to stop

299

After the two drubbings  at the hand of Paris St Germain, I read how they were among the best teams ever to visit Celtic Park.  In the next round of the Champions League they lost home and away to Real Madrid (currently 15 points off the pace in La Liga).  The truth is, we flattered the French champions-elect.

PSG are not on the level of any of the Barcelona teams we have faced in recent years, or the Milan or Juventus teams who eliminated us from the Champions League knock out stages.  They have abundant talent, but this is not a team who should be beating us 0-5 and 7-1.

The Milan team we faced in 2007, who were on their way to winning the Champions League, contained Maldini, Gattuso, Seedorf, Pirlo, Inzaghi, Ambrosini and Kaka.  Celtic held them to two 0-0s over 90 minutes, with Telfer, McManus, O’Dea, Naylor and Sno in the side, none of whom would get into the current side.

Truth is, we have better players than at any point under Gordon Strachan and Neil Lennon.  The current crop have and will continue to achieve more domestically than their predecessors, but we cannot go toe-to-toe with Europe’s moneyed elite any more than Morton can at Celtic Park.

This season’s Champions League group was a five defeat and one win success.  We eliminated a higher seed – progress in anyone’s book.  But conceding five, six and seven goals needs to stop.  Defending against overwhelming talent is an art.  Let’s learn it.

    Mahe,

You’re not alone in the opinions you hold. Our club could have done the right thing but have done so little leaving it to supporters to fight the good fight. Shameful.

As the seasons have passed and the reasons for inaction expire the only conclusion I can come to is I’m the mug for paying into a rigged game.

I expect to see some stage managed activity around renewal time, perhaps the long awaited compliance officer investigation.

I ditched the home cup ticket scheme this year and gave the league cup and Scottish Cup a miss. I’m giving up my long held season book at the end of the season. Not an easy decision to make but really the only power I hold is to withdraw my financial support and buy a big TV to watch us on instead.

    Games a bogey.

  2. P.S. I’ve been bhoycotting buying a season ticket before Brendan turned up cos I want us to call out the same club nonsense – it’s there, under law, at Companies House.

While titles should be stripped due to their cheating, it’s their country, still. So, we will never win that one BUT, FFS, they were liquidated, deal with that Celtic, and then, I and probably others will return.

    Corkcelt,

Please believe me I don’t want to harm the club or destroy them. I really don’t. But I truly firmly believe if this report is a whitewash we must collapse the league in the hope we get a move or a clean one emerges. Like I said short term pain for long term gain.

I admire your posts and look out for them from my lurking status.

    Hail Hail

  4. Auldheid

I agree that Celtic Board should keep up the pressure on the SFA and don’t accept the cheating. I like some of the ideas on how we can continue to keep this rolling

I am interested to see how you think Regan leaving has helped our cause. Me I think when we finally get them in a corner, they will say it was Regan and Ogilvie’s fault and they are gone.

Funding different methods within the SFA rules and even outside the rules and via the Court of Arbitration are all avenues which I am sure have been explored.

I don’t think we even know of all the cheating that happened even prior to the EBT’s and DOS schemes. Tommy Coyne told me that they were cheating the Tax man in his day and their players were rubbing it into the Celtic players.

They were certainly cheating at Refereeing as was selection of our players for Scotland teams.

Just as our parents didn’t accept it neither should we and we should continue to challenge the cheats

  5. Got some info recently on the UEFA Licence investigation from a good source. Celtic have contacted the SFA re the investigation and have been advised it’s still ongoing.

  6. Mane

Like many on here, I seriously considered my options

I’ve decided, I will not do away games, do not do FtSFA cup, of the league cup where gates are shared

    Will not return to Hamdump

    But

I’ve decided I will not give up on Celtic and home league games or European games

Mind you I do miss at least 1 league game I pay for :-) and will not return to see that game, until our club treat them the same as any other visiting club

  8. I genuinely might be missing something here.

Quite a few posters say they will have nothing more to do with the game in Scotland because of corruption and Celtic`s apparent lack of response to this corruption.

Fine. Why, though, if these fellows are finished with the game here, do they still visit a Celtic Football site?

    Goodnight all.

  9. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

From memory , In the game Stephane Mahe was sent off against what was Rangers, his first booking was for being fouled by Wallace , who had elbowed Stephane in the chest but Stephane was penalised A decision he disputed.

His second booking was his reaction to Dallas not awarding us a foul after wee rat McCann brought Stephane down.

Good win for our under 17’s tonight.

Frends of mine were in Turin for our game there in 1981. They were witness to some of the attacks on our support . They have loathed Rubentus since.

One of our supporters required multiple stitches in his back after being slashed . The week after the game , the Celtic View had pictures of the injuries sustained by some of our support after being auttacked by Rubentus fans.

  10. My broader take on the bigger issue:

    The game on Sunday is really not important;

    We are easily a better side and if somehow they get a result it will be no more than a temporary set back;

    A draw on Sunday would be a result for them;

    The semi final’s different;

    Then we must win.

However if we we win Sunday it will destroy whatever confidence and bravado they’ve managed to muster.

So let’s get it done bhoys.

A man of priciples like myself! Well a big pat on the back brother for at least you didn’t just lie down and take it.

I haven’t seen your blogname before but will certainly look out for it in future.

It leaves me astounded of forehead that people know they are being cheated yet participate.

If you wouldn’t in other walks of life ( marriage, job etc) then why accept it at your club.

This sport is meant to be our release in life,, it’s probably my biggest stress right now.

Despite being in the States I figured I spent between 1 to 2 k a year on Celtic TV, every strip, and admission plus drink and food at the CSCs. That has been going on since 2004 when I emigrated.

I emailed the club and laid out my reasons why I feel I must walk away from the current setup.

Do you know what I got in return? They actually made it hard for me to cancel Celtic TV ,,,and not a single email, call, letter etc. Ah well no biggie.

Now I’m just a drop in the ocean to a club that is gonna turn over about a hundred million and I was faithful to them for decades,,but at least I can look in the mirror now and know Im not being taken for a ride. And neither will any children I’m blessed with if I have my way.

    Not this setup anyway.

The blog is fond of the dairies everyday, and it would be hard not to be moved by them, but I just wish our leaders were of that calibre. They should inspire us all for the battle to come.

Can I have your ticket on Sunday? ;)

  12. One of the main reasons we’ll always get a doing in Europe is our lack of a decent goalkeeper since Forster left.

Usual hot air and inaction tonight.

    Same massachistic tendencies too.

After 5 years of nothing, we are either impotent or ignorant.

Rather than hamstring the club, get up off your knees and organise some action.

Harsh, aye maybe, but 100% true.

well, Brendan will go back to where he came from, probably

In an earlier post you had mentioned john Cushley . Before i ditched sky sports and not long after john had passed away, harry Redknapp was on an episode of goals on Sunday.

Harry was given a photo of a West Ham squad In from the late sixties. He named all those in the photo . He got quite emotional when he mentioned John Cushley . He praised john as a man and player plus saying john had passed away recently from Motor Nuerone disease.

My view is that we need to get a huge impact base supporters action and reaction to show both the authorities and the club that we’ve heard enough and seen enough and witnessed nothing to change it.

My view is that we strain every possibility to persuade our fellow Celts to boycott both the semi final and the final when we’re there. Let’s make it zero attendance from Celtic fans. They’ll see us then.

  28. Ok Nytol – can I leave you with this wee repost

Ok Thanks for the prompt CRC

Had intended holding off until “mymhatemick” was sorted

    Here goes

Many thanks of you will be aware of my daughter Laura, and her very special Heart of Gold for those in desperate need of help.

CQN in the past has been very kind to Laura in supporting her charitable drives

Be that HCPT, and paying to take 2 very special kids to Lourdes, or through feeding and clothing for several months an orphanage in Kenya.

This year (Laura claims will be her last as she gets married next year) Laura is doing something totally different, but awesome and will make a Huge, no Gigantic difference to many hundreds of less fortunate girls.

This year Laura will be heading to a special Girls school in Ghana, which is supported by a charity called “Let us Shine” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gU9sx_kjRX8

This girls school is run in my view very similar to Mary’s Meals, and the charity/ school was set up by a local Stirling Doctor, Mary Higgins in memory of her Doctor husband.

St Mary’s primary school in Bannockburn have this school as it’s chosen charity, and the school is also sponsored by St Margaret’s Cowie and St Mary’s Raploch, plus the local Stirling churches.

Mary and her husband were very well known in the Stirling school/church community.

    Anyway

This July Laura is heading to Ghana to teach at this girls school for a month

Laura will be only the 2nd fully qualified teacher to teach at the school in its 5 year existence.

We are paying for Laura’s visit, but she is looking to raise £3000 for the school, to feed and cloth the girls.

St Mary’s Bannockburn, where Laura is a teacher are fully supporting and fundraising for this event, with the kids at school all doing wonderful things in supporting The fundraising.

One of the events Laura is looking for support.

On Friday March 23rd the school has arranged a Race Night ( adults only) to be held in the school hall, it’s a BYOB event.

Laura would be extremely grateful if any of the CQN brigade could join us at the race night £5 per ticket- join CRC at his table :-))

Also, very kindly donated by the Walk with Shay team, we have a few very special prizes on offer if CQN’rs were to be kind enough to sponsor the jockeys of the races on the night – again £5 per jockey (CRC will inform on the prizes)

We are also looking for some prizes for the raffle on the night

Thanks for you time and no doubt great support
