Ajer can follow van Dijk to top

600

Kristoffer Ajer made clear to Norwegian media his intentions to leave Celtic this summer. “With one year left of my contract, that would be the best solution for me and my club.  Something is going to happen this summer.”

Kris made it clear to the club two years ago he would not sign a new contract and has stuck to plan since.  For me, he was our stand-out Player of the Year last season and compares to the very best central defenders we have seen in the modern era.

At 23, Kris is one year older than Virgil van Dijk when he joined Celtic in 2013.  I would be hard pressed to pick a more impressive season between Kris’ last season or Virgil’s first.  Virgil was better in the air but I have never seen a Celtic central defender break through the lines as safely or effectively as Kris.  Virgil tried this but was not in the same class.

Just as we knew Virgil could do better than Southampton, Kris can do better than the apparently-keen Newcastle.  Liverpool could do worse than pair them up next season, he will play for a top EPL team eventually.  I hope we keep him for the European qualifiers.

    Hhmm.

Tom – am largely with you.

    “I don’t condone it but …..”

    “I don’t agree with it but ….”

    Some conventions should be inviolable.

Ask ourselves, if a group of Sevco ultras did that to our players what would our reaction be?

    Midlands transfer rumours

    Edouard – £18m ?

    Buendia – £33m ?

    If true, Odsonne undervalued.

Paper talk that Angelo will be announced this week (where have we heard that before).

If he’s the man, then we need him in pronto and need to back him. Once he’s clear of any quarantine requirements, then I don’t see any reason that he can’t be with the squad, even if UEFA paperwork is still pending. A shit load of incoming transfers will need to happen quickly (for once).

Back to Basics – Glass Half Full , Totally agree , ive allways thought we should loan players to EPL teams first then get the full whack for them , cutting out the middle club ( or Southhampton as their usually known ) :)

If, and its a big IF. If ange was our plan B you’d like to think the plan has ben in the pipeline for a while …..hopefully Ange has players in mind and has been looking at videos of our on field failings during the season .

I’m relaxed for this season , bar not to high if there is progression in every department on the park .

Cant believe i’m typing this ( progress in the cups and pressure Rangers ) but we have a mountain to climb .

we need to get this season right ,for next .season or

whatever happens im looking forward to it .

  9. I know a few people that were at the protests and seen no missiles launched but a couple of pieces.of fencing were knocked over. A few folk ran after the team bus telling the players what they thought of them. They also sang lenny get to fuck. I’d love to know where others get their info because I can’t see folk on here believing msm reports because it chimes with their condescending view of other Celtic fans, who don’t meet the high standards they set.

As I understand it, Ange is a coach, not a manager – or a DoF as it might be called nowadays.

So, most likely that someone at ‘our club’ will be assembling his chrissy list of possible buys for key positions.

Mibby he has one or two he can bring (watching his Marinos, Thiago Martins and Maeda look reasonable)

    Still need a:

    Right back

    Centre half

    Central mid

    Centre forward

    Winger(s)

    …for starters.

As Dom is not a football guy, the assembler will be someone else.

Wee Shaun, wee Strach, outgoing Pete, Dudu Dahan….?

To put it into context England need 240 to win with a minimum of 58 overs and 10 wickets remaining.

I know you’d want to know that 😉

ZIGGYDOC1 – Scott McIntyre has a record of calling it straight and was an up and coming fitba’ broadcaster in Oz until he tweeted about the “cultification of an imperialist invasion” over the Anzac celebrations – he got on the wrong side of the Oz military mob.

    https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/media/lawyer-blasts-hypocrites-as-scott-mcintyre-settles-his-unfair-dismissal-case-with-sbs/news-story/1d3cb9e2906b3de4b44329ebae298368

I was sad to see him leave Oz as he made a lot of sense talking about the game. Agree, a strong endorsement.

Hopefully, he knows what he’s talking about on the football front.

Oz seems a far different place, since I first went there in 1990. Far more liberal and multicultured, to the passing tourist anyway.

  16. ERNIE LYNCH on 6TH JUNE 2021 2:50 PM

True. For the record I’m, ahem of the older generation myself. I’m of the generation that were involved in a full scale riot at Hampden, seen CS gas being used at Easter road and had a campaign that ousted a previous malfunctioning board. Different breed of Celtic fan indeed.

    UNCLE JIMMY –

    Tom

Losing the league, by 25 points, whilst failing to lay a glove on the eventual champions is a million light years away from “the Celtic Jersey doesn’t shrink to fit inferior players”

    —————————————

That comparison doesn’t hold up. It was largely the same players who won a quadruple treble. Nowhere in “We don’t car if we win lose or draw” does it say “except when we play shit and lose”.

Incredible situation where we could have a miraculous season winning the league , a brilliant season getting champions league or a disappointing season finishing third , all in the space of 90 mins , COYGIG and for one time only come on the huns , :)

I go for a leak, then to the fridge for another beer, come back and Burns is gone for 25.

    I’ll try that again shortly.

  20. Good luck to Celtic FC Women at 16.10 versus Motherwell. Eleven wins and a draw from their last twelve games. Pity Neil Lennon couldn’t have achieved that with the Men’s team. Unlikely, though possible, to win the League, but took it to the wire, and a win today puts them in the Champions League next season.

Well done Fran Alonso and the Ghirls!

Thats not good news, first time I’ve heard that. Was just about to switch over to the BBC site

  22. Stop press : Anglicisation of Celtic on hold as Angelisation gets the thumbs up. But the Anglos won’t give up without a fight.

In the absence of a credible SFA, the FA is equally rotten, UEFA makes its global entrance to process the application. Our man needs their green light. The Swiss Calvinists in Central Europe are ably serviced in their protagonism by Andrew of Roxburgh and Gordon Le Smit. The growing pundit army is also actively engaged in anti football manouevres. Backs to the wall time again like with Fergus McCann & the late great Josef Venglos
