Avoiding bad Fortune

789

I read our treble-winning captain, Tom Boyd, in the Herald advising Celtic to retain players who want away or decline to sign new contracts, until after their Champions League qualification ties, an idea we discussed some time ago.  Tellingly he added, “They will see when they go down south it’s not always as bright down there as they think it will be”, perhaps a reference to his time in the Chelsea defence.

There is unlikely to be much difference in value achieved between selling before or after the qualifiers, so as long as the players stay on-side with Neil Lennon and the club, there will be no reason to sell before then.

Recruiting is a different matter.  Celtic will want players in as soon as possible but with all in-demand talent, selling clubs have little reason to cash-in before the business end of August.  For me, there are some on the list we are currently linked with (I’m trying to avoid stepping onto the speculation train as long as possible) who I’ll be happy to see sign elsewhere.  Half the battle in transfer windows is to avoid the bad Fortune of splurging money on players who don’t work out.

No need for cheap shots – Your above that M8 :)

As I told you last week – your one of these Celtic fans

who has been brainwashed into thinking that the garden

    is rosy – it’s not.

Broony has been wi us for 5 years – 3 and a half of those have been spent on the

    Shaun Maloney treatment table.

How many clubs have made bids for him in those 5 years ?

    Hail Hail

Kayal did indeed get (rightly) subbed at HT in that match, his first half performance was nothing less than shocking.

Yes he got his improved contract shortly after but this has been the turning point in his Celtic career.

Would like to think he can get back to he player he was but I hae ma doots.

  5. Been oot and reading back. Find it odd, to say the very least, that on a day when we have been informed by wee Lottie of the probable nefarious dealings between a team that used to play in Govan and players/managers of other teams, “aff oot” in person keeps bigging up players who are way past their best. Let’s concentrate on what really matters at the moment: the deady bears and their malpractice.

I agree. Lots of people are battle-fatigued by the whole thing, but I think it’s very important to keep showing up how shabby their whole set-up was.

At the very least, we might make them think twice before trying to get away with this stuff again.

There was an enquiry and it cleared The Rangers. The way the enquiry was conducted was highly suspicious in many ways but the SPL not Celtic commissioned it.

Interestingly I have seen no confirmation that the SPL have endorsed or accepted LNS findings which I think have unforeseen consequences for player registration rules that should require a rewrite to take account of Bryson evidence. It is unclear how far a national association can deviate from UEFA/FIFA rules and what either body will make of the Bryson interpretation if it is written into the SFA rules.

Additionally there is no claim if ebts as used by Rangers are legal. That makes them regular payments which is how LNS treated them, presumably under direction.

However if the UTT finds for HMRC this makes the payments irregular and that decision will be a game changer in terms of any compensation argument.

Even if Celtic are reluctant to pursue there is nothing to stop shareholders putting forward a motion to pursue that at the very least will ellicit a response from the club explaining any reluctance to do so.

The questioner was quite right to ask the question as there is an issue there that requires sorting but Im not sure if all the factors I have just covered came out in any response.

If the UTT finds for HMRC what we have witnessed so far is but the phoney war before the blitzkrieg in 1940.

Broonie, like many, has taken time to get to the real potential, he had a terrible loss to overcome as well remember m8.

Enjoy what he brings to this Celtic team and it is considerable IMO.

I understand your initial point but I don’t think Kevin Thompson is anywhere near Broonie now, he made bad choices, aint we all and not every partnership is like McNamara and Donnelly.

Re my “singing from a different hymn-sheet” comment,I specifically exclude you from that.

You are definitely singing from the same hymn-sheet,the very same one as you have been using all the time you have been on here.

As no amount of argument and reason contrary to your own ever allows itself to pervade your thought process I hereby withdraw from the discussion.

Please continue to live in your bellicose single-track world if you so wish. Heaven knows,we tried….

Cheers for that. I got info from Tsfm. Perhaps I read it wrong or it was wrong.

Makes a bit of a difference to the level of suspicion but does not negate Barcabhoys point about a clarifying statement.

I agree. Brown had the loss of his sister to deal with and the change of clubs from Hibs to Celtic which is a huge move. Centre midfield is the hardest position on the pitch and he has grown into it. The goal at Ibrox and the celebration goading Diouf won a lot of fans over. he has been immense when fit the last two years and I haven’t always been his biggest fan. he is the club captain and if he stays injury free we will win more trophies than this season next season. Excellent in Europe too.

Brown has won me over and hope he stays for a good few years yet. Not sure we have seen the best of him yet.

Make no mistake, When Walter left Ibrox for Goodison– by sheer chance Wee Dick did not have his problems to seek especially with the Jambos who gubbed them in the cup and the very first day of the season after that.

Ever so strangely, what was a good Hearts team was broken up with all the transfered players strangely ending up at Ibrox or Everton.

One former hearts player arrived at Ibrox, never got a game for the first team or the reserves and was sold on to Southampton just 10 weeks later.

I have always viewed that as the systematic and deliberate weakening of an opponent on the part of the Murray “Clan”– and over the years I have heard countless stories that Rangers knew exactly what to bid to ensure that those who were in charge of Hearts had to sell!

On Scott Brown– when he had daft Mohican hair cut he stood head to head with his current manager at the age of 17 in a hibs jersey.

Friends of mine preferred Thomson and Whittaker— I liked Brown.

He could play and although a bit unruly he was not going to be intimidated by anyone— and remember Neil Lennon was no soft touch as a player!

Keep your chin up. It just means that progress will be slower than you thought. I had some surgery that resulted in nerve damage. It felt numb for a couple of years but did not affect muscle use. The numbness is almost completely gone now. Patience, bhoy, patience.

But…the flags have all gone – the cups have all gone – the parties have all been had and, the biggest victims in all of this had to sit back and watch it all – knowing fine well that we had been cheated.

But…here’s the thing – who were the biggest cheats ?

The anti / Celtic establishment ? or…The ‘dossier’ holding Celtic PLC bored?

You talk about – rules having to be re-written – that’s not going to bring all the stolen goods back !

We have been shafted because no-one fights oor corner.

We had a govt-minister on oor bored and he said – we’ll no longer sit at the back of the bus !!!

Naw – noo we urny oan the bus !

The toothless tigers of the Celtic bored had an open-goal when Salmond called a summit after the shame-game – we had to attend a summit on the back of having

    3 player booked ?

That was the cue for the Celtic bored to call their own press conference and drag Scotland’s little secret onto the world stage by announcing that they would be attending

    No govt summit.imo

Then Uefa would have had to get involved and – the lid would have been removed from the can of worms.
