Being competitive and disinclined against Bayern

362

History makers on Saturday but Brendan Rodgers and his players will have nothing but tomorrow’s game against Bayern Munich on their minds today. In truth, the 100-year-old 62 game unbeaten run achieved by Willie Maley’s team looked like it was equalled despite minds being focussed on Champions League duty.

While there was no shame in losing 3-0 in Munich two weeks ago, Celtic were poor. It was not until Bayern achieved their objectives Celtic players looked less intimidated. We were unpicked repeatedly in defence while we retreated under the merest pressing from Bayern.

A win tomorrow is not beyond Celtic, but win or lose, we have to learn how to compete against teams of this level. We have endured harsh lessons against Barcelona and PSG over the last 13 months. Progress would not necessarily mean repeating the kind of remarkable 2-1 victory we got over Barcelona five years ago, being competitive in the game and defending with discipline would be a start.

BRENDAN RODGERS – The Road to Paradise is available now from CQNBookstore.com and for the first 100 sold on the bookstore we will include a free gift.

some of the irish lads may correct me, but I think KT translates to ‘dark haired/ descendant of a lord’ ….

not sure what that means, but it seems like it should be important.

If correct and Bayern will be missing some Top players……….are they possibily under estimating the auld Celtic ?

Just a wee thought….I really hope they are !

    ………………………..

When I posted the above earlier I obviously had no idea IF Muller and Lewondenski were in fact injured and left in Munich ?

According to STV tonight…Bayern are claiming that Lewondski COULD have at least travelled to Celtic Park…but with Bayern looking ahead to their weekend game v Borussia D…they left Big Rab at home.

PERHAPS….just feckin maybe this Bayern mob are indeed a wee tad over confident about ONLY playing The Celts ?

They are of course perfectly entitled to play who they wish….but now I really wonder after hearing that news tonight about Lewon Lew//////Big Rab ?

    Go get ’em Celts !

  6. CORKCELT. You sat at the big table in the Blane Valley the last time you were over, It’s the big table next to the Bar, Big Jimmy is thinking of the table he sat at the last meet up,The round table near the toilet is a big table but the one at the bar holds 12 people and it can be added too. good news re KT, pity they haven’t included LG in contract extensions + a few others.

  9. I first heard of Bob Dylan while watching footage of the March on Washington when he sang “When My Ship Comes In” and “Only a Pawn in the Game” at the Lincoln Memorial. However, it was Peter, Paul and Mary singing “Blowing in the Wind” that grabbed my mother’s attention, she enthused about this for a long time,

Fast forward a year and John Lennon is raving about him, with that in mind I set out to find a bit more of Mr. Zimmerman. At that time I was attending Stow College and would wander intae Littlewoods and Lewis’s tae peruse the LPs there at dinner time. The former actually had a really good selection, but Lewis’s had a booth where you could go intae and listen tae records prior tae buying them.

It was in there that I first heard “Don’t Think Twice its Alright” fae the Freewheelin album. I was bitten right away and would spend many a happy hour or so in my bedroom listening tae the likes of “where the wind grows heavy on the border town” and “me and my gal and my gal’s son we got met with a tear gas bomb don’t even know why we come goin’ back where we come from”. Explosive stuff for a wee bhoy fae the Bonnie Bonnie Banks.

Having an obsessive personality I bought all his albums right up to “Highway 61 Revisited” and saw him up the toon 18 months later.

My tastes started tae change and I moved on, nae merr Dylan albums although I still liked him. Then one Saturday when up shopping with my brother in Partick at a store similar tae Esquires that sold made tae measure shirts I heard “hello darkness my old friend”, so “Blonde on Blonde” an absolutely superb album was ditched for “Sound of Silence”, followed by the equally superb Pet Sounds, by this time I’m riding around the Bonnie Banks on a Lambretta as if I was on the Pacific Highway 1.

Still like Bob though and have a dvd of “Freewheelin” and “Beatles for Sale” that often gets played in the car when I’m alone.

My favourite album is “Bringing it all Back Home” and single “Positively 4th Street”, fantastic lyrics, “I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes you’d know what a drag it is to see you”. Genuis!!!, I came in fae the big Yogi 2 penalty cup final goals absolutely euphoric tae find my mother had bought it for me.

  13. Re Irish origins ?

It turns out that my surname is Norsk/Norman/French and wait for it……German !

My descendants apparently settled in Galway and Mayo in the 12th century….and were known as one of “The Galway Tribes”.

Maybe I was a Irish/French/German Bayern Munich fan in years gone by ?

Now that would explain a lot.

  14. Great news on KT. He will be a Celtic legend. Of that I have no doubt.

Already played 97 first team games and still only 20 years old.

He’s a cert for club captain when Scott Brown hangs up his boots.

    Great great news.

I hope he gets license to push on tomorrow night. We need to work their wingers defensively and keep them from coming at us again for the bulk of the match.

  15. DELANEYS DUNKY.

In my younger days at the time of meeting my 1st wife in 1972…i was right into T Rex…and never gave Dylan a second thought before then.

She then educated me about Dylan and his music some time later after we got wed.

I was the same with the Eagles back then…..it was only years later I began to really listen to those boys.

A couple of pals have suggested that I get another puppy as soon after Derry as possible … probably good advice … I’m no good unless I have someone to look after ….although, this past year, Derry looked after me, more than the other way ’round. Although I will have my turn to look after her for (hopefully) the next few months.

so, was just talking to the breeder where I got Derry 11 years ago, and just saw some photos of the newest litter of golden retriever puppies …

for me, there is nothing cuter in the world than a bunch of golden retriever puppies playing!. warms the heart of even a cynical old lawyer, so they do!

  21. What is the Stars on

    MIT

speaking of cynical old lawyers…reminds me of the story about the lawyer doing a deal with the devil.

The devil offers all the worldly possessions you could wish for in a lifetime. In return he wants the lawyers soul, his wife’s soul, his childrens souls and the souls of the lawyers unborn grandchildren.

So the lawyer looks the devil in the eye and says…ok what’s the catch

Roberts being out is a blessing in disguise. He’s a phenomenal player but a passenger at this level. I genuinely believe we can match them all over the pitch. My biggest worry is set pieces, which is another reason to start Moussa as he defends the front post well. I think Moussa is key, if he can rough up their centre halves it will lift the whole team and the crowd.

    ……….,,,,..,………….

Got to disagree with you. He’s certainly not a passenger at this level. He’s been involved in 6 Champions League matches to date. He roasted Manchester City away, dragged Celtic back into the game in Moenchengladbach almost single handedly and roasted his opponent against Anderlecht. He scored in two of those games. I can’t quite understand we’re you’re coming from to say that he is a passenger in these games.

  23. Mike,
