Blame it on the Celtic

393

It is great having big game players, those who can raise the tempo to match greater challenges, Moussa was a classic of this genre, but watching the first half on Friday, the flip side of that mentality appeared evident.  St Mirren were in a big game, and showed it, Celtic were going through the motions.  I expect normal service to resume for Rosenborg on Thursday, but we better resolve this symptom before travelling to Perth on League Cup duty.

Hearts boss, Ann Budge, must have taken the weekend off to celebrate her team being top of the league, as she has allowed video of sectarian chanting by Hearts fans leaving Fir Park on Saturday to pass without comment.  Never slow to shine a light elsewhere, if she would rather not address this festering feature when things are going so well, you can be sure it is there to stay.

On John McGinn choosing Aston Villa over Celtic………  When he made his decision I wrote that after speaking to both teams, he went to Villa because he wanted to play first team football.  Unlike reports elsewhere, he didn’t move south because Celtic would not meet his wage demands (thinking in particular of Scott McDonald flogging this on Radio Scotland).

The player gave newspaper interviews to several Scottish Sundays confirming, “Playing regularly was the biggest factor in choosing Aston Villa over Celtic, says John McGinn”, as The Herald put it.  But that doesn’t fit the narrative, so will soon be forgotten.

Don’t blame it on the football.
Don’t blame it on the career advice.
Don’t blame it on the reality.
Blame it on the Celtic.  Lots of others do.

What’s the point of Celtic?

Winter is approaching, the time when the Celtic FC Foundation does some of its most important work.  It is also the time of greatest need.  I know the challenge ahead for those who work through the Foundation.  There is enormous poverty in our own communities.

I signed up for the Great Scottish Run, which takes place in Glasgow on 30 September, in aid of the Foundation.  I have not run as far as a Half Marathon in over a year, I ran a few miles short on Saturday before giving up.  But I know what those who will be helped by the Foundation will be like in December. Some things are worth the work.

We need to do something, otherwise what’s the point of Celtic?  We both know it’s not just about football.  Work on the big winter projects is already underway, if you can help by sponsoring me, please do so here.

Thank you.

  1. It takes the deliberate, sleekit connivance of a wee hun to allow Shorties Stoneface story airtime………….

The perspective it betrays is so well-known among our fans that few of us are surprised.

If the story had been about integrity in the game the quite rightly the villain of the piece would have been the horrible teddies and their bent mission in scotland to make up the rules to suit them alone.

That boolin’ klub balloon has no shame but he is helped all the way by pals in Shortie.

  2. James McFadden obviously must of had a lobotomy when he got that wee rat tail cut off. An SFA apologist with a distinct lack of brain cells.

    Let me get this right.

I prefer to believe the Celtic version which you believe makes me gullible but you being more discerning prefer to believe, anybody else but Celtic?

I think you use the John McGinn saga ‘regardless of all of our ignorance’ as just another unputdownable stick with which to beat Celtic.

Personally, I reckon he wasn’t worth whatever Celtic were asked to pay, given the factual Aston Villa paid fee.

  4. Philbhoy I think the usual petty attacks are getting a wee bit tired.

I think Paul is choosing. His McGinn quotes very carefully to justify his own position but mostly peters position.

Like I said yesterday. Brendan said he wanted him. Lawwell screwed it up. It should have been sorted long before villa came into the picture.

  5. Probably heard this one before….

    BSR,

you start promisingly with “let me get this right” then wander into trying to justify the made up claptrap that you prefer to believe, I asked you to think on some simple questions about the source of the information you choose to believe all of which reflect the dubious nature of your source therefore your chosen beliefs are grounded in made up pish.

Your source of information told us the asking price for McGinn was £4M yet he was sold for little over 3. Your source of info told us that if Hibs did not accept the offered price below the 3 then we would get him for nothing. Since then your source has continually tried to dismiss the potential of the player as insignificant even though the manager and club captain rate him highly, both of their estimates I value to be a much better judge than any CEO or blogger. You also make the big mistake of considering the CEO as Celtic personified, he is not, I suggest the team manager and club captain better represent Celtic if we are going to personify who is Celtic.

But back to the point believe what you want but when the evidence is stacked up against you expect to be called gullible.

We know of three players within budget in this window the manger selected and the CEO failed to procure. We know the manager was angry enough to go [public with his frustration therefore we can Estimate with high probability that the manager had made his feelings known and was dismissed, the question I have to pose is, was this the first window the managers selections were within budget and the CEO failed to procure as that I expect is more like the reason for the managers frustration. The manager is not being allowed to build a team and the CEO is trying to sell his best players out from under him. We know the CEO has previous for this as its why Neil Lennon left.

The manager being allowed to keep a Boyata after the CEO gave permission to the players agent to find a new club was not supporting the manager it was the CEO undermining the manager. A striker the manager made public his plans for the future, is given permission by the CEO to find another club is not the CEO supporting the manager it is undermining the manager. This is not rocket salad it is simple deduction with respect to who is responsible for permitting agents to find other clubs and negotiating incoming transfers. So yes, gullible I think is a pretty accurate description.

I have a friend who works for Hibs.

He told me they would not sell McGinn to Celtic at any price.

  8. TURKEYBHOY,

I find Big Judith quite scary in an attractive way. Doubt that I could handle her.

  9. Who knows what really goes on during the transfer window. Doubt that many do, other than some on here who think otherwise.

    Philboy,

I’ll leave you to wrestle with that teaser on your own, let us all know if you get there.

  11. Canamalar,

The price Hibs quoted was £ 4 million.Lenny even commented on itbsaying he was not overpriced.

If yourself and the rest of the fans believe that PL should have sanctioned that money, thats a different story, but you would not have many agreeing with you.

    Ron..,

    simple few questions

Who is the appropriate person to give a players agent permission to find another club?

Do you believe BR gave permission for players agents permission to find other clubs?

Who is responsible to close the deal on incoming players?

Do you believe the players BR selected were within budget?

  15. CANAMALAR

Too old to wrestle anything now.

Why should my mate tell a lie?

    OF COURSE THEY DON’T!

Can’t be 100% certain but it appears that a number of posters have voluntarily subjected themselves to the output of George Peat, Kenny McIntyre and James McFadden.

I’ll say a prayer for you tonight.

    D. :)

  19. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Turkeybhoy,

You’ll have evidence that the price quoted was £4M and that that was not just a made up paper talk thrown at Neil Lennon to suggest the guess was the actual price, heres the gist, if £4M was the asking price then AV got a great discount and I’m no accepting that.

It was a bartering game and AV did not play stupid hardball they negotiated.

  20. Are you suggesting agents are sitting around waiting on clubs to say to them find another club for your man????

    Hohohohohohoho!

Well it’ll be Christmas or Xmas soon enough I suppose.

  21. Paul67 et al

    I see that on the JohnJames site he claims that;

“There is nothing in the final draft (of the 5Way Agreement) which gives any undertakings to transfer tiltles to Charles Green”.

Now, I have somewhere, two earlier versions of the 5WA which do mention titles but have never seen the final version, although apparently it is out there in the ether, along with Rangers FC. Anyone in a position to corroborate? His conclusion, which is new to me, is that the SFA and the SP(F)l cooked up the continuation myth themselves, (ie did not just accept it or recognise it), which if true renders both organisations not only complicit but corrupt, beyond our ken.

  22. Anyway, off to watch Southampton and Armstrong, even though he cant get a game.Bye the way,PL sold him for £3 million, but told us all it was 7 million.

    EH!!!!!!!.
