Blame it on the Celtic

393

It is great having big game players, those who can raise the tempo to match greater challenges, Moussa was a classic of this genre, but watching the first half on Friday, the flip side of that mentality appeared evident.  St Mirren were in a big game, and showed it, Celtic were going through the motions.  I expect normal service to resume for Rosenborg on Thursday, but we better resolve this symptom before travelling to Perth on League Cup duty.

Hearts boss, Ann Budge, must have taken the weekend off to celebrate her team being top of the league, as she has allowed video of sectarian chanting by Hearts fans leaving Fir Park on Saturday to pass without comment.  Never slow to shine a light elsewhere, if she would rather not address this festering feature when things are going so well, you can be sure it is there to stay.

On John McGinn choosing Aston Villa over Celtic………  When he made his decision I wrote that after speaking to both teams, he went to Villa because he wanted to play first team football.  Unlike reports elsewhere, he didn’t move south because Celtic would not meet his wage demands (thinking in particular of Scott McDonald flogging this on Radio Scotland).

The player gave newspaper interviews to several Scottish Sundays confirming, “Playing regularly was the biggest factor in choosing Aston Villa over Celtic, says John McGinn”, as The Herald put it.  But that doesn’t fit the narrative, so will soon be forgotten.

Don’t blame it on the football.
Don’t blame it on the career advice.
Don’t blame it on the reality.
Blame it on the Celtic.  Lots of others do.

What’s the point of Celtic?

Winter is approaching, the time when the Celtic FC Foundation does some of its most important work.  It is also the time of greatest need.  I know the challenge ahead for those who work through the Foundation.  There is enormous poverty in our own communities.

I signed up for the Great Scottish Run, which takes place in Glasgow on 30 September, in aid of the Foundation.  I have not run as far as a Half Marathon in over a year, I ran a few miles short on Saturday before giving up.  But I know what those who will be helped by the Foundation will be like in December. Some things are worth the work.

We need to do something, otherwise what’s the point of Celtic?  We both know it’s not just about football.  Work on the big winter projects is already underway, if you can help by sponsoring me, please do so here.

Thank you.

  2. Here we go again .mcginn. mcginn has gone , he made his choice of club to sign for .

Imho there are other midfielders out there ,better than him , If our suits want to invest in strengthening the team , and anyone who feels mcginn would be a replacement for our captain marvel , is clearly away with it .

On the McGinn failed transfer, perhaps someone will correct me if my memory is wrong but I remember P67 quoted a price tag of £4M I had not previously seen that asking price published elsewhere, where did that price come from?

P67 also identified the strategy that if Hibs did not like the hardball tactics of the CEO then all we needed to do was sit and wait and the boy would sign for free, where did this info come from ?

I smell bullshit and complacency which was too easily accepted and disseminated by P67

‘ Celtic fans pure dead ragin, that their club has £27M in the back pooch ‘

No one is blaming Celtic that is another example of the esteem the CEO is held by P67, the CEO is not Celtic but a servant nothing more, to try an say anything else is elevating him beyond his place. The club captain and manager wanted the boy in a Celtic strip and the CEO did not share their enthusiasm or estimation of potential.

  6. Based on what is presently known (ER’s role, Celtic’s silence… refusal to comment in any substantive way on 5WA, LNS, failure to seek judicial review of them… etc.), If I were charged with convincing a jury on a balance of probability that Celtic had colluded, I would have no doubt that that is a case I – in fact, any first year lawyer – would win more than I would lose

Personally, I look at the evidence (even failure to do something), and I go with what the evidence supports …. and, in this case, there is a pretty compelling, albeit circumstantial, case for collusion… so far, it is the theory that best fits most of the evidence ….

and if Celtic has evidence to show they didn’t, they have yet to adduce that evidence, and they have had ample time to do so, and no compelling legal or other reason why they would not have brought that evidence forth, had they had it.

The system doesnt always get to the truth (OJ getting jailed for stealing his own stuff, but not for murder!)…. and, it may be that Celtic may not actually be guilty… but If they arent guilty, they have done a damn good job at making themselves look guilty.

and the more they try to ignore it, the more guilty they appear.

  7. `… and no compelling legal or other reason why they would not have brought that evidence forth, `…that we are aware of.

It is POSSIBLE that to bring that evidence forward now would harm/destroy their plan.

Of course not … and no one has ever suggested that, … but they should deal with major ones. And things like the 5WA and LNS were and are major stories …

even this season, if we aren’t seen to stand up to obvious double-standards when it comes to decisions, they are only going to get worse…

  9. MIT

    Thanks for your polite reply.

Who would decide when a “story” was major?

You, me, NEGANON2, or someone at the club?

  10. Hot Smoked….

of course it is POSSIBLE, …

and it is also POSSIBLE that every mistake in Scottish football have been ‘honest mistakes’and that thing will even themselves out in the end….

but neither POSSIBILITY is very realistic.

What fraction, or what proportion of the worldwide Celtic support ‘appear’ to let Celtic’s non public condemnation of Rainjurz cheating, influence their every utterance on the internet?

That is the Club’s job (at first blush) … and someone already is deciding that … whether is it DD, PL, legal, PR, or some combination thereof …

it is just that, in my opinion, they are not doing a very good job of it … in the last decade, (when we were fighting a corpse), I struggle to think of one issue that Celtic didn’t get the short end of the stick on.

.. but, if the people who pay the club to handle these matters (shareholders, and supporters, both of whom provide financing to the club) dont feel the club is doing a good job of it, then those people should be able to have some input into the matter..

and, right now, that does not seem to be the case …

  13. BSR …

not sure I understand your question … but I will answer what I think you are asking… if I have misunderstood, let me know … fair enough?

I agree that few fans seem to know, and even on CQN (where fans are more educated), few really seem to care (as long as we are winning … which is what the Board, I beileve, had planned for all along).

but, if fans were more educated/informed about what was really going on, I(and that should have come from Celtic), I think more would care (I believe in the innate goodness of most – not all – Celtic fans … I think that is why most of us gravitated to Celtic … )

If the Club told the fans what was going on, and took a stand, I think most Celtic fans would have rallied behind them, and back the club, even if the club didn’t solve everything …

but Celtic didn’t put the case forward … didn’t tell fans what was going on … had they done so, I think more fans would have demanded action …

  14. sometimes I am not sure of my role on CQN … is it Martin Luther, Johann von Staupitz or Johan Eck?

  15. MIKE IN TORONTO. hi mike stop talking such blooming sense. lol. any way mike will post a pic of the puppy later.hh.

  16. Philbhoy ….

I was going to throw Johan Mjallby in there (just to see if anyone actually pays attention to what I post)

    :)

  17. did posting Luther”s name on a Celtic site break the blog? I thought we were a club open to all….

or did I just bore everyone to sleep?

  18. Resolution 12 is a, long winded, soul sucking, savaged by a dead sheep, masonic chinese puzzle that will never bear fruit because yooz are playing by ‘their’ rules!

Empty the park and reconstruct the club by dismantling the PLC Fergus McCann construction that is designed to keep Celtic supporters on the outside, looking in, ask BRTH.

That awkward moment, when big Ollie realizes that he’s not at a big CL club!

    Anywye….

I have reconsidered … I want Neganon in charge … if nothing else, it would be fun!!!!

Hard to argue with most of that …

but, while it seems they are all asleep, any way we can assume control of CQN? You any good with the tech stuff… hacking in and taking over CQN?
