Blood on the brogues

1366

The resignation of Charles Green from his post as Rangers International chief executive last month was more curious for what it wasn’t – a resignation from the board.  Green retained his position as a director of the club.  This was always likely to have consequences.

BBC report this morning that club chairman, Malcolm Murray, who media outlets loyal to Green reported innuendo against earlier this year, in what was viewed as an attempt to discredit and ultimately remove him, yesterday lost a vote of confidence at a board meeting.

I am certain the vote of confidence was called by Murray himself after he informed the board, including Charles Green, of how he intends to deal with the important matters surrounding the club at this time.  In particular, what he plans to do with information received from Pinsent Masons and forensic accountants from Deloitte.  The investigation underway by Pinsents and Deloittes is only taking place at the insistence of Murray.

The innuendo against Murray was inappropriate and part of a dirty tricks campaign against the man by those who do not have Rangers best interests at heart [the irony is searing].  The normal reaction to losing a vote of confidence is to resign and let your opponents deal with the consequences of their actions.  Murray may feel he has done all he can for the club (or company, if that is how some would like to start calling the entity now). Those who invested in Craig Whyte’s various claims last month will enormously encouraged.

On Friday I’ll be joined by Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and Paul McConville at the Columba Club, Blantyre, for what is certain to be an enjoyable Question and Answer event.  Tickets, £5 each, for the Columba Charitable Fund, are available at the door.  I’m really looking forward to it.  See you there.

  1. Paul67,

    “Blood on the brogues”

It will go down in history as one of the finest Titles, IMO of course. ;)

I should be able to make the Friday night gig as well, as it will surely be pure deidco brilliant with such an all star lineup. Pay at the gate wise? I hope the venue is massive.

Many Happy returns to our very knowledgable Polish friend. I don’t think they do gifts on such a day, “howevah”….. I think gifts are given on the day of their name, so if it is St Stephen’s day, people called Stephen are given gifts, at least I think that was what my Good Polish friend in work was saying, back in the day.

    Zbyszek?

One of the finest ever Essential mixes, the first 30 minutes only so follow links to get the rest and be thankful. ;)

  2. A stor mo chroi – WW2 and Winston Churchill. The men pardoned deserted their national army during WW2. The Free State was under huge threat of invasion. Why should these men be pardoned ? They behaved recklessly and betrayed their people.

Busy. Busy. Busy. Spending more time in the boardroom these days than in my own office – I remember when I used to get Bank Holidays off.

Malcolm Murray was saying as much – I didn’t have the heart to tell him he would have the rest of the week to catch the sun.

First item on the agenda was the bad news that none of us had won the Lottery over the weekend! Always best to start with a gag before people start shouting the odds.

Our press guy Jim Traynor beat Ally in the Donut Challenge on Saturday, shortly after he took all the credit for banning our good friends at BBC Scotland at the weekend … after we checked it would not affect revenue, of course.

Anyway, turns out it’s one of Craig’s old tricks and we know it will not do us any harm. And just to prove there are no hard feelings we’ve already had a call from Pacific Quay wanting to know if the BBC can cover as many of our games as possible next season – despite the ban.

Of course they can. I still think we should ban Channel 4.

I met former England international Mark Hateley on Saturday evening. He said: “Banning the BBC is like a new signing.” I have no idea what he was talking about.

    Finally broke the brogues in.

If we are compiling a list of acts for the Neo-Govanites, may I suggest that great American songwriter of the 20th Century,

    Broguey Carmichael.

Would I be correct that although Malcolm Murray is no longer chairman at Ibrox like Charles Green he is still on the board ? H.H.

Johnny Clash – Mo Bangura won it.

In fact just to prove it was no fluke he did it again, with the other foot.

He then had to be escorted off the premises, like a hustler in ole Las Vegas.

  8. zbyszek.

I noticed that it was your birthday today. I would like to wish you all the best. Happy Birthday.

    Paul67

I noticed that it was Paul67 birthday on Saturday, I also wish you a Happy Birthday, also.

  9. DBBIA

Apparently ole Mo also bagged a hat-trick in a ‘beat the goalie’ competition at the Celtic Park family fun day yesterday.

Looking forward to see what he can do in the Champions League qualifiers.

  10. I believe Paul67 was thinking of Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks album. It features:

Tangled Up in Blue; Simple Twist of Fate; You’re a Big Girl Now; Idiot Wind; You’re gonna make me lonesome when you go; Meet me in the morning; Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts; If You See Her, Say Hello; Shelter from the Storm; Buckets of Rain.

Any suggestions for the follow-up Blood on the Brogues album? Tangled Up in Blue is obviously included. And possibly If You See Craigie, Say Hello Hello.

That is a pity as I am sure a lot more will go there, and possibly be disappointed.

The wee man also has a wee injury at the moment, him seeing you will hopefully inspire him further. I don’t mean that in a bad way, by the way.

I’ll be driving but if there is a Bar, I’ll be buying you a wee drink or two, that terrible person CRC never let me buy him a drink last week. Truth be told, it was one of the things I really wanted to do because crc is one of the best guys you could ever meet, it is not that hard to work that out.

Did they change the format slightly. Instead of paying to take a shot against a Celtic keeper you paid to try and stop Mo scoring. Maybe not, the prize fund would be too high.

  13. A Stor Mo Chroi on

    An Dun:

Ireland was not under threat of invasion from Germany nor the UK.

There was an Operation Green project from Germany for the invasion of Ireland but that was one big joke. There was the threat of invasion by the UK over the rights to the Treaty Ports (sic) but it never happened because even the arrogance of Churchill knew the cost to the reputation of Britain would be too much. If not so why did the UK not invade and mitigate the Atlantic war?

Why did de Valera decline the offer from Germany of all captured Allied weapons being given to Eire ‘gratis’ when Britain would extend a slingshot?

Ireland was never in threat of invasion by the U.K. or Germany.(at that particular time)

But that does not excuse the behaviour of de Valera and his government on their behaviour toward both the IRA at home, and those who chose to fight the fascists with their god given blood and right to be a man and exercise their chose.

And do you really believe that Ireland was neutral during the Second World War?

Do you really? Do you really know what Ireland actually did in the Second World War to favour the Brits?

  14. Peter

Bar will be fully stocked, already asked bar staff to get plenty of Peroni in fridge for Vogue punter…

  15. From a facebook pal of mine..

Actually, I was at a thing on Saturday and there were three Sevconians there, just back from the game. I said nothing, maintaining a serene smile throughout. I knew they’d break with the “what team do you support” rubbish, and they did in the end. I just said, “I, like you, have no interest in football.”

  16. DBBIA 12.21- Lol- he hit the bar all the time in bounce games, normally from 4 yards.

Sheik Yerbouti- I think we can discount BFDJ and Dee-el as they could not pronounce “promissory notes” far less understand them.
