Bring it on, Celtic

Icelandic champions, you say?  Not much to worry about there, you would hope.  But Stjarnan knocked Lech Poznan out of Europe last season, and Poznan went on to take the Polish league from our old pals Legia Warsaw, who were a pretty decent team last season.

Stjarnan were not nearly as good as Lech Poznan, nor were they as good as Motherwell, who they also put out of Europe a year ago, but get your close-season wrong (the Polish Ekstraklasa doesn’t break until June), and you’re out, no matter if it’s Stjarnan or Maribor on the match ticket.

Let me put it another way, I wouldn’t fancy St Johnstone against Stjarnan right now, and Saints won at Celtic Park as recently as March.  A red card in the wrong place (need I remind you of Efe, big Dan?) and you’re in trouble.

I’ve not seen the new livery on Celtic Park, the photos of which look superb, so I’ll be along early tonight to drink in the summer atmosphere.  There’s also the anticipation of looking forward to seeing a few new faces in competitive action for Celtic for the first time.

The most important performance of tonight will be from Dedryck Boyata.  More than any other area of the team, defence is all about partnerships, so how quickly Dedryck fills the Jason Denayer gap will go a long way to determining whether Celtic qualify for the Champions League group stage this season.

Remember to swap out your old season ticket from your wallet with your NEW ticket!

Bring it on, Celtic.

  1. Looking forward to the game tonight, my nephew has now got a season ticket and will be joining us.

I would like to to see Mikael Lustig along with Boyata at centre back tonight, I think he would be more calm than Efe or Charlie.

If anyone is looking to watch the game tonight in Benalmadena I would recommend John Lemons in Av, De, Bonanza. I watch the Den Bosch and Dukla Prague, great wee bar and excellent atmosphere – Host(Paul)and Hostess( Angie) both wearing the Hoops.

  2. And as for the rest of you, keep the updates coming tonight. Please.

    No wifi, so no streaming.

Relying on the blog for updates.

  3. I’m really looking forward to the game even though I can’t be there due to work commitments.

Hoping for an early goal to calm the nerves (mine not the players).

    3-0 to the Hoops.

All you have to do is ask yourself how many progs have you EVER seen about the masons on the TV.

*saw a few over here but nothing in them that you don’t already know other than they are super duper guys that just want to help their fellow man. a bit like Dan Brown’s the “Lost Symbol”, i.e. they’re the good guys in this life.

Hoopybhoy, I’m a big fan of kodi but live sports can be hit and miss. Sports devil seems the best option though. Mostly movies and TV shows for me through Genesis add-on. SD seems to have the game tonight if you’re stuck. Hail Hail

  15. Proudbhoy,

VPN- virtual private network – also means nothing

What it does – connects your computer to the interweb through a server (interweb connecting machine) in another country, so anyone looking at where your connected from can only see the server in the other country so don’t pick Scotland or England ffs :)

  19. Paradise looking like heaven on the news there ,even wee Bobby Petta still looked as youthful as he did when he played for us.Yip there’s something special in the air tonight when Celtic play hoping for a win that will see us through.Thought there manager looked like Benny from Abba which was rather disturbing

  20. Good luck to the team and debutants tonight. I’m still scunnered that we are required to play these games so early in the season. They are vitally important and yet fraught with risk as the team is going through pre -season while opponents have already got their season underway. Also affects the teams domestic due to extra games and longer season (mentally and physically) . Its just not right!

Hope PL is at least trying to lobby for change.

  21. Disappointed the bhoy Fisher is not playing thought he looked fitter than Lustig.

Surprised the Griff is not in there especially when we could be without ciftci for quite a few games when the domestic season starts

  22. Good strong team. It was always going to be between Ciftci and Griffiths with the other ten picking themselves. Disappointed Henderson doesn’t even make the bench, we don’t need two defenders on the bench for a game like this, Efe can cover all defensive positions.
