Celtic, or Wales, against the world

597

I read Wales defender Connor Roberts say “99% of the world” will support Denmark in their last 16 tie tomorrow and thought- the underdog, fighting against the crowd.  99% of the world will not support Denmark, not me, for a start, but the ‘us against the world’ narrative is one of my favourites.

As a rallying call, it is surely more effective than the alternative.  Today’s footballer is an immensely well catered for athlete, apart from his 90 minutes on the park and (relatively few) hours on the training field, he will struggle for little.  What does he have to fight against, if not perceived ranks of people wanting him to lose?

Beaten, humiliated in Europe, trophy-less, written-off by many among our own, singled-out by the Government.  Ange Postecoglou will not have to work hard to convince the players is really is them against the world.  This squad really does have plenty to fight against.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Where are you all ? Nobody up yet ? aha just seen you Por Cierto.

Wee wumman round at KFC there, ” is that a Celtic top ?

” Yes darling are you a supporter ”

” No, I don’t know anything about soccer but I love Big Ange and I

love you Scots accents so I’ll probably watch it now ”

    He’s a winner.

  2. Good morning cqn from an overcast but very warm Garngad

Big Jimmy – If lurking let us know you and Rocky bhoy are ok.

MM – good to see you on, love your tales from down under.

I think big Ange will do well, he looks to have that confidence and a bit of arrogance needed to make it in football.

So off to Huntershill with the grandson this morning for his football then onto the Maryhill science centre for more games at 11am, remember those days lads when we would play about 10 games a week, then a 10/21er with your mates that ended up going for about 4 hours.😂😂😂

    G’day David 66

So much love for Celtic here, really is just one big rebel country.

Hope to hear you and big Jimmy meet up soon for plenty beers, I

can sit back and remember my days back in the Gallusgate, a few

beers in Bairds, up to Heilan Jessie, back down to Bar67, the

Emerald Isle, and then down for a wee dance in the Shipbank, it

was actually quite a feat being able to jig with so much grog inside

    me.

Nowadays I just cut out the dancing lol.

    PARK ROAD 67

Been on it since early, was supposed to run the lines for our senior

games today, but got a reprieve, thank god, need to stop now, up early

tomorrow , 9.30 start for our mini roos and then my u17’s take on

Chelsea in a bit of a grudge match.

We beat them up there 2-0 but we’ve no goalie tomorrow, banned after

getting sent off last week, so it’s keep the ba away from our new keeper

    whoever gets the job.

  5. MM – Up the Rebs.

Done all that as well in same pubs only a few years after yersell.

Please keep posting updates of your Club and football teams.

This young grandson of mine is football mad. Every minute of the day he has a ball at his feet. Kick with both feet and as fit as a butchers dug.

Off now have a good day guys.

I’ve worked ,lived, holidayed all over the world, but there’s nowhere

in my opinion can match the Gallusgate for a day on the lash, and I’ve

been in some exotic places let me tell you, I think it’s got something

to do with that Celtic thingy that hits you when you pass the Tolbooth lol.

David 66 saying ” I did all that a few years after you ” how many good

Celtic souls did it before me?

Still remember my wee da telling me to go and count the Celtic buses

parked along the Gallowgate while he had a pint in the Sari Heid.

    ” How many buses son?

” Mullions da, too many tae coont ‘

  9. Having listened to umpteen interviews and press conferences from both Ange and Dom, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Ange is most definitely a Dom McKay appointment. Howe, who he?, was DD’s choice, but, when that fell through I think DMcK had pushed to become the major player in the process to interview and appoint him as manager. PL, to my knowledge, has played no part in this appointment, por cierto

  10. Aye Mick…to get back in oor guid books will cost ye a free return ticket to Melbourne….glad yur back and on form 😂

What a shift you’ve put in, think it would surprise you, how many

Tims world wide do care about your young cuz, and anybody in

the Celtic family having a hard time.

Ask yourself, how many times have you had a tear in your eye

at some of the posts on here.

  15. Sláinte Ange on

I was well impressed with the press conference. Ange said all the things that I expected from him, but Dom was equally impressive . It seems that they have forged a strong bond already that can only be a good sign going forward. Long may that continue.

I also thought Ian Bankier spoke well in the introductory before, quite rightly, taking a back seat and almost falling asleep!

    Onwards and upwards bhoys!

  16. Mick…talking to this community is never a shift…wading through the bullshit trolls is lol…thank you, I sometimes forget we are not just shouting into the void alone on here 👍

the Celtic family who are in trouble , health wise or a.n other just

because there’s no answer to a particular post.

Isn’t it great just having a chat like the auld days on CQN without

Well I had no intention of renewing my ST as this Plc structure operates like a fiefdom and we know who the peasants are, us!

I thought my daughter would renew and go with her pals but no she said going without me was not the same. So this will be what the Plc are hoping for, sentimentality, as a result and reluctantly I renewed. But god knows what I’m buying into😱😵

  28. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Afternoon all.

Just finished watching the media conference.

It was an introductory event and should be seen in that context only?

That said I thought both Ange and Dom handled it well.

    Key takeaways for me.

I don’t know if Ange will succeed but he clearly has a personality and an approach.

Dom and Ange came across as a team.

Best of all (IMHO) when Dom was asked about his role he mentioned three things

    – the football

    – the business

    – engagement

Third of these is significant. Indicative that he plans to give appropriate time and energy to reconnecting with fans.

    Small, but positive, steps.

I’ve already tempered my expectations for Europe this season.

The new manager can’t do much tactically in four weeks.

If he can deliver some small improvement in fitness and attitude in the short term I’ll settle for that.

    Hail hail
