  1. Who will we face in the next round? I am fairly confident that Astana were the toughest nut to crack in the Chamions Route so hopefully we will find it easier against our next opponenets. Her’s my thoughts on them:

Dinamo Zagreb (CRO) 25.775: Croation teams are reasonable in terms of their technical ability and although this team beat Molde on away goals (4-4) and Arsenal in the Group Stage last year (that seems to be a freak result). They shipped 3 goals against Vardar from Macedonia (5-3) and beat Tiblisi 3-0 on aggregate. I think we will have enough over 2 legs to come up with a decent result.

Ludogorets Razgrad (BUL) 25.625: the Bulgarians had a few decent results over the last few years in Europe, but changes last season saw them eliminated in the CL qualifying by a Moldovan Team. They scored a few goals in the 2nd Qualifying Round (5-0 on aggregate) and beat Red Star 6-4 on aggregate in extra time after two 2-2 draws. Possibly the toughest draw in this sections

FC København (DEN) 24.720: the Danes have slipped in stature much the same was as Celtic have over the last few seasons but have scored 13 goals in their 2 qualifying rounds so far (9 against Crusaders) but they haven’t been tested in these rounds. I think Rodgers will have the team selection and discipline in place to deal with them.

Hapoel Beer-Sheva (ISR) 4.725: the Israeli team have had somewhat of a renaissance in the last few years and appear in the CL for the first time this season. They beat Sherrif from Moldova 3-2 in the 2nd Qualifying round, shipping 2 goals at home and Olympiacos 1-0 in the 3rd Qualifying round. These results don’t show them as being any great shakes so there doesn’t seem to be much to fear there.

Dundalk (IRL) 2.590: Dundalk produced the result of the round in the 3rd Qualifying stage with a 3-1 defeat of Bate Borisov who have been regular contributors to the Group Stages over the last few seasons; this came after an away-goals win (3-3) against FH Hafnarfjördur from Iceland. They definitely punched well above their weight there and I am sure Celtic will have too much for the men from Ireland.

I’d fancy an easier tie against Dundalk or Hapoel Beer-Sheva but happy to beat whoever we are drawn against!

  2. GEORDIE MUNRO

There’s two routes in the qualifiers. Champions route, league champions of lowly ranked countries, 5 go through to group stage, and Non Champions route, second, third and fourth placed teams from higher ranked countries, again 5 go through to group stage

  3. Davidopoulos

Johansen needs de-Ronnied and Brendanised, then he might start looking like a POTY again.

Spot on – like a good entrepreneur – it was all about waiting for the gap in the market. Then gie it laldy!

  6. T 20- Great stuff, going over in a couple of weeks, will go and see Michael and the bhoys

  7. Did anyone notice how Dembele delayed his penalty even after the referee blew for him to take it. That composure is hard to teach but others in the team could learn from these small things.

    Árd Macha

  8. So Scott Sinclair is expected to sign before Monday’s deadline.

I wouldn’t have him starting in the play-offs even if he does sign. I’m hoping we would have a combination of Roberts, Brown, Biton and Johansen fit and ready by then.

Hoping we get Dundalk. Easier travel, good atmosphere and a winnable game.

  9. VFR800A8,

Not forgetting that Dinamo Zagreb are mangaed by Niko Kranjcar’s father, Zlatko Kranjčar. He also played for the Rapid Vienna side that we have a memories of…

    Not forgetting the Mamic brothers

    “yeez were lucky last night”

i replied with “two stonewall pens, they had one shot on target and did i mention we cleared a £million in gate money and we are gauanteed 4 more game ohh and did you see how much we get for yon Champions friendly cup £6million, i will take that all night long”

his shoulders and head were slumped in his chest as he sloped away without reply.

  11. MARRAKESH EXPRESS on 4TH AUGUST

maybe it was because it was a big crowd, and big game, that I expected better. it reminded me at times of the quiet after the third goal in the 6-2 game if you know what I mean. nervous.

however I didn’t expect much against the imps and thought that was a great atmosphere. so maybe down to my expectations.

also I prefer the walk on earlier with the Celtics song finishing at the end of the huddle. walk on is magic but no a patch on a bit of hail hail at kick off to build the atmosphere.
