Just to take my mind off the result, I’m watching Making a Murderer for the 3rd time. I’m totally fascinated by it. The evidence against the entire Manitiwoc Police department is utterly overwhelming. How the preyed on poor uneducated people to save their own skins is unbelievable. I don’t understand why someone with power and authority don’t show this complete sham up for what it is. A judge, DA, Sherriff, detectives and cops all stood to lose their jobs, face and probably money due to a conspired, wrong conviction. It’s all so obvious, if it wasn’t serious it would be laughable. Yet 2 poor guys languish in jail for a murder that was arranged and carried out by law enforcement. Sickens me so much.

I thought I noticed Bodo pressing at times, then collectively, defending from the halfway line, conserving energy. To me this looked like a tactic allowing them to press at intervals throughout the 90 minutes.
We however press for the 90, becoming less effective as the game wears on
David66 on
By the way I do not think they were that good a team.
We let them dictate the tempo of the game and we never pressed as a team.
Too big a gap when pressing as 2 out of our 3 midfielders were caught on the front foot high up the park leaving a big gap to our defenses which they exploited.
If we start properly over there we could be in with a shout.

We however press for the 90, becoming less effective as the game wears on
Its what most teams do these days – they press high and then as energy levels drop they either drop into a low block or press a bit higher. you rarely see teams pressing high for a full half or for most of the game.
We don’t press for 90 minutes, but we do tend to press in the latter stages of the game if we’re ahead. If there is such a thing as Angeball its that we press high in the later stages, and attack with more intensity for longer in the game. We go harder for longer than most teams do. Its why we pick up so many soft tissue injuries
These things don’t just happen – when we sit back after the break its under instructions, if we press high in the last quarter of a game its because the players are told to.
Tonight we were just another team chasing the game at home, it wasn’t a good example of our tactics

Agreed. I know we’ll have to win the league to prove we’re better than Sevco but I think we will and I think we are. The turnaround under Ange has been astonishing but yes, they seem better equipped for European football. We’ll get there though….we’re ahead of schedule :)
We could all come on here and criticise individual players…comparing our players with those we watch regularly.., Hart isn’t Allison; Starfelt isn’t Van Dijk; Calmac isn’t Rodri; Jota isn’t Salah etc etc
I am loathed to critique individual players performances unless I can offer something constructive.
We win and lose as a team. It should be the responsibility of the collective to win games. That means assisting in scoring goals through our build up play, and preventing the loss of goals through our defending as a team.
The latter is an obvious deficiency in our current team.
Look at the goals conceded tonight. In their build up to the first goal, they have the ball wide left (toward our right back). Calmac comes across to assist Juranovic. They quickly play the ball into the centre midfield area, where their player has far too much space (because our no 6 – Calmac – is out of position). Their player then has far too much time to lift his head and pick out his pass. We end up conceding.
Similarly, look at their 3 rd goal. We get drawn out of position defensively as a team. This leaves their scorer free – centrally, at the edge of our box – were he has time to get his shot off. Yes, he got fortunate with the deflection, but he had far too much space in a dangerous area to receive his pass in the first place. Poor positioning defensively from our players.
At any level above SPFL fodder, we need to do a better job as a team at protecting the back 4. We need to defend better as a team.
