  1. Maeda is ripe for a through ball from deep inside our half or from the half way line when a defence is playing high and he can outpace the defenders to it. Playing a through ball to him when he’s in the box surrounded by defenders is not his game. Now and again I’d like to see us play the through ball from deep. He’d score more often in my humble opinion

if the granda needs a haircut, make sure the barbers at the shops down on royston road are turks and not kurds ! the guys up in barmulloch are kurds. He could end up with a v dodgy barnet !

  3. imo the reason we don’t fall into a defensive formation at times is down to not having the quality of defensive players who can defend.

  5. lets all do the huddle on

its not an exact science comparing the financial situations of different countrys leagues obviously

but ive always said scottish football is grossly overpriced in terms of ticket prices

and i think we are as guilty.as the rest

  6. At 1-2 my mind went back to the Copenhagen match at Celtic Park.

At 1-2 this tie was very much alive. To concede so soon after getting back into it is a hard pill to swallow. New players and new managers but we seem to make the same mistakes in Europe.

We’ve a mountain to climb now and I’ll harp on about it again…I wouldn’t be risking key players on a plastic pitch north of the artic circle less than 72 hours before Easter Road.

    Anyway, onwards to Sunday.

  7. I enjoyed tonight because I travel in and meet friends

    Despite that;

McGregor did a Brown for the first time

Jota shat it off the left back

    Rogic and O’Reilly cruised

    That’s why we lost

    Recoverable

imo the reason we don’t fall into a defensive formation at times is down to not having the quality of defensive players who can defend.

even though our manager constantly tells us that his footballing philosophy is about defending as a team?

didnt we fall into a defensive formation in the second half against sevco? and not concede?

  9. they scored 4 against dortmund tonight, but none against us, but we don’t have the quality of defensive players who can defend

Hard to defend as a team when our midfield and forwards are not good at defending. This beginning to sound like a broken record in Europe.

To be honest i had never heard of that team before a few weeks ago,not a happy old man.

I’m taking your point but….it’s harder for any team to get through 11 players to score rather than 8 if three of our team are left chasing shadows in the oppositions half

  12. Most of the pubs are either closed or closing. I’m expecting JHB on shortly educating us all about Celtic in his erudite way after celebrating his own team’s victory in Germany tonight.

    And for that reason….I’m out

  13. Gerry123…I drive posters away?

Whit?…to the airport myself lol…yer posting pash…unless u wanna back that up with anything approaching a source ;-))

  14. A proper DM like VW as our defensive pivot and results like this wouldn’t happen.

RH is a luxury player that we would be able to afford if we had two all action / high energy players beside him — unfortunately we don’t and his spendthrift playing style causes us problems.

The team of 4/5 years ago would have played out from the back and passed them off the park — through the middle not around the edges.

They are by no means great — another 10% of intensity and their confidence would have dissolved.

We played the game they wanted.

Our lack of a realistic final product made it easy for them.

One good cross produced one goal.

30 hit and hopes produced nothing but frustration.

The MO’R cross from the left in the 2nd half was probably the worst of the lot followed by JNF’s attempted pass to GG in injury time — lazy / couldn’t care less dross.

This has been coming — the regular halves of stodge are closer to the norm than the 45 minutes of ecstasy against the TFOD2.1.

“People were a bit harsh at the start in terms of assessing the abilities of our players.

“With defending, you need understanding, you need cohesion and to get to know one another.

“We have prided ourselves on the fact it’s not just about defenders defending, it’s about the whole team defending and it is the same with the ball.

“We ask our centre-backs, Joe Hart and our full-backs to contribute to our build up. They are doing all parts of the game.”

But he would say that wouldn’t he.

The way we sat back against Sevco suggests he’s comfortable with our team defending a lead.

  16. No doubt, a flat performance tonight, but a wee bit of perspective required, nobody on here would have thought we had won the League Cup, and be top of the league in the middle of February. Remember guys only came in weeks ago,and getting used to the league, the training, and settling in.AP looked frustrated after the game, and i think we are only about 40% ,to where he wants to be. The Treble is on,the huns might have another 2 games to contend with, and we are playing on Saturdays, who knows, if we score first next week…….

  17. It’s hard to defend as a team when you play 4-3-3 with wide front men that are not very good defensively, at tracking back to double up with our full backs, and 3 midfielders who would struggle to tackle a fish supper between them.

And our no 6 is really a no 8, but being asked to play no 6 as we have nobody better for that position in the squad.

And we needed a better no 6 tonight. We also needed a better defensive performance, off the ball, from our front 5 (for that is what they are – they’re not in the team for their defensive skills).

Not intended as an personal attack on individual players.

More an question – that maybe we set up the team in such a way, with players who are not especially good as the defensive side of things. Which is required at any decent level.

Maybe Ange got his tactics and formation wrong tonight. You can’t win every game simply by aiming to out score your opponents, when your opponents can score 3 against you.

In the SPFL we can get away with playing 5 forward players plus Calmac.

In Europe, against teams willing and able to go toe-for-toe with us, we will get found out defensively.

We lost, what, 15 goals in 6 EL group games?

    Did we learned anything?

    HH

  18. Next big signing will be a left back and we could do with a proper defensive midfielder, in front of the CBs

  19. O’Reilly, Macgregor, Rogic are not athletic enough against that team

I don’t think Hatate and Turnbull are either.

  20. CALL ME GERRY

And the season before, we lost 19 in 6 EL games, the 3rd worse defensive performance of any team, even the minnows. 34 goals in 12 games, almost 3 a game, same as tonight, so, no, we haven’t learned a thing.

  21. Liverpool were under the gun for 80 minutes away to Inter, and were absolutely pummeled in the second half. Robertson corner, headed goal from Firmino. 1-0. Alexander free kick, header from Virgil to Salah, 2-0. The scousers know how to capitalize on set pieces.

We, on the other hand, do absolutely nothing with corners and free kicks. We gain no advantage from them, regardless of their frequency. In fact, we often start opposition attacks from them.

  23. sceptical citizen on

Ange ball is all that Ange knows.

I remember we used to read all the gushing about his wealth of experience.

Why do you think no team in Europe would employ him, apart from Celtic?

Does Ange know that Celtic are a freak show of a club?

60k crowd, pennies for TV money, a board that throws leagues to keep our bitter rivals viable, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2021, 2022? who knows.

And if you don’t agree to a NDA you won’t get the job?

Is it Celtic, or is it the CIA?

Ange is a puppet get real!

  24. Just watched that back on delay after work – what a strange game.

They out played us at our own game in the opening 10 minutes; it spooked us and we took 30 minutes to recover from the shock.

They did their home work, knew we are largely ineffective with corners and gave them away for fun – we rewarded their diligent preparation by being ineffective from our corners.

We had a freakishly large amount of players having an off game – all the heroes from the hun game were a shadow of themselves.

Bodo were a good side; easily the better side on the night but rode their luck in attack – I think their 3rd goal hit two of our three defenders blocking it, before looping over Hart.

If it had been a single goal deficit and allowing for our players having had a rocket up ’em, I might have fancied us to take it to ET over there but I think this one is lost; considering that they are a good side.

Not happy but moving on to the next game.

  25. Well we are not a Champions League team, and we are not a Europa League team and now it seems we might not be a Conference League either. Playing in the SPFL gives us false expectations, even beating sevco gave us false expectations. Even if sevco continue for a bit in Europe they will take us down to the line and might pip us at the post unless Ange does better in the second halves of games.

We were well beaten by a team whose season has not yet started whereas ours is in its second half. What does that tell you?

Sevco beat a top German side away, what does that tell you?

In Europe we get punished for the kinds of mistakes we generally don’t get punished for in SPFL, what does that tell you.

Games against Hearts and Aberdeen told us that something wasn’t quite right, what was it?

We have a big squad but not all are suitable quality so players are not interchangeable – JF for LA – not a chance, LS for GT – not a chance, who for Calmac and Rogic? Nobody.

Why is JMcC not getting a game or Liam Scales? – clearly they weren’t Ange’s signings and he doesn’t really fancy them but he’ll play them as substitutes in SPFL – is that what we can expect for the remainder of their contracts? DD thought he was showing us a trick when he brought them on board but he doesn’t know enough about football and you’ve got to wonder if he even consulted Ange or did he just do it to show his “power”?

It is more than disappointing, it is downright deflating/depressing but we are still on the mend after the disaster/trauma of last season.

  26. The hand of God on

Was at the game tonight and thought Bodo seemed much fitter than us maybe because of their preseason training camp in Spain which enabled them to outrun and outmuscle us which begs the question why aren’t we in such good shape when those pesky qualifiers come round in July🤔.Also do we ever practice corners,if we do there’s little evidence of it as we very rarely score from them despite racking up numerous amounts of them in most games.I could understand playing short ones tonight as Bodo had several tall players but there didn’t seem to be much of a plan when we did.Bodo were clinical tonight and were fortunate with the deflection for the 3rd goal.I don’t expect to go through but if we score first over there it becomes possible. The league is far more important and Sevco have their bogey team away on Sunday before we play Dundee,if they slip up and we win the Bodo game will soon be forgotten…here’s hoping.
