You’re driving me nuts with this Scottish motorway “single fish”!

  2. Professor Green

Quite right. My old man can’t even be bothered getting excited for the champions league because we have no chance of winning it!!

He grew up watching Celtic beating the best and lording it over the the rest of Europe. Not just simply competing but dominating great teams.

His opinion is there is no point being in it, unless we are in it to win it.

    ———————

That’s the reason i don’t get my knickers in a twist when we go out of Europe, I accept where we are these days, my Dad hurls abuse at every mistake where as I understand why a team that cost about £10mill to put together sometimes fails.

@Markdaly2 The BBC now have an incredibly serious problem to deal with . Ken McQuarrie must realise that what is suspected here is that Rangers paid a PR agency to brief the BBC against Celtic, and 5 days later the BBC criticized Celtic supporters live on TV, in an allegation that was hotly disputed. It doesn’t get worse for the BBC than allegations of bias and collusion

  5. Anybody out there into boys club football? Some decent teams our there with players. Lot of raw talent falling under the radar of pro clubs in this country. Not getting scouted properly and utilised ad it should be by pro clubs.

  6. canamalar1 20:18

    He fits the profile.

I hope, and I know you hope, you are wrong on this one. The one thing that worries me, is that the name is now out in the public domain, unless we are almost over the line with it, that is never a good sign.

We need to speculate to accumulate at this moment in time, IMO.

  7. Maybe I’m naive , but my view of PL and the board has changed over the last few years.I thought they were doing a great job but I now forming the opinion that like every other Celtic board in my lifetime, they fail to realise our potential through frugality.

That maybe borne out of the belief that the club must always be healthy financially and that ain’t wrong but there are countless occasions over the years when a bit of investment would have led to something special.

We have always sold our best players or tried to do there ain’t nothing new in the Vic & Gary situation.( for Vic & GH read Jimmy McGrory who refused to go to Arsenal, Willie Lyon, Bobby Collins, King Kenny, Charlie Nic, McLair, Van Hooidonk,Macari, Hay) The common denominator to the majority of these guys leaving was cash or lack of.

In my lifetime we have never ever pushed the boat out , except under MON and guess what happened, we got to a Euro final.

We didn’t invest in the 77 double winning team and let Kenny go, the Centenary team was fabulous but broken up heralding 9 in a row for Deidco , we fell for SDM line in January when WGS was in charge and didn’t strengthen coz we thought they would sell their best and we would canter the league.

Anyway , to cut a long story short the current board are no different to previous ones.

They have a severe aversion to splash the cash and consequently we always underachieve.

Backing the right mhan as the did under MON to me shows what we are capable of regularly, euro finals.

A world wide support of millions deserve the backing!

    Hail Hail

    Cockney as get out!

    Huge Celtic fans!

They fly up as a family 5 or 6 times a season!

If you knew your history you’d know that was a Harold McMillan quote, not Maggie.

McMillan, aka Supermac, never got hot under the collar like her, was a One Nation wet and , in later life, spoke out in the Lords against privatization, referring to it as ‘selling the family silver’. He is also famous for his Winds of Change Speech speech in South Africa against apartheid. All round good guy and a big pal of the only Catholic President of the US, John Kennedy, who didn’t know his history either, not realizing half of what had gone on between Perfidious Albion and Ireland until his first state visit there.

I’m not lecturing you and don’t flounce please, there’s been an atmosphere redolent of flouncing this week and time for a bit of peace, I think.

  10. Few comments about the superb Elves result. As always, I hope Celtic wipe the floor with the opposition: therefore giving joy to many while also shutting up the moaners. Actually do they ever stop moaning?

  11. Backing MON was almost a disaster, despite the great times the board that backed him are not the template for Celtic.

  12. We have never had it so good

    Bollox

I’d say Mr Stein and co would have something to say on that …never mind Bob Kelly …who would have taken those SFA shysters to the cleaners …

  13. 1 euro final, and it almost bankrupt us, didn’t the huns do the same and it did bankrupt them.

Damn knew Robben would be the next goal scorer, never boo them, should’ve bet

  14. Posting from Miami airport waiting for delayed flight back to NYC.

    64K question.

How did John Herron play today?

Today I think was the first time he has featured per season.

  15. Pfyar, did Bob Kelly not have some official duties for the SFA? Ernie Lynch may be able to correct me if I am mistaken but I think he did.

In effect boys club football in this country finishes at 10 for the elite boys who then enter the pro youth ranks. My own son is on the books of Motherwell.

We have some great talent in this country and great facilities which should provide rich pickings in a few short years…..no kidding we have some serious talent.

Difficulty seems to be the mid teen years when the boys lose focus to our cultural temptations.

  17. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

Is the Elfsborg game on tv this coming week and if so on what channel please?

  18. the huddle

You are being a tad melodramatic.

We were never near bankruptcy after MON, granted their was a period where high earners were shipped out .

My point and my only point is with a bit of financial backing not even on the scale of the MON era we really could go places!

Maybe Dermot could underwrite a couple of quality signings from his billions and prove he really has an emotional investment in us!!!

The point I’m making is that – my friends young sons and friends heard it being sung and the impression I’m getting is that certain folk were planted in that specific area to sing it. The folk who sung it were described to me as being ‘scary’ and not like the normal Cellic support who travel down south, but when my friends young sons and friends got away from there and nearer to the stadium the atmosphere was as normal amongst the Celtic support. Also, I wouldn’t rule out ‘plants’ throwing stuff onto the pitch the other night as well. During the week I’ll try to get more info – pubs etc.

Either you or your friend is a lying ba…rd.

Don’t dare come on this or any other Celtic site and accuse us of that.

You have listened to lies from other peepul, and been daft enough to spread them.

Do you hate CelticPLC so much that you lie lie and lie again about the fans?

  20. WGS

    ————-

I play football with 18-21 players that are excellent, tall, strong, fast, good with both feet yet playing football for fun with wasters like me.

Don’t know why they never got a sniff at a decent level. I can only assume that the players picked up by the big clubs are much better than the ones I’ve played against.

  21. GG….re John Herron…..

I thought that he and young Mcgregor were given a tough task. Our mid included them, Commons and Brown. So, only Brown had both experience and graft. We really didn’t have a functioning midfield at all.

Young MacGregor looked shattered when he misplaced a pass that led to the opponents first goal. I felt that the senior players could have been more supportive.

Herron looked like he wanted the ball, but the Germans closed us down quickly, so we didn’t pass much in midfield.

    Just my take.
