It took The Big O over twenty years to get back near the top,in the main due to The Travelling Wilburys. Realising that it COULD be done,it seems a concerted effort was made by a lot of big names to get appropriate material together for an album.

The roll-call of writers and performers was like The Hall of Fame.

In a life marred by tragedy, the final one was his fatal heart attack two months before its release.

(At least he wasn’t alive to hear one of his greatest songs reduced-hilariously!-to a laughing stock in Only Fools and Horses!)

You couldn`t fail to be moved by his life history.

The Wilbury`s would have been such a joy for him.

The recognition of his peers. He was a unique talent.

    The paths of glory….

  5. Good morning friends. Although it’s a grey, wet start to the working week here in EK the weather is failing to dampen my mood from yesterday’s fantastic display.

And 2 more visits to Celtic Park in the next 6 days. Woo hoo!

  9. Morning all.

Radio Scotland doing us down, as ever. Commentary on final goal and quoting Paul Hartley saying his team were shambolic, apart from the goalkeeper (possible MotM). Nothing at all about how good we were. Pathetic.

Excellent! I’ve seen Julian twice over the past few months. Once in Edinburgh, playing to an appreciative and enthusiastic crowd, and once at a festival – where there were more than a few open mouths at his weird druid-ness and sweary songs. I have his books on standing stones etc. too. A real individual.

Morning Bhoys a wet day here in Central Scotland well the team was great yesterday ans we will probably see a few changes for the next two home games Ronny likes to use his squad. H.H.

Mate – they don’t even know they’re doing it. It’s normalised and has been since 1888. We all know what a good game it was – Celtic will never get the credit they’re due. When you win 6-0 (going on 10) and the national broadcaster is looking for negatives, you know you’re up against it. But it matters not – this is a culture, not a holding company.

  13. Dreich day, gladdened heart!

    Happy 40th Ronnie D!

    Enjoy your day Timdom.

Teardrops fan in their day,and saw them live twice-once supporting Queen at Ingliston, and once in Glasgow, but canny remember where offhand.

I’ve got some of his solo stuff too. Including Jehovahkill, which is a real mind…k.

He was in The Red Lion in Avebury one time that I was having a swift one on the way home. I was gonna just say hello but reckoned he might skelp me one wi a gauntlet! He’s a very distinctive guy, even on his days off!!

  15. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Interesting the news of Carlton Cole Ronny seems quite keen on the player but many Celtic supporters dont want or rate the player. I know very little about the player except for a striker he is not a prolific scorer. H.H.

  16. prestonpans bhoys on

I was watching the news from Birmingham with a chap claiming that the midlands was bigger than Scotland. If he’s talking physically then he must be looking at the BBC weather map!

  17. A chat with a good friend who is also a Hammers fan might shed a bit of light on Ronny’s seeming enthusiasm for Carton Cole. He still rates him as someone who gives 100% every time he plays.

He reckons that CC is a presence who brings leadership to the dressing room and leaves multiple bruises on on centre halfs.

Were we not just asking for some old heads after Malmö? Seems he suits the bill.

  18. Joe Filippis Haircut on

San Diego Bhoy. Well if he brings leadership to the younger players and he is a battler he may well do us a turn if we sign him. H.H.

  19. Wasn’t long ago Carlton Cole was a £20,000,000.00 target for the Mancs….

    7 England caps too.

Saw the Teardrop Explodes in QMU early ’80s. Is that the gig you were at?

Saw Psychedelic Furs in QMU around same time. Both amazing gigs.

Cheers, mate. No wonder I couldn’t figure out where it was-I probably didn’t know much about it!

Thanks for that wee favour wi GORDYBHOY. Some mail addy he has…

  26. BMCUW –

Julian is a one-off. Guy’s a genius as far as I’m concerned. I would have loved to have have seen the Teardrops. He still performs some of their song’s – Culture Bunker and Far Pavillions were given an airing when I saw him a few months ago. He’s also a great story-teller.

Psychedelic Furs – I certainly remember seeing them in Glasgow in the 80’s. Probably QMU or similar. Few pints of cider, poke of chips and the late bus back to Coatbridge with everybody steming and singing. Them were the days.

When certain events from our youth are mentioned, and so many pop up wi their own recollections,it’s maybe just as well we didn’t all know each other back then.

There was enough daft boayishness then as it was!
