  1. The Herlad has a wee bit of a conhundrum……………………….

It can’t make up its mind regarding what’s best for the guid o’ scoddish foo’ball…………

    (Funny that.)

    – a stirring 4 goal game between – the champs and a testy challenger…………….

……………(oh aye – Armageddon!)……………………….or just another opportunity to be snide about Ther Bhoys……….

  2. I remember watching Larsson during the USA world cup. He stood out because of his hair but you could also see the ability. I couldn’t believe it when he was signing for us. Only Wim Jansen and I knew we had a gem:-) Although I didn’t think we had signed a prolific goalscorer and then came that flying header against St Johnstone.

If Pukki is half as good as Henrik we will have a great player.

I often recall Thierry Henry stating after Barca had beaten Arsenal in the European Cup final (after Henrik came on to change the game). They had Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho but all I saw was Henrik Larsson!

    By Ghod we were blessed.

No matter who we buy some on here will still have a complaint.

Sutton? A Chelsea reject. £6m? What a waste of money

Larsson? A Feyenoord reject, we should have booted him out after that Charnley goal.

Moravcic? We could have bought a proven player like John Spencer.

Bangura? Now this guy knows the way to goals, KoK recommendation no less, must be good enough.

    ==

    Not 100% correct.

Sutton part of the SAS that banged in goals for fun in England prior to joining Chelski

where it went a bit pear shaped. An immense player

Henke – Rated so much by Feyenoord that it took a court case for them to release him, played in the World cup as part of an excellent Swedish team

Lubo – a legend in French football prior to coming to us

Bangara – I do not think Henke recommended him.

  4. Gordon j

Pikku has a poor scoring record. He may indeed be a good player but we have lots of so called strikers with poor scoring records. It’s as if the club really want to screw things up. If we would have bought the other gut for £5m then I think we would all have been delighted. Instead we pay over the odds for another gamble. It’s pathetic and the saving if £2m is for a club with celtics means penny pinching.

Add to that that its simply too late and we should never have sold hooper before cl qualification (didn’t Lennon say others wont sell at this stage) and the club look stupid.

Same can be seen on the Wilson sale – he wanted to go so we let him go says Neil. Why didn’t we wait until the cl qualifier.

The club look shambolic both on and off the field. It’s has been a disastrous transfer window and Pikku looks like the wrong choice for the wrong reason.

Pl and nl I think think they are bullet proof. They aren’t and Thursday morning is not going to be pretty. I spoke to loads of supporters at the game yesterday. Everyone to a person is furious with what has gone down. The guys I go with haven’t bought tickets for Wednesday. Their reason – if celtic are not going to try or spend money then why should we. I was going to get the pies in yesterday and they said not to bother – the club don’t deserve an extra penny from us. It’s normally me who feels like that. I was astonished at how strongly they fellt.

There was anger everywhere I looked yesterday and that performance was complete,y unacceptable. And yet we get the usual suspects desperately trying to paint a rosy picture.

Perhaps Armageddon is coming. What we didn’t realise that it would be our board that caused it!

  5. In the first instance the Pukki story is only a rumour, there is no confirmation that I am aware of. If it is true and he does come he deserves a chance as do the four recent arrivals, Virgil, Steven, Amido & Derk. Knocking guys after a couple of games or in Pukki’s case before he even arrives is pure nonsense.

    Good Morning,

Last week I happened to mention on twitter that my eldest son was in the US of A where he had been a coach/leader/carer type thing in a summer camp in up sate New York.

He finished there on 12th August and so decided to wander around the USA for a bit, going to Chicago, then Miami, before heading up to Baltimore and Washington DC.

His final few days will be in New York where he is going to the US tennis open.

Of course, it will come as no surprise that he has made the odd text back to his old da saying ” Eh can you send me out some money cause I am skint” and so a couple of days ago money had to be transferred as he made his way to Washington DC– and this was the subject of my tweet.

Out of the blue, I received a message back from Graham Wilson who some of you may know as a mad Celtic supporting American who presents and produces the Beyond the Waves podcasts on Hail Hail Media.

I have never met Graham, but I appeared on his show once to promote the Willie Wallace book.

Anyway, the message from Graham was simply to say that if my son was in Washington, Graham would happily come and collect him from wherever he was staying and take him to the Washington DC Celtic Supporters Club to watch the game against Inverness ( The Club’s Web page is to be found here http://www.dccsc.com/ ).

This was a very kind offer, but alas my son could not accept the invitation as he was a guest in someone’s house– along with 8 others— and as he was the only Celtic supporter he felt that it just wouldn’t be right to walk out on his friends and hosts to head off to an Irish bar to watch the hoops.

So….. myself and my youngest son ( I have three ) go to the game yesterday, and when I come home I quickly get changed to head out to some friends’ house for dinner.

Dinner is accompanied by a few large gin & tonics and a healthy amount of white wine with the result that my bed is reached at the back of 2am by way of a forward somersault with three and a half twists via the pike position with a 6.4 degree of difficulty!

Before I hit the mattress I know that this morning my head will ask a question:

    ” Gin AND wine? Seriously?”.

I am in bed for only a couple of hours when I am awoken by my phone buzzing to let me know I have received a text!

In a haze and fug I check the phone– as at that time in the morning something could be wrong somewhere — which, when I think about it, is a stupid train of thought as I was hardly in any position to help anyone with anything.

Anyway, the text was from said son in Washington DC and the gist of it was to announce that he was at the Lincoln Memorial.

Ha had told his friends of the offer to go to The Celtic Supporters Club — and while his Scottish friends just shrugged and showed no great interest, the Americans were astounded at the idea of a Scottish Football Club having a supporters club in DC.

Of course he advised them that there were Celtic fans all over the world and it would appear that while this was taken in, so to speak, the extent of the Celtic family was not fully understood by the American cousins.

And so the entire party headed out on a wee guided tour and ended up going to see Mr Lincoln….. where, standing proud as punch getting his photo taken was a chap wearing the hoops!

This astounded the American hosts who now viewed my sons claim of worldwide Celtic infiltration and domination with much more respect.

” Hail Hail– Nice shirt” said my son to the stranger in the hoops:

” Hail Hail yourself” replied the fella ” Did you see the game? We were Gash!” replied the fanatical supporter in Green & White, and after a brief conversation my boy moved on……..

…….. and then thought he had better send a text there and then just to tell his dear old dad bout meeting this Celtic fan at the Lincoln memorial.

That was nice of him…… especially when he ended his message with the words………..

” Sorry for waking you up!”.

    Children— you gotta love them!

  7. sydneytim- I apologise for sending that last post, today is a glorious Sunday morning, I’m off to play golf on one of Scotland’s finest courses, after being out for 3 weeks with an injury. Can’t wait to get out there.

Then tomorrow is a holiday Monday and finally on Wednesday there is the prospect of an evening money simply cannot buy

I regret wasting time this fine morning on a self pity merchant like yourself.

Enjoy your wallowing, it’s what you enjoy best.

  8. Robin. Well if Neil says we are going to sign a striker then I will believe him and wait for the news this week

What I do hope is that pukki is the one expected to score goals as he did not score goals in Finland , Spain or Germany

  9. SydneyTim

I’m not saying Teemu will be Henrik, but at least give the guy a chance ya moaning old git. You have him sussed already? Funny it’s in a negative way again – so easy that, but such a sad way to go through life.

FYI in the 4 seasons prior to signing for Celtic – Henrik averaged 6 goals a season. Stats eh!!!

  10. Right tonydonnely enough of your nonsense. So we are all Huns are we. Tell me why haven’t celtic sorted out the striker position before now? Lets see you answer some questions for a change.

  11. Neg. very true we need a proven goal scorer not a project

If we had at least one proven goal scorer then indeed why not try a project

However PL has put our club in the situation of having zero goal scorers

So bring in a proven goal scorer and yes that cost a wee bit extra

  12. NegAnon2,

Just more of the “spend, spend, spend” fetish.

If you spend £5M on a player there is no guarantee that he will give you a better scoring return than a different player bought for £3M. My interest is in the players not the price tag.

Yet again with the revisionism over Hooper and WIlson.

We were told for months on here that Hooper was uninterested and didn’t want to play. Now we should have kept him, forced him to play and he would have apparently performed. Kelvin Wilson was slated for two years as useless. He leaves and has suddenly become Franco Baresi.

  13. scotlands shame on

Oglach, just as well team yesterday Will bare no resemblance to team on Wed. Positive thinkin.

  14. Bjmac. We need a goal scorer

Henke scored 99 goals before he came to us and the seasons before he came he played in midfield

When Henke arrived we had by viduka who was a goal scorer

  15. NegAnon, is boycotting the pies or at least his pals are boycotting the pies.

Sweet Mother of God, I’ve heard it all now.

  16. Really funny to see posters who didn’t support Hooper or Wilson when they played for us suddenly give it to Celtic in the neck for not keeping them!

Reality it either is or it isn’t in your world..

  17. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma on

Teemu Pukki scored a goal every 149 minutes in the Bundesliga last season whilst Hooper scored every 140 in the SPL — and the Bundesliga is a better standard than he will find in Scotand.

  18. You know it takes more energy to grimace than smile…ergo it must take more energy to be miserable that be cheerful.

There must be some knackered people on here!

  19. Gordon. Hopper had zero competition he was the only player we had who could regularly put the ball on the back of the net

I think you will find non scoring strikers are cheap because they tend not to err mm score goals

And strikers that score goals are more expensive cause they err mm tend to score goals Think you will find that is standard.

Eg finbogason scores goals and maybe take 6m to get him( think we have a wee bit of money )

And your murphys, bangura , miku, rammasun pukki don’t score goals and are cheap

  20. Cork cell merely an example of the sentiment yesterday. We shall see how bad it gets when the club ask us to buy Europa tickets.

Gordon j – what lazy tosh. Of course any signing is a gamble. But you have to play the percentages – £2m extra for a proven goals corer looks sensible to most. As for your guff on hooper. He still scored lots of goals last season. It’s common sense to wait a month and get a replacement before selling – as Neil has found that’s how serious football clubs behave.

  21. BRTH

    :)

…the Clydebank judge gives you a 10 for the audacious somersault with full twisting pike…….!

..I’ve attempted a few of those in the past………usually after copious Beamish AND red wine…………

    HH.

  22. SydneyTim

Stats can be manipulated for any argument – look at BrTH’s and mine. Who would have thought with his 4 years at PSV Henrik would’ve been the player he was for us?

My point is you’ve got the guy pre-judged before he’s signed for us based on some numbers from Wikipedia.

Give him a chance IF he does sign!

    bjmac

  23. Neg2 @ 10.19

You are correct — the club has been shambling both on and off the park this season.

However the excuses keep coming, the verbal gymnastics moves up to Olympic standards.

    No growth agenda.

    Hoarding cash for who’s benefit?

    PL has to go.

  24. Sevcomedian jurisconsults in pursuit of justice:

    ——

“Craig Whyte should be jailed IMO maybe their still gathering enough evidence to make sure he doesn’t get away with it”

    ——

” He also stole Money inthe form of Arsenal shares allegedly.”

    ——

“Even if he is bought before a court he won’t even turn up ….” [bit off topic….existentialism?]

    ——

“I don’t think he’s committed fraud either. Fraud is using someone else’s name, as far as I know, he used his own name.”

  25. No CQN match report that’s unusual.

    TN’T @ 09;23,

Interesting comments by Lenny on gambling.

I watched the Sevco game on Friday, the commentator and summariser extolling pity on Ian Black, praising his professionalism in carrying on regardless.

You’d have thought he’d had a bereavement, not been investigated for a serious breach of the rules.

  26. Madmitch, neganon & SydneyTim on at same time.

    CQN does struggle sometimes

log-off 10mins after my first visit here for weeks, I’ve not been missing anything sadly.

  27. Tonydonnely you are the worst kind of poster. A name caller without the courage to debate. Pathetic.

  28. Go tell the Spartim on

Gordon 64, that’ll be the same disinterested Hooper that bagged 2 in the cup final, obviously the irony of revisionism is lost on you.

Whoever the attacker is that we eventually sign will I fear, be too little to late.
