Check your outbuildings

Lots of speculation over the weekend that we’ll see Craig Gordon in goal for Scotland and Fraser Forster in for England tomorrow night.  I’m claiming the two of them as ‘ours’.  Big Fraser was a great Celtic goalkeeper and professional.  He deserves one last curtain call on the pitch that made him.

I see Dick Advocaat completed his work with Serbia in less than half a season after their home defeat by Denmark on Friday and is now available for employment elsewhere.  The Serbs have carried some hurt after Denmark made-off with Euro 92, when one of Europe’s great teams were denied their stage by civil war.  The Danes were famously on the beach after being eliminated from the qualifying rounds by Yugoslavia before war in the Balkans opened the door for them to compete in, and win the tournament.

The last thing Serbian football fans deserved was to have Advocaat lead them.  The Dutchman left us with so many great memories.

Do you have Craig Whyte holed up in a safe house, as the formerly advertised Motherwell-born billionaire remains at large after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Friday?  If not, he’s perhaps gone feral and living in an outbuilding.

Check your shed, look behind the bins.  It might be an idea to leave some food out for him.  He may be disguised, there is no guarantee he’ll be wearing his Celtic scarf and Burton’s apparel, so stay alert.

  1. Apologies if posted already.

Son of Agent Orange, like the tenacious dead sheep that he is, writes…

I note that the European Commission has rejected claims of state aid in relation to Celtic FC.

Few will be surprised by that decision but campaigners who aver that Celtic DID receive state aid have vowed to battle on. Although the Parkhead club has the EC decision in its favour, my understanding is that the fight goes on to prove undue assistance was provided by authorities, including Glasgow City Council.

The DUP’s Gregory Campbell was prominent in bringing the matter before the EC, claiming that the matter had not been given prominence in Scotland due to “politicians relying on Celtic-minded voters and media coverage to get re-elected”.

A bias toward Celtic in the media and the political realm in Scotland? Surely not!

Since it is international fortnight, I get to plug my pet project, which is Team GB. I am in favour of binning the “Home Nations” and running with a UK side. And I would open the door to players from the Republic of Ireland. A footballing Lions, if you like.

I would also support a British League and Cup to replace the EPL and Scottish Prem.

In my opinion, this would revitalise football throughout the British Isles. It might even lead to clubs amalgamating, another thing I strongly favour.

Football must change to maintain its status of the favourite national sport and to keep interest high. This means radical change is necessary.

One thing I will always be grateful to my dad for is that he inculcated in me a love for football, as well as Rangers. Recent years have shown the drastic need for change. In some respects Rangers is pioneering this new era with the changes the club is going through. It is no longer a parochial club, owned and run by local businessmen. This change has brought great pain to many. who want a return to more familiar times. But the world has moved on and the club will never go back.

Change can be painful but it is necessary.

Those within and without the Rangers family who hate and oppose what is happening at Ibrox – including anti-Rangers media – must realise that by doing so, they are killing the game here in Scotland.

The future for Rangers to aspire to is to be a big club in British and European terms. It is no different for Celtic and the other top sides in Scotland. The days are long gone when we can keep refurbishing the small pool our clubs swim in.

Not when the need is actually a bigger pool.

British football and European football is the way forward for our clubs. Team GB is the way forward at international level.

As always, you heard it here first.

  2. From the DR:

“FOUR men have appeared in court in Glasgow now over the alleged fraudulent take over of Rangers in 2011.

David Whitehouse, Paul Clark, David Grier and Gary Withey are appearing from custody at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

    All four were granted bail.

The four were detained in dawn raids in England on Friday involving Police Scotland, Cheshire Police, Surrey Police and Thames Valley Police.

Also on Friday the Crown Office issued a warrant for the arrest of disgraced former Rangers owner, Craig Whyte.

He is believed to be out of the country.

Whitehouse, Clark and Grier were with Duff & Phelps, the company which carried out the administration of Rangers.

Withey worked for Whyte’s London law firm Collyer Bristow before taking on a post with Rangers.

He has since resigned both roles.

The four appeared in private on petition from custody before Sheriff Samuel Cathcart.

Earlier today, some Rangers fans had separately made inquiries at the front desk of the court hoping to sit on the public benches only to be told the case, in court three, was being held in private.”

The good old Daily Record rides to the rescue and gives this heart warming story prominence on their home page:

BIG-HEARTED Rangers fans have stepped in to replace Poppy Appeal cash stolen from a chip shop counter by a hooded scumbag.

The shocking theft of a Royal British Legion collection tin happened south of the border but the story appeared online.

Legion fund-raisers were furious at the sneak theft from Redz chippy in Sunderland two days before Remembrance Sunday .

Now the Rangers Supporters’ Erskine Appeal are donating £200 from their fund-raising efforts to replace the stolen cash.

Secretary Tom Clark said: “For someone to steal a Poppy Appeal tin just seemed to be really bad news, and we wanted to do something to help.”

The RSEA was set up by Rangers fans to raise money for Erskine Veterans’ Home near Glasgow.

Tom said: “We initially wanted to raise £1000 to take veterans along to a football match, but we ended up raising £600,000 – and we’d like to send some money down to Sunderland.

“We’ve made donations to a number of groups, and we’d like to send a cheque for £200 to the Sunderland branch of the Royal British Legion to replace the money that was stolen.”

  16. We’re getting oor breeks in a twist here . I read with great excitement james forrests piece yesterday , and prayed to God it would come to pass , but deep down I knew that going by past experiences NOTHING will come from this , by nothing I expect a slap on the wrist for the culprits at the forefront , while the main players are up , up , and away . firstly it would need a genius to unravel the goings on at that club . And I also think , going by past experiences , that how do they put it , the right people will be in place to make sure it doesn’t go to far . The people who could have brought the govan club down were the other clubs and their fans . Everyone and their granny knows that they were at it , everyone also knew the SFA were big players in the fiasco . But besides snide comments on all football clubs forums , no action was taken . I will continue to look and read on ,with the hope I’m entirely wrong , but as many auld brigade Bhoys on here will verify , we’ve seen it all before

  18. As most of you will know we are going to do some advertising at the start of next year.

The intention, as previously discussed on here, is to do some crowd funding to make this possible.

We have a target to reach of £1500 and when we surpass that the balance will go to the Malawi schools appeal.

We are going to run this as a raffle – at £5 per ticket. Some CQNers have already put up some prizes for the raffle. If you would like to add to the prizes please let me know.

So far we have a unique, very special bottle of whisky, some cashmere Celtic scarfs in gift boxes and we will add copies of the CQN books.

We will see the tickets via http://www.cqnbookstore.com and give options for 1 ticket, 2 tickets, four ticket or ten tickets.

The ad has now passed the initial hurdles so we have appropriately enough, a green light to proceed.

2698 people viewed the initial version of the ad when it was posted on here a few weeks ago. It was only available for a few hours. Many suggested amendments were considered and this allowed us to improve the text.

Many other Celtic supporters have not seen the ad and have been asking to do so. We are trying to keep it under wraps now as we have had quite a bit of interest from out with the Celtic support – none of it pleasant. It is best to keep them in the dark (ages).

Some of the most respected names on here (again trying not to name them) have this revised text and we are working to get it finalised and into the paper before that game. So a little bit of patience and faith is required…

Tickets will be on sale later tonight at http://www.cqnbookstore.com

Has Craig Whyte already been arrested? Rule number 1 when using a false persona is to use one which sounds familiar to you….easier to carry off.

First name Craig as in Craig David, therefore first name David.

Second name Whitehouse as in Whyte and as in the big hoose must stay open. That was our hero Craig as well, master of disguise, the big hoose must stay open.

    So second name Whitehouse.

  21. From STV

Four men appeared in court on Monday following an investigation into the sale of Rangers Football Club in 2011.

Police Scotland detained the men on Friday as part of a joint operation with officers in England.

It is alleged David Whitehouse, Paul Clark and David Grier, who all work for former Rangers administrators Duff and Phelps, and lawyer Gary Withey, who was Rangers’ company secretary after the takeover, were involved in a fraudulent scheme to acquire the club.

While Whitehouse, Clark and Grier are charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

All four men made no plea or declaration and were committed for further examination and granted bail.

A police statement on Friday read: “Following a Police Scotland operation, four men have been arrested and are presently detained in police custody in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged fraudulent acquisition of Rangers FC in 2011.

“Around 6am, officers from Police Scotland, assisted by officers from Thames Valley, Cheshire Police and Surrey Police attended at a number of addresses in England and detained four men. They have now been arrested and are currently detained in police custody.”

It is understood an arrest warrant was issued on Friday for former Rangers owner Craig Whyte, 43, in connection with the investigation.

Mr Whyte took control of Rangers in May 2011 but the club went into administration in February the following year.
