Cliftonville for Celtic in Champions League qualifier

691

The opposition may be less-illustrious than Juventus. our last European opponents, but the importance of next month’s Champions League second qualifying round games against Cliftonville still got the pulse beating.

It is a good draw for Celtic, who are spared travel and associated challenges.

The first leg, at Celtic Park, will take place on 16 or 17 July with return in Belfast on 23 or 24 July. Don’t book travel until dates are confirmed.

Mr. McFadden did not knock us back for an EPL club, he knocked us back to stay with Birmingham in the Championship!

If the rumours are true, I would hope that it’s a “pay as you play” deal, as I dont think he deserves a contract with us due to his previous refusal.

    Just my opinion.

I wouldn’t dare be so irresponsible with such fine, upstanding young citizens……or even the weans!! :-)

  10. Wasn’t too sure about McFadden as he appeared to snub us the last time, but he is a good footballer and seems to be getting back to some form. Was impressive for Mwell and i don’t think his wages would break the bank and alas with Derry Pele on the road I see him making a contribution particularly in games where we can rest our bigger performers. If we sign him then he may get an indian summer at 30 he’s not too old and has a few years yet.

  13. See if Celtic bank 30 million plus if Forster and Hooper join Wanyama out the door.

I hope they go for Eduardo Vargas or Raul Jimenez. Push the boat transfer fee wise. They’ll get it back plus more.

I wouldn’t worry about the dead club at #92 still being there.

The coefficient rankings are calculated as a combination of a club’s results and the performance of all clubs from that member association.

As the rankings are calculated on the previous 5 years, Rangers will appear on the rankings until (I think) season 2016-17.

They cannot be removed because their results contribute to the coefficient points of any SFA member team who qualify, and for the same reason, their total is added to every year, the amount calculated on other SFA members’ results.

Last week, Derry City were given coefficient points for their Europa League qualifiers, but those points were not added to those of Derry City, the club liquidated in 2009, but still on the rankings.

Article 12 will see The Rangers, should they ever qualify for Europe, given qualifying points, but those should not be added to the points of the Rangers presently at #92.

  15. Suprised we never asked SOuthampton the question on Morgan Schneiderlin as poart of wanyama deal.

Cliftonville v Celtic 16th/17th July @ Solitude. The venues have been switched folks, but we get our game at home which is exactly what we wanted.

    ————

Cliftonville spokesperson on SKY just said that his understanding is that the game will be played at Solitude.

  17. HT i usually end up doing the driving myself so I know you might as well be on your own once the “toddlers” have tired themselves out on the daytrip!

  22. BMCUW, I think at this stage i’d need to add zimmer frame to that list, but can’t bear to hang up the boots yet, the mind is active but the legs unwilling. Weird being back in Hamilton but need to get more social thats where I thought the 5 a sides would kill two birds

It has been switched yes, our Chairman just announced that Celtic agreed to the move and they’re just waiting on UEFA rubber stamping it.The day of the game still hasn’t been decided yet however.

I was asked by a couple of lurkers about my leg at the graveyard on Saturday morning both from Hamilton..

Well I assume they lurk as they never told me their cqn names..

  29. McFadden on a free, as back up to Commons, would be a good deal IMO. When Kris doesn’t play we struggle to create chances as we have no one else who can play in the attacking midfield, floating role. Faddy could do step in when Kris is injured/rested.

Also increases our number of home grown players required for UEFA competition.

I hope you enjoy your homecoming-I always enjoy mine!

It’s leaving again which is becoming more difficult. Increasingly, but heyho.
