  1. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

SuperSutton – with you on Klimala.

First start for a new team, in a new country, on a plastic pitch during a hurricane.

Thought the 21 YEAR OLD did fine.

    Lenny aint the Messiah!

    Or the Pope.

    He does get it wrong………………….sometimes!

    ==================================================================

    Well of course he does.

Just possible he and his team of professionals may be better informed about about the condition , health attitude of his players and tactical requirements of our side than the critical amateurs on CQN.

Agree, well most of the time.

Well then , you`re on the right track.

    Most of the time .

    :-)

  4. Nice wee win and a few players rested to boot. Bayo has very good (striker) movement in and around the box and will score goals as a result. He has not played a lot, in part, due to to some serious injuries. I think he is better than some think.

Shved’s lack of game time is a strange once to me, he certainly looks comfortable on the ball and moves it about well. He has done it at a good level, I hope he starts pushing forrest for a place.

Good result in very tricky conditions.

Manager makes the calls but we have a right to comment on them without being given a hard time for doing so surely?

Think he should have given young Shved more time, seems a total waste of time bringing him on for a few minutes.

Onwards to Wednesday and the diet huns….

A marvellous recovery , Lennie , from the low of Dec. 29.

    Keep it going .

Kudos to you and to your coaching squad .

  7. Call_of_Juarez on

Not convinced how relevant Klimala’s age and experience is. He missed a chance that he should have put away. Hope his decision making is bettet next time he is one on one.

  8. Fix fitba: Empty Hampden…

…………………………………………………of any (Mc)Nugget who thinks top flight fitba should be played on lumpy linoleum………………..

  9. The 5 games Brendan Rodgers lost during the invincible season, were – presumably – Euro games ? (including Lincoln Red Imps ) and the opposition would have been higher quality than those faced by Neil Lennon, so the comparison isn’t totally objective.

Not a smidgeon of criticism of Lenny at all, just pointing out that it’s like comparing apples and oranges ( not the ‘loyal’ kind 😉 ). I think Lenny has done a great job so far. 👍

  10. Call of Juarez,

French Eddy missed an open goal against Motherwell the other night.

I hope his decision making is better when next faced with an open goal 👍

It’s data. As objective as you can get!

Apples and oranges suggests a comparison of 2 completely different things. Take the point that the 2 managers have played different teams in Europe but I think it’s a reasonable comparison overall given that most games will be SPFL/Cups.

Aye, but look what happened to him. He didn’t even make the bench today. 😂

  13. Natknow,

Agree, but sometimes you need to look further than the data.

It’s a comparison of numbers. Nothing else.

Which is probaly what you intended, so no offence to you 😉

    —————————————

Absolutely no offence taken buddy – it’s all about opinions.

I guess my real point is not so much that Lenny is better than Brendan, but rather that there were some who could hardly hide their angst when Lenny was offered the job and indeed some who were predicting that it would be an unmitigated disaster and that Celtic PLC had thrown away 9IAR by giving Lenny the job.

You’re correct about looking beyond the data.

  15. My guess is Lenny will play the same team on Wednesday as he did against Motherwell. Elyonoussi for me is a class act but will be on the bench for now. Interesting dilemma going forward because we cannot leave Elyonoussi out, he is too good, but not sure he would be comfortable as left full back in a 3-5-2. Go 4-3-3 to accommodate him and Griff drops to bench.

  16. Having been otherwise engaged all afternoon, I watched Sportscene to see the highlights. Turned it off as soon as they were shown. I had thought Michael Stewart had been reinstated. Obviously not.

By the old bye, thank you, Celtic.

  17. I am one of those who was not at all happy when we appointed Neil Lennon as manager. Apart from the odd game, he has proved me wrong. We seem to be playing great ENTERTAINING football again. If it means playing 3 5 2 or whatever, long may it continue. If that means there is no place for the likes of Elyinoussi, so be it. The Invisible Man seems to be thriving.

  18. David, It’s all about opinions right enough, but surely we don’t want to drop The Griff to the bench, not now when he’s back and looking as though he’s getting better each game. The most natural goal scorer we’ve got, playing with a player of French Eddie’s quality he’s even more of a danger.

  19. DAVID17

I think Elyounoussi is too good a player to leave out

Lenny has got to decide what to do with Frimpong when he’s fit again

We have many excellent players who haven’t featured much recently, or at all, with no dip in performance

  20. Think it could be an option to play Elyo off Eddy and keep the 3-5 with those two being the 2. Elyo and Griff could rotate.

On a separate note, Celtic Twitter today is a somewhat hysterical. Bauer is taking a pounding, personally I thought he was ok. Klimala is being written off along with Bayo. Probably better for Soro that he didn’t get on today. We won 3-0 at a canter. Its madness.

  21. DAVID17

I think Moi would be a very decent option alongside Eddie, he takes up excellent positions in the box and he’s strong and quick enough to play as a striker

Twitter is full of absolute nutters. Every time I look at anything to do with Celtic I’m shocked at some of the stuff that people think is OK to post

  22. Denia Bhoy

It is not the disagreement with or questioning of our manager that gets me; it’s the language used in doing so.

    Bizarre?/Baffling? Incomprehensible? subs etc;

When I read those allegations I instinctively feel that the poster making the allegations lacks the imagination or empathy to put themselves in the manager’s shoes and work out the reasons why it may be so.

First of all- the timings of the subs.

We were 2:0 up and comfortable from the 40th minute but no sub was made until the 69th minute.

Was that a right or wrong decision or is it just a judgement call that gets proven right or wrong by the end result? Is it even bizarre? The best managers that ever lived have managed in matches where they have made no subs or have made their dirst change long after 69 minutes- so what are some of the possible reasons why they may do that?

Well, first of all- we were only 2:0 up. Goodwillie had a good chance that could have given us a nasty last 15 minutes. Secondly, our starting line up already had 5 or 6 changes from the line ups we have been using. Neil may have felt that he wanted to let the new team gel for as long as possible before introducing other changes that might have upset that gelling and risked a draw or defeat.

So why Hayes for Forrest and why is that possibly bizarre? The fan base that wants to see the new bling had the hots for seeing Shved unleashed but Neil chose the safer (to him) option of bringing on the season-hardened Jonny, who has rarely let us down rather than a guy who has done little as yet. But Neil did bring him on with a few minutes left. That may have the effect of encouraging him he has a chance since the manager trusted him to play but did not want him to experience a situation where the game was still tight or we might draw or lose.

Bringing Bayo on for Klimala at 75 minutes was sensible in that it kept the team shape the same, it rested Klimala who had been doing a lot of work upfront on his own, and it gave Neil another look at Bayo- showing him that there is still something there- as he kept going well after missing 2 chances to grab a goal. That’s 3 very sensible, non-bizarre reasons why that sub occured- and that’s just off the top of my head.

Leaving Griffiths, Taylor and Forster on the bench makes sense as they were not needed to show again what they can do because the starters did their work. That leaves Neil choosing 3 subs from 4 and Soro missed out but he’s just in the door and will get his chance.

Now, I have no idea whether my speculations about Neil’s reasoning and rationale bears any resemblance to what he, himself, was thinking when he made those judgement choices but I do know one thing. They were not bizarre or baffling or incredible!

They may not have been the choices you, or I, would have made but that does not make them baffling or bizarre unless you believe your own opinions to be sacrosanct and your strategies infallible.

Our choices might be made because we want to see our new bling and we want to see them yestrday, so we want Shved and Soro. We might not want Jonny Hayes because we think he’s rubbish bu that does not make the opinions and judgement of those who think he is handy and useful, to be bizarre opinions.

We express our preferences based on the favourites and scapegoats we ourselves have. We base that on the views we have of their previous performances. We want our untried favourites started ahead of the guys we have seen and consider failures or inadequates, but we base those judgements on viewing a game at the stadium weekly or fortnightly, or seeing the games on TV intermittently.

We do not have the information that our coaches and manager/ selectors have in viewing these players most days at training. We don’t know whose injury is clear and whose is still troubling them. We don’t know who has been working hard and who has been shirking training duties and we don’t know anything about their state of mind and home life pressures.

    Not having access to all of that, we should be wary and careful of using the highly judgemental language of bizarre subs/ picks his favourites (well, of course he does- doesn’t mean he likes them as people though) etc;

It’s not having different opinions that is being criticised here; it is the vehemence and certainty with which those opinions are expressed that is being called out by this post.

I have 2 current players who I am not yet convinced are good enough long term for us. One of them played 90 minutes today and the other was an unused sub. Both have been with us only this season. I may be proved right about them in the long term but, for the moment, it looks like I may have called them wrong and they will turn out to be better servants to the club than I thought they would be.

They would join a long list of players like Calmac, Christie, Rogic and Griffiths who have reached heights of which I never thought they were capable. But I have no qualms about acknowledging I might be wrong, have been wrong and will be wrong again in my judgements.

  23. I was personally glad to see

Klimala, Bayo, Shved & Bauer all get a run out today

Taking conditions into consideration, that all done ok

    Oh – include Bolingoli 😂

  24. Saint Stivs – some photos.

We don’t know how lucky we are sometimes.
