Cognitive Dissonance with Pressley always in middle of controversy

738

Stephen Pressley’s Falkirk team did well at Hampden yesterday but the manager did himself no credit with his half time rant at the referee, who chopped off a perfectly good Celtic goal but annoyed Pressley for awarding a penalty when Thomas Rogne was hauled to the ground.

An irritated Pressley, who always seems to be the one in the middle of any controversy, then gave an inexplicable post-match interview to the BBC, demonstrating as clear a case of Cognitive Dissonance you are likely to find outside of a textbook.  At the time he, apparently, hadn’t seen a TV replay of the penalty incident, made no attempt to claim Darren Dods was innocent of the alleged discretion, nor did he suggest the referee had erred, but he was clearly troubled trying to reconcile these facts with his feeling of being wronged.

To all aspiring Cognitive Dissonance posters in the CQN comments section, new standards have been set. You are a bunch of amateurs with functioning resolution pathways and have no future in the game.

I do remember Cameron’s comments at the time, but the real consequences of the tackle were then still not known: it was too soon. I was unhappy at Cameron’s attempts to vindicate Ganea, especially now when we know so much more. Cameron should have declined to comment if he felt compromised about slagging off a club colleague for a reckless challenge on an international teammate.

Got a text from a Bairns fan after the game- “How much did you pay the ref?”

Unbelievably shocking offside decision by Stephen Mitchell yesterday, he was also the lino with Euan Norris at Inverness v Rangers in August, their combined eagle eyes managed to spot this little combo-

“Tokely’s challenge on Stevie Naismith in the box was high-risk but it looked like he took the ball before making any contact with the striker.

    Norris thought otherwise though. ”

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And there, Goldstar, we have the professional journos assessment of the incident where he manages to display an ignorance of the laws of the game he is reporting on.

Because Euan Norris awarded a penalty, the writer assumes it was to do with the timing of the contact the ball, when in fact, contact with the ball was irrelevant. This was the same incident where Butcher said exactly the same thing in his angry post match interview. Some one else who doesn’t know the rules of the business he works in.

  14. Good evening friends.

My, they are cutting a bit fine in selling Jelavic are they not.

I’d love him to stay – very curious to know how they’d then pay the bills. Hearing from a very reliable (employee) source today that Murray Park took a real battering from the recent high winds with the indoor facility completely out of use. Hope they’re up to date with their insurance policy.

Their game this coming Sunday lunchtime – it’ll be interesting to see the size of the crowd. Live on TV, SPL opposition, not on season book and £20 a head. If it were us I’d be hoping for around 30,000 – 35,000.

Presumably Hibernian have come up with an unabsurd amount of Claros to land the Honduran hitman.

This is reminiscent of the famous scene in frozen planet where the wee penguin is trying to build his ‘nest’ out of stones, and every time he turns his back another sneaky penguin sneaks in and steals his stones.

  16. RWE CSC- Take your point bud, but combined they managed to find in favour of Rangers in both incidents at Inverness. Yesterday, at no time was Hooper closer to the goalline than the 2nd last defender, the worst offside decision since, er, last Saturday when big Rogne was also the victim of a laughable offside at St Mirren.

Norris should have spotted that Mitchell got it totally wrong, probably explains why he was so keen to give the penalty.

  17. Big Sam just confirmed Jelly “too expensive”. So efforts to create a market an illusion.

I totally agree on yesterdays stuff. That’s what I get for stepping into a thread half way through it. I was using it to illustrate my own point on another thread about Ganea/JK/establishing intent, and how the pros don’r know the laws of the game.

  30. Delight as Pawel Brozek joins Celtic

By: Mark Henderson on 30 Jan, 2012 17:22

CELTIC are delighted to confirm that Polish internationalist Pawel Brozek has joined the club on loan from Trabzonspor until the end of the season, with Celtic having the option to make the move a permanent one.

The 28-year-old striker is another top-quality addition to Neil Lennon´s squad during this transfer window and will provide additional fire-power to the Hoops.

Pawel´s fellow countryman, Jaroslaw Fojut has signed a pre-contract agreement with the club and will move to Celtic Park in the summer, while Swedish internationalist Mikael Lustig and highly-rated Nigerian playmaker, Rabiu Ibrahim are already part of the first-team squad.

Speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website after completing his move to the Hoops, Pawel said: “I’m very happy because Celtic were very determined to sign me and it didn’t take a long time. I spoke with Lukasz Zaluska and Maciej Zurawski and they said only positive things about the club. So when I heard there was an offer from Celtic I wanted to go straight away.

“They said the fans are fantastic here, the top organisation of the club, and the great name the club has in the world. It’s all happened very quickly. It was a really nice surprise because it’s a big club and a big name in Europe.

“It’s a very nice city and a great place to play football. And there is a very good manager and coach. The team is very good and there are excellent training facilities.

“I knew before I signed about the club’s history, and the kind of pressure to win every game and the championship, so the history, the fans and the team and the determination of the club to bring me here were all reasons why I came.

“It’s also important that we have won so many games in the last couple of months and there are also plenty of chances to score. But I don’t like to speak about myself. I would rather show what I can do on the park and will try to do the best I can for the club.”
