Commons future beyond 2017

341

When Kris Commons’ new contract expires in 2017, he will be the same age Lubomir Moravcik was when he joined Celtic as a 33-year-old in 1998.  We now mock those who mocoked Celtic for signing the Slovak genius.  While this may be Commons last contract, if the player applies himself as professionally over the next two years as he has since arriving at Celtic four years ago, his twilight years will continue to be effective.

He is our fulcrum.  When you write Celtic match reports these days you find yourself sampling your Commons notes, whereas pretty much everything of note the rest of the team does is recorded.  He is not the most industrious and will not feature high on many recorded metrics, but he’s the archetypal Moneyball footballer: an over 30 and apparently the wrong shaped marvel.

Is there some way to offer people an offline facility so we don’t have to be bothered with some of the drivel where 2 groups take polar opposite sides of an argument and subject the rest of us to an afternoon or an evening banging it to death.

Call a timeout or tell them to exchange emails or something

The referendum debate , the upcoming election the rights and wrongs of the catholic church or any other religion – great debatable subjects, but on this site, non-stop – surely not.

I’m sure that anyone involved in any sport that has significant wealth would be interested in investing in Rangers after Sunday.

Certainly not because of the incompetent cowards employed by the club but because of us, the best support in the world.

The support last week delivered the best advert the club could ever hope for.

Nathan Goldberg spokesman for influential City bank Kleinwort Benson has reacted positively to the Rangers Board’s rebuttal of Dave King’s hostile takeover of the Glasgow giants.

“Hostile takeovers are pretty common in the City and in real terms, this is very small fry. As we see it, Rangers is a ‘dying man’ and the attempt to oust the current incumbents on the Board is an opportunistic way to get the club on the cheap. Unfortunately for them, they are taking on Mike Ashley who is a well known figure here in the City. I am afraid that Dave King and his consorts may be big shots in Glasgow, but down here they really don’t show up on the radar. One thing they need to understand is this, whatever Mike Ashley wants he gets and at the price he wants. Mike Ashley will of course do business with them and in time, they might even acquire the club but not with the current tactics they are employing. Based on the valuations and costs I have seen, Ashley won’t settle for a penny below £30 million. “

If anybody wants to see what happens when Big Arnie visits Motherwell then a wee Google of “SCOTTISH TOTAL RECALL” on Vimeo by Dr Weetabix might be in order.

I’m not posting the link as the vernacular is a wee bit strong in places. ;-)

  7. Unbeiliveable goings on on the South Side, all we need now is Gordon Geko to make a move. There has got to be a movie in this or perhaps it’s too far fetched for that!!! H H Hebcelt

I can’t stop laughing at the sheer magnificence of that Sevco-AIM statement.

Although none of it is new, it’s phenomenal because it is probably the first time the bare-naked truth about King (and his pal, Paul Murray) has been spelled out to the Foe Malign by their ‘own side’ – rather through the works of the mythical unseen fenian hand.

Till now, it’s all been tip-toe-ing around the elephant in the room.

All that was missing was a few paragraphs about the great pretender, David Murray.

But, hey-ho: it doesn’t do to be greedy …

  9. I think the Zombies have used up all the sugar daddies in the USA and with King being swatted today by the Newcastle 2nd string (Sevco), they’ve moved onto another fantasy wealth off the radar benefactor. Utter nonsense and they’ll believe it.

Some say he is a Myth.

Others say he is the manipulator of the Easedales.

Others suggest that he is big drinking buddies with Mike Ashley.

It has even been mooted that he is Peter Lawwell incarnate.

He is of course the Unseen Fenian Hand.

You seem to be fixating again . This time, its on a word “lose”. Hope I ain’t touched some hidden experience or trait ?

Now if you read back, I think I made it pretty clear, what and why I used the term “lose”.

You know, I appreciate you learn sometimes. For example, you’ve stopped abusing and swearing on the blog. That was good and I was genuinely pleased for your rehabilitation.

Maybe you could extend that and stop the repetitive mania ?

Go on, let’s see if you can avoid and not fixate on “lose”, “loser” or any other connatation of it.

  14. Just read the statement from The Rangers re King. Did they do a cut n paste job from CQN?

What would be really funny is if King wins … how can they then possibly have the brass neck to argue that he is actually fit and proper??

  15. Turkeybhoy

If I’m being honest – Id say VVD too good for SPFL and I’m astonished ( and pleased) he’s still at Celtic. He is in Wanyama class so I expect he’ll be a £10m exit in the summer.

  16. Just back on after a few hours and notice a few people have posted, in response to my thoughts on Kris Commons’ touch or lack of, citing Sundays goal as evidence.

Yeah, he took a good touch but anyone who has watched him in Europe or when operating in SPL even, must surely have noticed the times his touch deserts him resulting in lost possession?

To claim Sunday means he has a killer touch is like saying Bobo Balde was like Pirlo based on his 80 yard pass to set up Lubo’s goal all those years ago.

I can recognise Kris attributes but i’m not blind to his faults. He may have a great ball striking ability but he is certainly not a top level technique player.

  18. charliemac 15:53 totally agree with you, nobody is stopping debate just take it to an appropriate forum. HT and Neg2 can you two ghuys not get together over a beer/coffee and discuss ’til your hearts content -please! Hail Hail Hebcelt

  19. BCW now then you have left me in a quandary.

On the one hand you ask me questions about the word lose. Then say let’s see if I can avoid talking about it.

    Which way shall I go?

I actually have no problem if I lose a debate. As you say that’s how you learn and everyday is a school day.

Anyway moving away from the lose stuff. What did you think of the article I posted. I found it quite compelling evidence that some sort of deal was done?

  20. Anyone else noticed that the tag ‘the three bears’ has dropped off the radar.its all dave king…probably so the stock exchange dont look into collusion …or something…strange…

  22. Hebcelt I have asked BCW on numerous dates but he simply refuses. I am scarred now and never felt there was any of the right tension with HT.

Besides isn’t the notion that the Catholic church did a deal to accept the OB act of importance to celtic supporters?
