Contingency party arrangements

831

Those of you with a ticket for Sunday can wish for an Aberdeen win tonight all you like, but be ready with contingency party arrangements, just in case. I know it’s six-in-a-row, I know this isn’t 1998, the towns and villages of Lanarkshire will not be adorned in green and white, but don’t switch your phone on after leaving a cinema tonight to hear than an hour earlier Celtic became Premiership champions, season 2016-17.

Winning the title without watching Celtic play is far from ideal. Winning the title away from Celtic Park has always involved more stress than I thought is absolutely necessary, but I’m as excited today as any of you will be with your match tickets in hand on Sunday morning.

In 10 hours we could be champions again! Get ready for it.

Wee Shay’s Green Army

Lennybhoy and TommyTwistsTommyTurns are looking for volunteers to distribute fliers for Wee Shay’s Green Army Raffle (which will be drawn on Thursday 25th May 2017 at Celtic Park).

They are looking for volunteers to distribute fliers advertising the raffle ahead of the Partick Thistle game at Celtic Park on 5 April. If anyone can help, please email walkwithshay@yahoo.com .

Thank you.

Enjoy yourself tonight, I have a feeling……….

They usually sell that end out so it’s 8000 @ £49 less 8000 @ £25. That gives £192K less added expenses for Police, stewards etc so (usually about 20%) so they will get around £150k extra, not £392K.

  2. Think I’ve told you all before that my first Celtic game. I’ve never though told the story of how that came about.

My dad who had been and still is a lifelong Celtic fan worked away from home a lot when I was growing up. He work on ships as a mechanic sailing to the many ports around the world while my mum brought up my 2 older sisters, my younger brother and me. To be honest at that age I don’t ever really remember my dad being away for long periods and always have memories of him around. It must have been really difficult on my mum but thankfully she had the help of my gran a lot as she had been widowed on 12th July 1967, 3 years before I was born. My dad always said some of his last words were “at least I’ll not need to listen to those b******* playing today”.

Anyway, I’ve strayed a wee bit so I’m going to stray again. Before we, my sisters, my bro and me were born, my dad attended to watch Celtic, and occasionally attended with my mum and my gran, my gran loved the Bhoys. So when we were born my dad took to working away as I said previously to help with the bills. When he was home he did homers and eventually got a job with Nichol & Andrews just off Eglinton St. That job also took him away for 2 or 3 days at a time as he would be travelling Scotland fixing farmers generators. On the odd occasion we would all pile into his van if it was a just a day trip for him and get dropped at the local town or beach, during the school holiday weeks.

My first journey to Celtic Park happened on the evening of a midweek night when my dad had earlier returned from a trip away. The shows were at the white city just across from the Hunnery and Bella Park. My dad often did homers for the showmen fixing their generators, so on this occasion he took the family to the white city to enjoy the shows for free while he fixed the generator of a showman. It was about 4/4:30 by the time we got there. We had a great time on all the shows with the Walters being the family favourite as we all sat together getting spun for fun. My wee brother won a gold fish and my dad turned up with another 2 for him. So the family went home happy.

We got home, and my mum started the tea when my dad said not to bother for him and me. He had decided he was flush enough to take me to my first game. It must have been around 7 and as those days were pay at the gate it was a diddle just to turn up. I still remember the excitement speeding from Pollok to Celtic Park and then my first view of the famous ground from the main stand front right beside the dugouts. All my heroes playing and sitting yards from me.

Aye, ok it was against China in a friendly we won 6-1. But it felt like a European mixed with a World Cup night for me. As well as the football I counted all the cops, ambulance men, the wee blue cars that say behind the goals.

Turns out one of the cops walking past on the track was my neighbour, a nice big guy but a Hun. Don’t think he was having as great a time as me.

Lived it then. Love it Now.

I’ve been dead lucky. 27 championships I’ve celebrated. Fir Park 1966 was the best until Ibrox 1967. Sorry all you young chaps, history is something us old guys lived.

We’ve done it ourselves this season in greater style than ever before (since 1967). Sunday is a party either way, as is the Thistle game. Tonight I’m supporting Aberdeen. Give Sevco no oxygen whatsoever. Let the hosepipe flow freely.

    Loved that Brendan interview.

Somebody asked him what the high-spot of this remarkable season has been, for him.

He said: “The enjoyment of seeing players develop… and improve.”

That’s what Mr Stein always used to say.

    ======

If Dundee beat The Sheep tonight, I’ll be having a party till midnight on Sunday, the high-spot of which will be our game at Sunday lunchtime.

I want the title won ASAP, and if it’s tonight, all the better – we can have an Edinburgh Festival on Sunday!

    Good stuff mate.

I remember that China game. 1979?

My nonno (granda) took me and we walked all the way round the park at half time to watch the goals!!

Ps he also took me to Ibrox to watch China play the monkeys.

  7. As one of the lucky few with a ticket for Sunday I’d love for us to need to win on Sunday at Tynecastle to secure the title.

As someone who suffered through the ’90s I’ll bite your hand off to win it tonight.

The SPFL website with the Airdrie and the The Rangers details is farcical; the SPFL and the SFA not looking to remove trophies is a scandal.

The competitions run by the SFA and SPFL are affected by mibbery. However, the league competition itself is no farce; it has been fairly and squarely won by Celtic.

It was won at a canter despite the Hun establishment hoping the the zombie from Ibrox would win it. That’s why I will celebrate whether it’s tonight or tomorrow.

Every trophy won in my lifetime has been won despite these facts; I would suggest the same for all the trophies you have witnessed. The difference now is that it’s all out in the open.

    IMHO of course.

I remember that China game their goalscorer was called Bangwanin.

Regards the old board, my older sister worked as a P.A. to an accountant who represented at least one of our Lions.

Anyway she once told a story of the said Lion coming in to see the accountant. She was sent to the bakers to get some cakes to go with the coffee. When she returned the accountant and the Lion were already in the office together. She brought in the goodies and was introduced to the Lion by the accountant. My sister who could talk for Scotland proceeds to tell the Lion about our familie’s love for all things Celtic.

She’s invited to share the coffee and a few stories. The Lion tells her that every member of the old board had a nominated gate at Celtic Park and any “monies” collected at these gates were delivered to the nominated individuals.

Could explain why crowds reported always seemed lower than what was actually there.

This Lion had no axe to grind with Celtic although not in their employ at the time.

    KEEP THE FAITH

Thanks for the clarification about Airdrieonians.

I paid thousands to watch a rigged game, and it’s still rigged with that website, which tells us we are not Scotland’s most successful club, sneering at our non-objection.

Once bitten, twice shy for me, but hoping, probably naively, that a rejection of BDO’s appeal will maybe force the member clubs to speak out. But it’ll probably take supporters to force their hand, as they did successfully in 2012, proving that there is something you can do to protect the game’s sporting integrity.
