CVA schedule hits time crunch

417

There was a degree of anticipation that we would hear the official announcement today of the creditors meeting Duff and Phelps planned to hold on 6 June, where a vote would be held on the proposed CVA.  Creditors must receive notification of a meeting, with proposals, 14 days in advance, with notice normally given by post and by advertisement.

STV today revealed that the administrators hope to send details “at some point this week”.  Tomorrow is the last postal date for items to be delivered on time for a 6 June meeting, but it’s seldom administrators would leave themselves at the fortune of the final postal collection.  It would be embarrassing if Duff and Phelps were unable to even get to the stage of putting a proposal to creditors.

Inspired by the stories of three children, Celtic Quick News readers this year have raised a considerable sum of money for research into Neuroblastoma.  One of them, Niamh Curry, age 5, slipped away yesterday.    There are no words or sentiment of consolation to offer, but our thoughts and prayers go to Niamh and her family.

  1. Heartbreaking news about the little girl. Had first hand experience in dealing with a similar illness to my baby daughter, many years ago. Luckily she came through it.

You cant imagine what the family are going through. God bless

Mate just texted me that it 33 years ago today we attended the 4-2 game as a couple of teenagers, still the greatest night in my Celtic supporting life.

DC Thomson marketer JP Murphy receives threats from Rangers Fans afterThe head of brand marketing of DC Thomson, John Paul Murphy, has today come under fire from Rangers fans who have mistakenly identified him as the man behind the Rangers Tax Case blog, leading to threats also being made to his employer.

A post on the Rangers Media Website forum has asked for information on Murphy, with the author, who goes by the pseudonym Mr Struth, claiming that he saw Murphy receiving email notifications on his phone while travelling to work, with responses to posts on the blog.

The Rangers Media forum post, which included links to Murphy’s Twitter feed, his Linkedin account and a story on The Drum website to highlight his picture, also claimed; “The guy then sent a text to a number asking if he was any further forward with ‘digging’ on Green and an email saying a new blog had to be up soon.”

As a result of this post, Murphy has received abusive tweets from Rangers fans, while DC Thomson is also received threats this morning, The Drum understands.

While Murphy was unavailable for comment, he has tweeted in response; “So apparently I’m @rangerstaxcase! What lovely folks. Invasion of privacy? Definitely. Laughable conclusion? Absolutely”.

He has also said that he has also received anonymous phone calls at his work, but has said that he is yet to contact Police over the matter.

This is not the first case of media intimidation over the reporting of Rangers financial plight in recent months, with Channel 4 chief news correspondent Alex Thomson claiming to have received violent threats from a Scottish sports journalist, while The Daily Record’s Hugh Keevins has also said he has been threatened in response to his coverage of the story.

Anyway, being impatirnt, I actually went back to Monday 13th February when you uttered the famous words ‘There are not words powerful enough to describe today’s news. ‘ Then I copied every post since then (except ceratin game reports) and what a read that gives! Good Afternoon,

I arrived home last night from the fair City of Barcelona to be told of Niamh Curry’s Passing. I knew that things were not going well and that there was angst and anguish in the Curry household, but I did not know that things had taken such a grim turn for the worse.

Let me again make it clear to one and all, I did not know Niamh, nor her family, but after the Vanessa campaign I was told of a little girl called Niamh who had been campaigning for funds for lifesaving treatment in the same way as Vanessa. The Curry’s had been campaigning for longer, but could only look on in amazement and with a degree of astonishment as Vanessa’s campaign grew wings, took flight and soared.

That bothered me a wee bit, and so I started to throw Niamh’s name into the Celtic ether and I have to say that yet again the response from people was an inspiration– not only in terms of money pledged but just in terms of the responses and comments made supporting the idea that you should help a wee girl that none of us never knew.

My trip to Barcelona was to be a joyous one, full of a guys weekend banter, many pints and glasses of Rioja, a trip to the Olympic Stadium to see Mr Springsteen and the E street Band, The Camp Nou, and basically take in good company, old friends and all in a great city to wander through and around.

Tragically, one of our number learned that his mother had passed away while we were flying out. He had obviously to return to his family just as quickly as possible and as he left he took his parting with the words “Sorry- I’ll see you in better times!”

Niamh Curry will see better times in a place away from this world– after all in Heaven everyone is 5 years old and everyone has their own puppy dog.

I have no idea how it would be to be her parents, or her aunt or uncle, brother or sister– but they too will see better times and happier days…. in due course.

For those of us who are more than a few paces away from such loss I can only think of three sentiments, and I am going to borrow from someone who is far better with words than I could ever hope to be to express two of them.

The first is the sense of sorrow and remembrance and the clip at the top has all the words you need to hit the spot.

The second is that the rest of us have to continue to fight and shout and make noises about Neuroblastoma– for all the Vanessa’s, Oscar’s and yes Niamh’s of this world and the world beyond. So there will be days in the future when the Neuroblastoma plea for cash goes out, or for a signature on a petition etc– and at that point do what you can. Please.

Lastly— I am touched by the expression of “thoughts” for yours truly here. That is very kind… and I mean no disrespect at all when I say your thoughts would be better concentrated on others who are more deserving and in need of a wee hand in the game of life. My glass is always half full— photographic evidence tends to prove that— and besides there is never just the one glass!!!

So my last thought— and my thoughts are worth no more than the thoughts of anyone else I hasten to add— is on what big George said as he was leaving Barcelona. “I’ll see you in better days!”.

A Group of friends. A Family. A group of football fans- even the faceless ones behind a keyboard— even a group of friends who have played in a band for years- MES QUE UN CLUB— as my recent hosts would say.

All of us in times of trouble and sadness are just “waiting for a sunny day” as Bruce would say: Great Words

It’s rainin’ but there ain’t a cloud in the sky

Musta been a tear from your eye

    Everything’ll be okay

Funny thought I felt a sweet summer breeze

Musta been you sighin’ so deep

    Don’t worry we’re gonna find a way

I’m waitin’, waitin’ on a sunny day

    Gonna chase the clouds away

    Waitin’ on a sunny day

Without you I’m workin’ with the rain fallin’ down

Half a party in a one dog town

I need you to chase the blues away

    Without you I’m a drummer, gir,l that can’t keep a beat

And ice cream truck on a deserted street

I hope that you’re coming to stay

I’m waitin’, waitin’ on a sunny day

    Gonna chase the clouds away

    Waitin’ on a sunny day

Hard times baby, well they come to tell us all

Sure as the tickin’ of the clock on the wall

Sure as the turnin’ of the night into day

Your smile girl, brings the mornin’ light to my eyes

Lifts away the blues when I rise

I hope that you’re coming to stay

So for Niamh ( up there ) and her family and everyone else, here is Bruce ( and a kid to represeent Niamh ) sending us all a message…….. just waiting on a sunny day.

‘The need for a single body to oversee the game became apparent at the beginning of the 20th century with the increasing popularity of international fixtures. FIFA was founded in Paris on 21 May 1904; the French name and acronym remain, even outside French-speaking countries. The founding members were the national associations of Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain (represented by Madrid Football Club; the Spanish federation was not created until 1913), Sweden and Switzerland. Also, that same day, the German Association declared its intention of affiliating through a telegram.

The first president of FIFA was Robert Guérin. Guérin was replaced in 1906 by Daniel Burley Woolfall from England, by then a member association. The first tournament FIFA staged, the football competition for the 1908 Olympics in London was more successful than its Olympic predecessors, despite the presence of professional footballers, contrary to the founding principles of FIFA.

Membership of FIFA expanded beyond Europe with the application of South Africa in 1908, Argentina and Chile in 1912, and Canada and the United States in 1913.

During World War I, with many players sent off to war and the possibility of travel for international fixtures severely limited, there were few international fixtures, and the organisation’s survival was in doubt. Post-war, following the death of Woolfall, the organisation was run by Dutchman Carl Hirschmann. It was saved from extinction, but at the cost of the withdrawal of the Home Nations (of the United Kingdom), who cited an unwillingness to participate in international competitions with their recent World War enemies. The Home Nations later resumed their membership.

The FIFA collection is held by the National Football Museum in England’
