Dangers of a league without whipping boys

792

At 1:45 yesterday afternoon the prospects of Celtic stretching their lead at the top of the table by the end of the day appeared slight.  The tide has turned in Celtic’s favour in recent weeks but leagues are hard to win and we need only think back to how many chances St Mirren peppered Fraser Forster’s goal with to appreciate the difference between winning games and dropping points.

Teams in the SPL are well organised, even eighth place St Mirren, who are on a run of poor form but apart from a couple of lapses defended well, created more chances than Celtic and played with adventure and confidence.

Celtic are the best team in the league but there will not be a single game before the end of the season in which they will be able to take anything for granted.  The result from yesterday we should pay most attention to is bottom of the league Dunfermline’s 0-3 win at Kilmarnock.  This is a league without whipping boys.

i have sympathy for your position

however we have had many occassions when the laws were not followed in the fashion they were yesterday

that is , i believe the problem …strict interpretation against CFC and lax against the others

also if the linesman considered that the others were interfering with play the flag should have gone up as soon as the FK was taken

  2. Yesterday’s Game….

Ledley is our best pass and move midfielder so once Izzy is fully fit I expect hi.m to go central and make a huge difference along with Commons

  4. Zbyszek at 21:04

I agree with you on the Rogne “goal”.

PFayr – it is only when Ledley (?) tries to head the ball that he is active, so the linesman was correct to flag when he did in my opinion – though it was about the only correct decision he made in the game.

  5. nothing without fans

i think we are all guessing here ……

he could just be a cheating bam

  6. Kojo

Neil did get the starting formation wrong however he did make early subs and tactical change.

This is a positive sign that he is learning from past experiences so he should be commended.l

  7. PFayr

No. The referee can’t rise the flag before the ball touches the player or ground. He made is well.

    Lardo66

I was joking. Polish commentator said it was right decision when I watched the game yesterday. I remembered that, that Rogne made step back. My memory was wrong. Clip clears why it was off side.

If i have 1 regret from another great celtic weekend…. it would be forgetting to go to the bookies saturday morning…. i read a post on here Friday afternoon telling us to put a Celtic 2-0 (6/1) win and the orcs to draw 1-1 (11/1), i could be in sunny santa ponsa with that kinda return for £20 on 2 singles and a double… does anyone know the poster and if so can you ask him next weeks lottery results… i have a good feeling!!!

HH and goodnight, up at 3.30am for Aberdeen tomorrow

Yep that concerns me but there’s no choice if you’re applying for tickets unfortunately.

I agree, once Ledley made the move towards the ball, he was actively interfering with play from an offside position.

Like that one that was chalked off when Hamilton scored against us last season.

It was chalked off wasn’t it?

  11. Zbyszek

I think it was a wrong decision..but it must have been difficult for a linesman to see through a cluster of bodies and comprehend that the one of 3 or 4 moving players that headed the ball was the only onside player.

Howevah…it was also the culmination of a number of earlier errors. Perhaps we can put that down to high winds and poor weather? Hmm…

  12. Z

    sorry

i don`t agree with your interpretation

anyway doesn`t matter , thankfully it didn`t have a bearing on the result

  13. cheers lennybhoy i have next monday booked off so the sunday club here i come! :) BTW totally agree that lennon is learnin that if it isnt workin he has to make a decision earlier.. this was my only criticism of him last season. I remember a number of occasions sittin in the bar watcin the match wondering why it was takin him so long it used to drive my mate mad thats the beauty of havin everyone fit now he has more options…. great to see commons back

You may be right but check out this goal, from last week – 41 secs in – and explain please why that isn’t offside http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=/&gl=GB#/home

    Kojo

Our starting formation wasnt right. Not sure why we feel the need to change our set up so much. Call me arrogant but I believe our best players played in their best positions are good enough to beat every team in this league home and away every day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

  15. I wonder how stewart regan sees the almighty mess rfc have got themselves in. I wonder how he sees it playing out and what his gut feeling is on the punishment they should receive.

  16. I wonder what the explanations are for the following decisions Andrews gave/did not give-

    Penalty Claim

    The clear corner not given

Ledley being tripped off the ball in front of him

The clearing header that Broony let go out for a throw- only to be given to St Mirren.

  17. Z

I think you’re probably correct that when Ledley, who’s in an offside position, makes an attempt to play the ball then he becomes active and is therefore deemed to be offside.

What we’re looking for is consistency.

Last week the huns scored a goal where a player, clearly offside (Healy), makes a movement towards the ball. This should also have deemed him to be active and subsequently offside.

The linesman didn’t flag, jellylegs put the ball in the net and rangers were 1-0 ahead.

  18. Ok I will give my Broonie preference in this midfield.

    Vic

    Commons Ledley Broonie James

Commons and James wide but not wingers with Broony and Ledley room to penetrate in the old right/left half positons.

Sammi and Ki to sit and if Comons tires Sammi wide left to run at them

  19. Malarkey at 21:20

An misunderstanding, I think. The linesman did not watch (did not have to watch) where was Rogne. He saw two Celtic players on off side positions. When the ball was played in that area, close distance to the goal he rose the flag.

    the long wait is over

Looks to me it’s wrong link that you posted.
