Deadline day is as it should be

Deadline day is as it should be.  Celtic have completed the business which they hope will see them through to the title in May (or April).  There is a sub-squad of peripheral players who may get a loan, while Giorgos Giakoumakis is expected to leave for Atlanta in the North American closed shop.  The MLS window is open until April, which introduces an anomaly for Celtic to consider.

With two in and two out in defence, a striker in and Giorgos probably heading out, the first team squad is net up a central midfielder – Tomoki Iwata.  Without closing doors on development opportunities open to our recent additions, it is hard to see the value in adding new bodies without others going out.

  1. 7am eastern time can mean only one thing.

It’s podium hunting time. Good weather for it as well. -4 and snow on the ground.

    HH!

  2. Yes indeed. Planning for next season isn’t just about getting bodies in early – get the league in the bag as early as possible and get on with getting proper game time for the new players

Another brilliant window. Well done Celtic. Huge improvement from what we saw for many years. Really creative and financially impressive. Significantly fan expectations around popular players moving on have been managed expertly. Ange and Michael Nicholson (and Mark Lawwell) have formed a formidable team.

    Summer football?

When would the season start? When would it finish?

Would the rest of European football be expected to follow suit?

    ———–

We could easily emulate the Swedish model. Season from Spring to Autumn.

Why would the rest of Europe be expected to follow Scotland when they didn’t follow Sweden.

    HH.

PS : Swedish teams fare not too badly in European football.

Good afternoon all from the Crystal Palace. Awaiting the arrival of Leggy and Brian M. A right pair of philosophers. 😂

I thought Maeda was unlucky with the last minute header from Oh’s superb cross. It is much more difficult to head a ball that is coming up off the surface than one coming down on to the head. Maybe if he had some hair on his napper it would be easier to get better contact with the ball.

my take on Oh was that he seemed to like to rummle them up!

That was my impression too . Expect some early ‘soft’ yellows from our esteemed officials in an attempt to restrict his effectiveness . He will learn to deal with it though , once he’s used to the subtle nuances of Scottish Fitba’ .

Re transport to and from the game tomorrow I will be getting the 24a bus across then the either my son will drop me at Ratho or the 900 bus from Buchanan st will and 747 back over to Fife then a wee walk up the hill.

Hopefully enjoying a good victory and laughing at the huns.

2 defeats for them between now and 8th April could see us wrap the league up at home v them. They have hearts livi Aberdeen and Hibs to go to in that time.

Sounds like no Colin Kazim Richards coming in then, Paul? :-)

We have come a long way in a short time under Ange. Hard to believe it’s only two years since Jonjoe Kenny was the latest in a long line of random signings.

Now we actually have a defined style and recruit to fit. Just a pity it took so long to get there.

Personally I think it’s the best. You may prefer mon era. For me we won less than rangers then and didn’t play as good football as we do now.

It’s all about opinions though. Yours is as valid as mine.

This is the article where somebody will post, but we should be getting rid of ‘the deadwood’ and the squad is still ‘bloated ‘

I totally get your point that it is easier for those folks who are not working to go to the games but honestly do you not recall making every effort to manage work and partners and other life issues to ensure you could get to games. I think most folk back then did that ?

I do recognise that we are are in more of a consumer vs fan era and that folk can watch it on their screens at home which we could not back then.

Personally (not alone in this I think) I would rather put up with 5 or 6 hours sleep and be at work Thursday because I hope to watch the huns get beat and our highlights when I get home too !

  14. my problem with this window is Peter Lawells interference with an obviously bloated squad and the deadwood not yet moved on.

Oliver Abildgaard is close to sealing his move from Celtic to Aalborg.

The Danish midfielder is on the verge of finalising a switch to his homeland on an agreement until the end of the season.

Abildgaard has rarely featured for Ange Postecoglou since signing from Rubin Kazan.

Aalborg chiefs are ready to make the 26-year-old one of their top-paid players to secure a transfer.

Sources in Denmark have confirmed Celtic will cancel their agreement with Abildgaard to push the deal through and it is likely to be concluded shortly.

Sporting Director Thomas Bealum is set to beat off competition to deliver manager Erik Hamren the player in a huge deal for the North Jutland outfit.

  16. For the first time in years, Radio Scotland is doing a Transfer Window programme until 1am……is it because Sevco are bringing in a couple of loans?

  17. The league is in the bag, that’s some going to be able to say that in January.

The question is can we add a Cup or two between now and May ?

I think we can and will.

We’re clearly the best side in Scotland but the huns are clearly number two. Our league is extremely poor and I’d expect the huns to mount a serious challenge next season because they can beat the rest comfortably.

Nothing to fear, but next season will be much closer. So for now, I’m enjoying a relaxing title run in.

  18. This new ‘get the business done early in the window’ approach at Celtic is all very well, but it denies to some of the younger fans some classic nostalgia-inducing stuff such as “We need rid of……….he’s just not Celtic class” and the never-to-be-forgotten “I’ll drive him to the airport masel’ “.

See? It’s not all good news.

  19. heard it from my taxi driver cousin, his pal works up at celtic park and they have been called in to put up the barriers around the front door, so something is happening later …………

who is covering the airports and ross hall ?

Sweden has historically had a winter break,it now aligns perfectly with their exclusion from most CL groups. In that sense it joins us and most football outside the top5 viewing nations.

I am not for a change of seasons we would be excluded from most tourneys or international tourneys would get in way.Chaos to ensue on less and less money.

    McCarthy, an incoherent signing.

Guchi, proof that even Ange can’t get it right always

Abildgard. He came, he played and looked really slow. Looks to be gone.

Welsh. No longer a child and dropping down the list fast with Lawal promoted and Iwata’s versatility.

Bain and Hazard. Not a legal firm. Just 2 ordinary keepers.

Thought a Rogic-sized CAM was needed but very happy not to be reliant on last minute punts for the push.

    Three trophies to play for.

Not an expert by any means, I’ve read Chelsea are able to spread the cost over the length of the contract which is why they’re giving out 8 year deals.

UEFA I believe will now alter the rules so Clubs can only spread the cost for a maximum of 5 years.
