Duffy: “What goes on behind the scenes”

643

“Not many know what goes on behind the scenes”, Shane Duffy’s words on Instagram as he said his goodbyes to Celtic yesterday.  Arriving a year ago as a 28-year-old international with years of English Premiership experience, he looked like the ideal addition to the Celtic squad.

Whatever ailed Shane to prompt Brighton to move him on, a year in Glasgow, much of it in isolation away from family and his kids, did nothing to help.  His parting sentiment alludes to some of his challenges has endured off the park.

If footballers would only be machines, nothing like this would happen.  Competitions would resolve in a manner the aborted European Super League would approve.  Shane was physically fit and desperate to be a winner at Celtic but still came off the rails. You can bookmark him for a reflective piece when his career is over, I expect he will tell a familiar tale of the toll life’s pressures took.

Yip, still no news.  No, not a good sign.

Quite relieved we have no game this weekend, watching them has been torture for most of this season, a season like no other, I cant ever recall feeling like that before, even thru the old rangers 9, I still always looked forward to seeing the bhoys play. The people running our club seem clueless, either that or they simply dont care. It’s got to be double D, he must be calling all the shots just now and the stone walling is very much his style. A club like no other, for sure, no other club would leave their fans completely in the dark for months.

  2. James Forrest article suggesting that some fans have had season ticket money taken from their accounts. Checked my bank and no sign of that.

Surely, surely not. That would be totally Hun behaviour. They never would, would they?

  3. Contacting a few mates to see if there accounts have had money stolen by CFC.

    Will advise shortly.

  4. I have just applied for planning permission to make my house 25 stories high instead of 2.

I don’t think it’ll go through but my thick neighbours think I’ve got plenty of dough.

Well my brother pays by three installments , has done for years, nothing has hit his account!

  6. If you’ve had money taken from your bank account without your permission you should contact the police and the Daily Record immediately.

If I don’t want to renew then I’d need to inform Celtic or cancel direct debit. Seems like a non story.

Ivan Toney top scorer ever in Championship with 31 goals. Could be in the EPL next season with Brentford or a much bigger club fir £35M plus. Great job, Peter!

Hmmm..’Bitton on the brink’, so I’m told.

Aside from Ajer and Taylor (who gives 100% every time he plays but is simply not good enough to play for Celtic), I reckon they’re all on the brink because they don’t have the brass neck to run out to a full Celtic Park.

  13. Rocktreebhoy- yeah, never heard good ole bhoys ‘n ghirls talking about cletic like thy’ve talked about celtic during this season ! weird times

25m for OE, 20m for Ajer an 10m fur RC.

    Nae boora mate!

(No laughing at the back please)

  15. Ivan Toney has 31 goals in 49 this season, 22 in 49 without penalties

in the last 12 games excluding penalties he has 2 goals from open play and 1 assist

in the last 16 excluding penalties he has 4 goals from open play and 1 assist

He’s obviously a good lad who works hard for the team, and he could have shown the scoring form with us he showed earlier in the season at Brentford but there’s also the possibility that he wouldnt have been the saviour.

  16. take away penalties and teemu pukki has a better scoring rate this season

  17. But…………….Toney was the ……………..savior…………..awbdy knew that………………if only weed sined ‘im.

Oh and he widny hiv hud many penalty chances wi’ us.

    If only………………..

  18. its difficult to tell for sure from line-ups on transfermarkt but it looks like he stopped scoring from open play when his role changed from being the only striker in a three to playing in a two up front.

So a simple stat like 31 goals in the championship doesn’t tell the full story about how he’d have done in this Celtic team

  19. CELTIC40ME

How many fouls against him per game against how many fouls against him he widny have got here.

With the general malaise at our club, it’s hard to say if any signing would’ve performed…the problems ran deeper.

What I am convinced by though, is that he would’ve contributed far more than Ajeti.

However, as previously mentioned, what’s done is done and we need to make sure our recruitment is spot-on over the next 8 or 9 months.
