Dunfermline statement on Rangers

1133

This evening’s announcement by Dunfermline Athletic that they no longer expect to receive timely receipt of the £80,000 ticket money Rangers FC PLC (in administration) owe them will heighten concerns at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who have a stock at tickets with Rangers right now, money for which will be received by the administrators in advance of their game later this month.

The administrators have yet to decide whether to retain high-earning players or make more funds available for existing creditors, and future creditors, like Inverness.  As ticket sales for the Inverness game are on-going, the administrators will need to be aware of their legal position before retaining a premium squad.

One final push (this week) for the Vanessa Riddle Appeal. We have a Celtic top signed by the first team squad available to auction on eBay. You can bid on the auction and help send Vanessa for the treatment she needs by clicking here. Thanks to Penfold for the donation and to Taggsybhoy for organising (yet again).

Got chatting to a lad from Norn Iron ….knew a lot about the game

Big Southampton fan (hmmmm) and right into Go-karting as there is a track at nearby Blackbush. Did you know Clarence Seedorf once had a professional go-karting team blah blah blah

    I’m just smiling and nodding

Finally he canny resist it and asks if I have a favourite team

“Aye…and my favourite pudding is Jelly & Ice Cream”

Glad to see the bhoycott idea back again for the forthcoming game at ibroke, why would you give these “beggars” your cash and endorse the LL views that for Celtic supporters playing Rankers is all that matters, i wont even watch the game on Sky

John McFall wants the FSA to probe Craig Whyte’s takeover of Rangers

The former chairman of the Westminster treasury select committee has called for the financial regulator to probe Craig Whyte’s takeover of Rangers.

John McFall said the Financial Services Authority (FSA) could help answer questions about an apparent shortfall of cash at the Ibrox club.

Rangers appointed Duff and Phelps to act as administrators on Tuesday.

The firm has denied having any conflict of interest arising from its links to Craig Whyte prior to his takeover.

Rangers was placed in administration on Tuesday after a legal stand-off at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

Owner Craig Whyte lodged papers at the court on Monday indicating that the club was considering administration within 10 days.

When HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) – one of the club’s main creditors – filed to have its own administrator appointed on Tuesday, both parties agreed that Duff and Phelps would be appointed.

Joint administrators Paul Clark and David Whitehouse, from Duff and Phelps, later confirmed HMRC’s action stemmed from the alleged non-payment of £9m in VAT and PAYE dating back to last year when Mr Whyte bought the club from Sir David Murray.

Shed Tears for Taxpayers Not Rangers fans.

Sympathy for Rangers, a giant brought to its knees, is natural. It is also utterly misplaced. We should be saving our sobs for the hard-pressed taxpayer. And, next time we are up in arms over a public expenditure cut, we would be more justified in marching on Ibrox than Whitehall, because many millions are likely to be written off.

Administration is no fun for any club, and can be a bitter blow to innocent employees, but it is still a relatively easy way out for the owners responsible and fans who have been only too happy to celebrate the achievements of players the club could not afford, as in 2008, when Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth won the FA Cup.

When Portsmouth went into administration, a group of supporters admirably settled debts to charities, but most go unpaid and taxpayers – including the majority who have no interest in football – are often hardest hit. With the public purse in crisis, it was reassuring to see the taxman get tough with Rangers.

Let’s hope the authorities are equally rigorous in dealing with English clubs suspected of paying players through trusts. There is also the question of fellow clubs. Terry Butcher, the Rangers legend now managing at Inverness, says they are owed a tidy sum. And what is the footballing sanction? Ten points. Enough to take Rangers out of a title race they would probably have lost to Celtic anyway. But they need have no fear of relegation. Nor that regeneration will prove as challenging as for, say, Leeds.

The temptation is always to find a demon in the boardroom and, in this instance, Craig Whyte has slipped into the role once filled by Peter Ridsdale at Leeds.

But the supporter should not evade a degree of responsibility. The club I love, Dundee, went into administration twice and were docked 25 points.

Many fans moaned – but the public purse lost hundreds of millions. We now own the club and one day, I hope, we shall pay that money back. We don’t have to. We Shoul have to.

My daughter works in a local unit for people who have suffered from serious head injuries and one of her daily duties is to read through the sports headlines for her patients in the hope that she will garner some kind of response from them. She started this job in December and has had trouble eliciting any kind of response from one gentleman in particular but, yesterday, as she read out news of Rangers’ recent travails and entry into administration, the taciturn one, after two whole months, at last found the will to speak :-

Fundraiser of the month: Vanessa Riddle appeal

We know the prospect of hitting a fundraising target can be daunting at times, especially if you’re raising money for the first time. So we thought we’d get some tips from some amazing fundraisers who are already using JustGiving to raise extraordinary amounts for charity. February’s fundraisers of the month are Chris and Connie Riddle. With the Vanessa Riddle appeal, they have used every tool available and reached out to a huge community, raising £330,000 so far.

In February 2009, a then eight‐year‐old Vanessa was diagnosed with stage 4 (high‐risk) neuroblastoma, a very rare, aggressive and difficult to treat form of cancer.  After many difficult and often painful treatments at Yorkhill Hospital, Vanessa got the all clear in August 2010. However, in December last year came the devastating news that Vanessa had relapsed.

Vanessa’a parents, Chris and Connie, now hope to take their daughter to the United States for relapse therapy treatment , which will dramatically increase her chances of long‐term survival. But this treatment is likely to cost more than £500,000.

With the help of Neuroblastoma Alliance UK, Chris and Connie began fundraising and in little over a month, they have raised well over £275,000.

To raise such a huge amount of money in such a short period of time, it’s important to reach out to a wide community and use every available tool for your fundraising. Vanessa’s appeal has done just that.

By using the power of social media, Vanessa’s story has reached thousands of people. It has been shared by 32,000 people on Twitter and 6,000 on Facebook.  Text donations have also played a huge part in the appeal, with over £18,000 being raised by text message alone. What’s more, Neuroblastoma Alliance UK have created a team page, allowing anyone to join and help raise funds for Vanessa’s treatment. Over 60 extra fundraisers have set up a page to help with the appeal, taking them £43,000 closer to their target.

Vanessa’s appeal page is a great example of how to boost your fundraising. Here are our top 3 tips to help you get the most from your fundraising too:

Use social media. Sites like Facebook and Twitter are absolute gems when it comes to fundraising. Using our Facebook app or sending out a quick tweet with your page address publicises your page to all of your friends and followers. Ask your Facebook friends to share your page with their friends and your Twitter followers to retweet your link too. You could reach a whole new group of potential supporters.

Get a JustTextGiving text code. If you have a fundraising page on justgiving.com, you also have a text code which you can personalise in your account. Now any of the 50 million mobile phone users in the UK can sponsor you anytime, anywhere!

Start a team. Ask your friends if they want to fundraise too and help you reach your goal. You can set up a team, linking all of your pages and showing a collective total of just how much you have all raised together.

If you would like to help the Vanessa appeal, you can donate at justgiving.com/vanessa-appeal or by text, texting VANY99 and an amount (either £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10) to 70070. You can also fundraise for the Vanessa appeal by joining the team at justgiving.com/teams/vanessa-riddle

Much appreciated if anyone can direct me to that.

  25. Why all the venom for Salmond and only praise for McFall? Salmond merely suggested that keeping them going is the only way to get all the tax they owe. McFall suggested that the Scottish Government hould actively intervene to help them through administration. When asked directly if that meant giving them cash he said he didn’t think it would come to that, cucially he did not rule it out. Shameful. Carry on voting Labour though don’t let mere facts get in the way.

If Fat Cousin has officially sign a contract for Tax Dodgers FC but is not registered to play in the SPL does that means the Huns still have to pay £7500 a week for him for the rest of the season for sitting in the stand? Good bit of business for Ally and Craigie boy there!

  27. Listening to Mcleish [henry] what a chancer and this guy was part of a review of Scottish future they still dont want to confront the core issues here and I hope Celtic have indeed a robust case prepared to stop this nonsense in its tracks, if not we GTF from here
