‘Emerald’ Green aims for Champions League

1007

There was some misunderstanding that Charles ‘Emerald’ Green’s suggestion that he was hoping to “invest in the playing side right away” might not play well with major creditor HMRC.  Capital introduced to the company after a CVA has nothing to do with a creditor’s assessment of the offer and, if anything, would offer comfort to HMRC that the company would be able to maintain future payments.

The comments are more of a challenge for the football authorities.  The independent SFA appellant panel will today assess whether to increase, reduce of remove Rangers 12 month player registration embargo.  Rangers narrative for the last two weeks is that this embargo could put them out of business.  Apparently, they need to spend MORE money in future to ensure survival.

It remains to be seen if playing victim does them any good at appeal but Green has brushed this away, Rangers now plan to put a team on the field to win the league and reach the Champions League.  Maybe not the wisest PR move.

John O’Hara, the Celtic secretary, had been unable to lure Kelly. Glass, however, was indefatigable and said he had ‘camped on his doorstep’. The 22-year-old was talked into taking part in Celtic’s first ever match, a 5-2 win over Rangers. ‘No Kelly, no Keltic’ became a catch phrase summary of the towering centre half’s significance. ‘I knew that if I could get Kelly, the rest would follow’, said Glass.

Obviously it’s like comparing apples and pears.

It’s the old boots that got me, I remember the first pair I had, they were like steel toe caps, how these guysplayed in those things amazes me.

The balls were dreadfull, especially in the wet, the pitches were like ploughed parks when it was wet, but they could play football.

Our little experiment was to prove that the blokes from years gone by were better at their game.

Football is completly different, the fittnes today is of a much higher standard, I can only imagine what some of the greats would have been like if they were around today.

    Interesting stuff all the same.

Been a couple of times, my nephew & his wife live in Lisbon. The place is locked up, guards usually on, so no chance, it is sill used for Portuguese cup finals. I was lucky, my mephews wife is Portuguese, she spoke to guard, got to dressing rooms, up tunnel & on to park etc, no bribes! The point being, get your mate in tow with a local who may be able to sweet talk way in. Hx2

Went to Istanbul last summer and visited the stadiums. I was nauseated to see that in the Fenerbahçe shop you can buy t-shirts with the chairman’s face on them (he was at that time languishing in jail on corruption charges). While I can imagine a place for a Fergus t-shirt, I don’t really think it’s a good thing in general.

Far better was Besiktas, quaint little stadium, real old style floodlights and I got right on to the pitch :)

I also done the Sporting and Benfica tours. Me and my son wore the full kit and to be honest Benfica made a bigger fuss over us than Sporting, my son initially wanted the Sporting hoops but after the tours he wanted and got the Benfica kit.

You are correct in filling up, emotional etc, spent over an hour there with my wife, son and daughter, and on that day in August 2007 on my 40th birthday there was nowhere else in the world I would have wanted to be.

Might do it again for my 50th, also visited the teams hotel in Estoril, what was it called Palacio something…..

  11. Sparkleghirl….I’m sure we could make do with a wee Craigy White t-shirt. ;)

Fenerbahçe ran out 4-0 winners but it was still the Bursaspor fans making all the noise. Great to watch. Plus, remember the way they mobbed Kenny Miller in adulation at the airport when he signed for them? They obviously have a great sense of humour too.

Would have loved to see a game but the start of the league had been suspended because of the corruption investigations.

I did however get a glimpse from outside of a UEFA game against Alania Vladikavkaz. besiktas won 3-0. Had I known in advance it was possible to see in from outside I’d have gone along to watch. Instead I just passed by a couple of times on the road above. Next time maybe.

Also saw the site of the old Ali Sami Yen and went to have a look at the all new Turk Telekom Arena. Talk about security – guards on the approach road

as everyone else is ignoring you I’ll reply. I understand their appeal hearing started at 6.00pm (and hopefully ended at around 6.01pm) but the feeling seems to be that the decision won’t be announced tonight and might even be delayed until after the cup final. Something about civil unrest.
