Familiar demons

358

In any other season, the three points would have been secured by David Turnbull’s exquisite free-kick on 82 minutes, but the fragility around everything Celtic at the moment convinced no one the game was over.

A Hibs free-kick in added time saw three Celtic players get in each other’s way on the goal line, leaving three unattended attackers ready to pounce around the six yard line.  Another free kick conceded in a dangerous area, another example of defensive disorganisation and another tale of woe as Hibs scored their first goal and collected their only point in four games.

With Ryan Christie unavailable, David Turnbull moved to the right, allowing Tom Rogic a rare start in the advanced point of the diamond.  This may have worked on paper but on the field, it only demonstrated what a valuable asset Turnbull has become in the middle of the park.  15 minutes after moving into his accustomed 10 position, Turnbull won and converted a free kick that should have been enough against a Hibs team low on confidence.

Instead, the demons that haunted Celtic for most of the season returned.  Diego Laxalt conceded the free-kick, Turnbull was beaten to the header, Conor Hazard flapped at the second ball before Shane Duffy and Callum McGregor simultaneously attempted to clear, only managing to usher the ball in the direction of Nisbet.

After the game, I realised I felt worse after we equalised in added time against Hibs in November than on losing a late goal last night.  The points dropped in November felt significant, I cannot say the same about last night’s.

    Cheers Scaniel,

Gene gave me some info on him too.

Always good to learn of other Celtic minded folk in football.

  2. Had the quickest of scans back to see if anything grabbed my attention, saw a post re the Death Penalty.

Just a few minutes previous had read that 2 Executions in the US scheduled for this Thursday & Friday have been postponed to allow the prisoners recover from Covid.

Indeed. It’s like they’ve been told never to apologise for anything no matter how shameful.

  4. Oh, and protest songs…..Neil Young’s OHIO

Apparently he went into the woods after hearing about the shooting by the national guards of 4 students protesting against the Vietnam war….he came out an hour later with “Ohio”. Genius.

The truth is, on here it depends on who is doing the critising.

Some ” preferred” posters can say anything and the ” clique” will swoon in admiration. Certain posts have been condoned with rules flaunted because the poster is part of the incrowd.

While hoots and golf outings are very nobel, they should not determine blog content. It is a forum to discuss Celtic and beyond, it definitely should not be a personality contest.

Playing the poster and not the post has been a long running saga on CQN, I would not let it get to you.

    Keep posting what you feel.

    HH to you.

Thanks for the comments, just try to be honest with my views, I realise we cannot agree on everything but it’s clear that there is a definite hierarchy within the blog. I could not give a toss about that and will continue to post my thoughts and views.

Edinburgh lad James Connelly got treated enough to survive to be executed in Dublin. Been years since I did the Kilmainham Gaol visit but i seem to remember the head of some commerce org in Dublin loudly lobbied for him to be shot due to his union/Labour activities as the Army deliberated letting him die of his wounds.

Also likely that a bloke in the pub told me that; I’ve also realised over the years that the bloke in the pub was myself making stuff up and then remembering it as FACT!

  8. We all wait for Paul’s article absolving Brendan Rodgers of blame for the circumstances that led to his departure and demonising started on this site. Hopefully he will also realise who really is to blame for the disaster the 10 season has been. A disaster waiting to happen the minute the best manager we have had since Jock, was forced out the door. Lawwell is the rat, doing his master Desmond’s bidding. Come on Paul. Get on board.

    NOT A PENNY MORE.

Give it a rest with the Celtic tried to keep Rodgers settlement quiet fallacy.

You’re suggesting the club would breach Stock Exchange rules and open itself to charges of insider trading. On the record submissions are 27th Feb 2019 – manager’s away immediately, 18th Mar 2019 – material compensation received, increased profits expected.

This isn’t the first time your inaccuracy has been corrected.

Chairbhoy – smarter than your average chair? Well, football’s a game of opinions.

  12. SCANIEL – Protest Songs

MY all-time-favourite Protest Song is ‘Deportee (Plane crash at Los Gatos Canyon) by Woody Guthrie.

Substitute the word ‘Deportee’ for ‘Immigrant’, ‘Taig’, ‘Fenian’ etc., consider Trump’s wall, and the words are every bit as powerful today as the day he wrote it! 😊. The more things change, the more they stay the same! 😊. (Perhaps another future Anthem for the Green Brigade? 🤔)

I first heard this in the 60’s from my late and much-loved Uncle, Colin Henderson (who taught me my first 3 chords on guitar) . 😊 At that time I was way too young to understand the true meaning of this song, and was more interested in the exotic-sounding ‘Rosalita’ 😊, but now it is one of my favourite songs to play. 😊

Here is a beautiful rendition of this song by Ani Di Franco and Ry Cooder:

    Enjoy! 😊

Take Care, Keep Safe, God Bless and Hail Hail,

    Yours in Celtic, 😊 🧣 🍀

Statements originally presented as speculation are now being presented as factually accurate and evidenced when they’re not.

Some of the posts are just plain lies and eternal moaners.

  14. CHAIRBHOY 11:12:

You are either confusing my post at 8:12 with other posters or deliberately spinning nonsense to attribute claims on BR that I didn’t make nor think.

What I actually said was that Brendan Rodgers was in discussions with a club in China in early summer of 2018. The DD article and quotes confirm this as fact.

I also said that the Celtic board were were taken by surprise on this. Again, DD is quoted as saying that BR told him about the talks and offer from China so this isn’t social media rumour. I also heard it from someone who worked for Celtic at the time and I have no reason to believe why Celtic wouldn’t be surprised by BR speaking to or wanting to speak to a club in China in early summer of 2018. This is well before John McGinn went to Villa.

Finally I said this was the beginning of the end for BR and Celtic. Again DD confirmed this in the article. He said it was then inevitable that he would eventually accept another offer and took steps to protect the club and renegotiating BRs terms with a get out clause and fee (all above board as you said).

I’ve not blackened anyone’s name with social media rumour. The DD article backs up my original post.

    Take it easy. Hail hail
