Fit & proper waste of time

760

The proposed SFA rule change, that clubs must conduct an investigation into prospective new owners, went through unopposed at the Association’s AGM, currently underway at Hampden.  No formal rules must be observed during this investigation, not even the ‘Gandhi criminal rule’ postulated by (still) SPL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, so a club can look into the matter as deeply as they see appropriate and the former owner can claim he was “duped” after the money appears in his bank account.

This does not strengthen efforts to keep unfit people from owning Scottish clubs, if anything, it provides errant clubs with a defence.  Previously it was explicitly the club’s responsibility to ensure owners were fit and proper, now the club’s responsibility is limited to carrying out an unspecified value judgement.  Tune in soon to hear “We carried out an investigation consistent with best practice, why punish us?”

In this instance, value judgements are worth as much as Ibrox valuations. It’s not the rules that are wrong, the only problem is one club didn’t respect the rules and doesn’t like the medicine.

No mention yet of the dark Fifa cloud hanging over the Association. Perhaps it’s slipped their mind.

Absolutely, and at the current Euro exchange rate the ban on 22 and over is exactly the same for 18 and over in the UK.

UEFA president Michel Platini confirmed the rule preventing players from leaving the field without the referee’s permission would stand – even if they are the victims of racism from the stands in Poland and Ukraine.

Mario Balotelli last week threatened to walk off if he suffered racist abuse during Italy’s Euro 2012 games, but Platini said the Manchester City striker would be punished for doing so unless the officials stopped the game.

“It’s a yellow card,” Platini said at the tournament’s kick-off press conference in Warsaw, which was completely dominated by the issue of racism.

“We’d certainly support the referee if he decided to stop the game.

“It’s not a player, Mr Balotelli, who’s in charge of refereeing. It’s the referee who takes these decisions.

“So, the referee has been given advice and he can stop the game if there are problems.

“We will stop the game if there are problems because I think racism is the worst of this.”

    ……………….

Liar liar pants on fire! there is no effin way the ref will abandon a game

  5. I find it almost inconceivable the self-policing ‘fit and proper’ test has been voted in unopposed by ALL the SPL clubs, not one of them, and that includes Celtic thought it necessary to protect a club’s fans from entrepreneurial chancers.

It appears the SPL clubs have little appetite for regulating themselves and it must raise doubts about how earnest they are in bringing sanctions against any errant member club.

  8. Poland and Russia have had a long and frequently turbulent relationship and there have been reports that Russia fans plan to march through Warsaw prior to the clash on 12 June.

However, Blaszczykowski urged his side not to become distracted.

“The first step is always the most important step, and the first step is the Greece match,” added the 26-year-old, who helped the Dortmund to the league and cup double.

“I can’t hide the fact that this is the most important tournament of my life.”

Poland manager Franciszek Smuda, who took charge in October 2009 after they failed to qualify for the World Cup, added: “It’s up to us to give our all to clear the group hurdle. That in itself would be a great success for the lads.”

Poland kick off against Greece and Gorgeous Samaras on Friday. 100/1 Greece to win it when they did not lose a qualifier. Good each way bet.

Seems the SFA hun attitude of act with impunity is still very much their main motivation.

But I’d bear in mind there have already been complaints from members of other other UEFA associations about the EBT ineligible players issue. Neither this nor the illegal court action the other week are going to be ignored by UEFA or FIFA. How would Sion react if the same approach wasn’t taken as was against them? I’m more inclined to think the SFA are grabbing more and more of that rope, cos they are, after all, infested with stupid huns.

There’ll be no zombie hun FC in the SPL next season, just the salt n sauce ones.

  11. I’ve never been a fan of this ‘fit and proper’ malarkey. If you commit an offence in the business world and serve your time is that not sufficient? Murray I’m sure would have sailed through such a test and look what he was capable of.

Whyte was barred from holding directorships but the ban had been lifted when he bought rankers so no issue there. It falls on his fellow board members to ensure he pays tax etc. and if they don’t, tough titty.

The important issue here is player registrations. No amount of SFA spin can avoid the fact that they have contravened the FIFA/EUFA rules as well as the current SFA statutes (which can, of course, change to suit the orcs)

Fraser cleared out his locker at end of the season, not a good sign. If Green walked away, which he has, WHU were in the hunt but they are being linked with Jasskalinen (spl). Fraser want to play for England but is having seconds thoughts as he was overlooked for Euros. He wants down to London where his girlfriend lives.

Kojo I said a good while back that whatever the rules say should happen should happen, whether you are in a bottom division of an amateur league or top division of a European league rules are rules I don’t have to like it but cant complain about it. To me the biggest losers are those like myself who over the years have given a fair chunk of income into the Ibrox coffers and didn’t realise we were being duped. (and I don’t use duped in the sense our former chairman does)

I fully understand the anger among other clubs
