Five games to make their point

260

If Eddie Howe wants to learn about Celtic before taking charge as expected on 1 June, he will have plenty of scope to see how they perform in challenging environments.  Between now and then, we will play at Ibrox as often as at Celtic Park, with trips to Easter Road and Pittodrie and the possibility of two Hampden dates thrown in.

With no undue disrespect to Livingston, win, lose or draw, there is little to be learned about how we perform against them at Celtic Park on Saturday, there can certainly be few positives for our prospective new manager to take away.  After that, we have Ibrox, Pittodrie, Ibrox, then hopefully a Scottish Cup semi-final.  Those who want to be part of his plans going forward, or who want a move south, will have their stage.

There are a few at Lennoxtown who think they could have done better this season.  Prove it in the next five games.

    Football contract-years as I understand it generally date from 1/6 – 31/5

    It’s possible Howe has delayed taking another job,as he could be on gardening leave, with bonuses he’s accumulated over the years,maybe he’s good to go on 1st June.

    It’s becoming more Eddie When than Eddie Howe!

    Would have hoped to have seen him at the club sooner rather than later so he could assess the playing squad and get a grip on what his requirements for next season would be. Can only do that to an extent from a distance.

    Come on – get this done!

  4. I suspect by 1st of June, a lot of our want always will be away!

    We really don’t seem to be on the front foot here at all.

    I’d be really interested to hear some suggested starting 11s for our first game of next season. A number of our competitors probably know theirs already.

    A first year student, with an excel spreadsheet, could throw together a player amortisation list. Players turning amber then red as their contract runs down (or in the case of loanees)

    It all seems very reactive

    Thankyou much better idea, thanks to An Tearmann for the suggestion.

    Now at least we’ll know when it has happened even if not why.

  6. “However we are but twenty-miles from the main body of Europe where, because of their anti-British agenda, a violent third-wave is sweeping through the continent. Had they followed our lead on vaccination, this would not be happening. The UK approaches 60% vaccinated, the EU stutters towards 20%.”

    So the mask slips further now confirmed its brexit credentials, apparently the third wave in Europe is a punishment for being anti british, does this punishment impact everyone or just the 17%? Your gradual unmasking and move to the far right of your daily express postings are hilarious.

  7. Shooting boots and structured defending required to win the cup.

    I think on reflection Howe is best left until June at least officially. I would assume he would be consulted on player recruitment before then.

    I think the suggestion is that the situation on mainland Europe is a consequence of the actions taken/not taken ,by various European governments and their respective populations, which is hard to argue with.

    No one has suggested it is any sort of punishment.

    Frankly only a weirdo would think along those lines.

    The reality is that the UK government took a gamble on ordering vaccines when they were still in development and that gamble has paid off. People in the UK have benefitted from that.

  9. Mods. Thanks.we will know and if your line is seen its offblog to e-m address.🖒

    HH .

  10. Based on what has happened since October last year, the only thing that anyone watching Celtic closely as the season winds down will observe, is that there is fundamentally something wrong within the squad.

    With Scott going the whole central core needs replacing – Keeper, centre-back, centre-midfield & centre-forward. Add in two full-backs and a left-winger and the size of the rebuild becomes apparent.

    Howe, if it is him, has a tough job on his hands. Our revenue for this season will probably have dropped to c£60m & so we can expect c£20m loss, which will wipe out our bank balance. With some Covid crowd restrictions still in place, there will be no real increase in revenue next season – how do we balance the books? Will we only spend what we raise in outgoing transfer fees? What will those fees amount to? Will we sanction going into ‘real’ debt? Where will we raise that debt?

    If Howe has taken the job under these circumstances, he is a brave man.

  11. because of their anti-British agenda, a violent third-wave is sweeping through the continent.

    Definitely a weirdo by Ernies logic.

  12. HotSmoked,

    Rumours of PL interference starting to surface——Howe wants to pick his own Team. Could be the reason.

    Will PL end up on the board ?

    In your article you say “as expected 1 June “ as a start date. Whose expectation are you referring?

  14. I hope Soro will be given a chance. We beat Lille when he came into the team (Lille have just beaten PSG to go top of the French league again). He looked a real player. When he came on as a sub against Falkirk he constantly passed the ball sideways to SB. Is this what he has been coached to do?

  15. !!Bada Bing!! on

    HS- some bookies pay out after a temporary manager is in charge for 10 games, Kennedy will reach that if A N Other,doesn’t start this season.

    Thanks to you ,too and it helps make sense of the fact that JK has shortened to 5/4.

  20. Uncle Jimmy,

    Assuming rumours are true, we face losing:

    All our loanees (Laxalt; Duffy; Moi; Kenny);

    Brown;

    Eddy;

    Ajer;

    Bitton;

    CalMac;

    Christie;

    Rogic;

    Klimala;

    Barkas.

    Ntcham, Hendry, Bayo, Shved and Bolingoli will return from loan but won’t hang around.

    Ralston, Ajeti and Griff will probably be for the off ski too, leaving us with no strikers.

    Julien looks like he won’t be back until the autumn.

    Bain

    O’Connor; Welsh; Julien; Taylor;

    Forrest; Soro; Turnbull; Shaw; Johnson;

    Afolabi

    Subs: Hazard; Connell; Henderson.

    Big rebuild needed – a new goalkeeper, new back 4, 3/4 new midfielders and 2/3 new strikers – effectively a whole new starting 11! Let’s hope we pull in a lot of cash for our departing players and Howe has a list of good value players that come in early!

  21. I’d say that our ‘performances’ against Livingston so far this season have been all too instructive.

    Struggling to cope with them home and away, at a time when every match had to be won. The latter fixture being against their weakened team, as they rested players in the hope of silverware.

    Scott Brown’s panto cameo was our season as a metaphor.

    Livingston have overachieved just as much as we have underachieved.

    Do you believe we’ll have a new manager in place for the start of next season?

  23. Paul 67,

    So has Eddie Howe agreed to sign, or

    Is he still unemployed and open to offers.?

    Do we have our man or not ?

    Does he have prior Euro 2021 tv contracts.?

    Are ST renewals in some shape or form going out late ie 01-06-2021. ?

    Looking in, it’s so amateurish.

    While it would be silly not to give the tories due credit for the vaccination program, it is certainly also true that they have grossly mismanaged the rest of the coronavirus epidemic. the bottom line as from today

    Cases 4.36M

    Deaths 127K

    Is Julien not one of the want aways? I think he is and wants a bigger salary like the others.

    I am a little sick of the made up stories about Howe and the so called in the know pundits like Frank McAvennie and Alex McLeish. Know nothings more like. Celtic are operating quietly and no information is coming out from club sources. The only info is that the new CEO will come early in order to shadow the current CEO. This is good news for the new man who will be introduced to the football world by an experienced Executive. I reckon that it would be good for the club to have Peter Lawwell on the Board as non Executive Director. However, he may have other plans and it might not be a goer.

    John Kennedy has 6 games minimum to make an impact which will stand him in good terms in the future. I expect to see some improvements from the Non Triers and Want aways as it is in their interests to put in some good performances for their future career at Celtic or elsewhere.
