Football bites you in the bum if you are not ready

231

I was a bit surprised so few first team players participated in the opening preseason friendly against Pinkafeld yesterday.  We are in Champions League qualification action in 12 days and there are only two friendlies between now and then: against Wiener SC in Saturday and St Gallen on Tuesday.  There is a lot of work to do in those two games.  Lincoln Red Imps impact on our collective memories is still fresh, I hope the same is true of Neil Lennon, who was freshly installed at Hibernian at the time.  Football bites you in the bum if you are not ready, as Neil’s fellow-Irishman, Brendan Rodgers will attest.

Our Champions League opponents, Sarajevo, were also in action yesterday, losing 2-0 to Slovacko, who finished seventh on the Czech top flight last season.  Results count for nothing in these games, which are all about fitness, but you would rather see an opponent struggle to score and keep clean sheets than to prosper.

There is a very good chance we will add at least Christopher Jullien to the squad before facing Sarajevo, I’m not convinced we will add any more in the coming days, not that we could expect a new arrival to go straight into action so soon.

  1. The hands cant hit what the eyes cant see on

Luca Connell is 18. He is surely signed for the future and not now.

We need some experience for the first team. The French CB fits the bill.

  2. Some still fretting about a RB.With most players still on holiday, everything will be going through agents.Time consuming.Nothing to do with us that the window opens at a terrible time for us,if you want some quality that is.Maybe wrong, but I think we missed a trick with Arribo. Our focus was on Turnbull.Arribo,at around £ 3 million less,I think we could regret.I hope not.All quiet on Harper.Maybe waiting to see about Ollie, but time flies.

    ___

The guy has played a dozen or so games already professionally. I don’t believe he’s signed to start every week but I’d expect him to be an integral part of the squad.

I don’t see the logic in any McNair deal. We have Christie, McGregor, Bitton, Ntcham, Brown, Kouassi, Mulumbu & Henderson on the books already.

We seem to be linked with a lot of central midfielders despite having a lot!

  4. God Bless Celtic.

Celtic is a Club that perhaps has his Blessing.

The likes of CRC certainly are from the Almighty.

I really enjoyed the Donegal Paddy jibber jabbering.Disagree with so much but what do I Know?

£70 A WEEK and Jock told him wisely to gie the £1000 signing on fee to his Parents.

  6. quadrophenian on

Good news with big Kris and big Chris in the centre of defence.

Listen to Lenny when he tells us CJ is not his pick – “It’s a player that we’ve identified for a long time, even before my time here.” So was he Brendan’s, Lee’s or Peter’s…who cares if he’s Elliot-esque or Bobo-esque!

To TURKEYBHOY’s point, I couldnt help but watch the Aribo reel on YT; he does look a tidy ball winner at Divi 1 level.

I hope Gutman gets a run and I thought Savoury looked quite a tasty player when he replaced Tony R.

  7. Wan thing that REMAINS with me bein’ a Brexiteer is WITNESSING Celtic beside Brendan and him Lamenting the ack of Support.

NFL – You ain’t seen nothing yet.

    Incredible.

IMO Stevie G should take a job down South. The Establishment couldnae beat Neil.

    Neil is in Tune.

  10. !!Bada Bing!! on

AC Milan papped out Europa League for financial irregularities….it will never catch on…

  11. Well done the Celts…

Like the look og the big Gallus lad.

    Two 6ft 5inches CHs.

Would it be greedy to want Benkovic back too?

  12. Neil Lennon is a different kinda Animal.

Stevie G respects Neil, I’d Hazard a guess he despises Brendan,

    Noone knows Anything?

Leigh G has just backed Brendan Rodgers to the hilt. Respect Leigh.

I am a very selfish person I want 11 home grown Celtic players in the First Team.

  13. BIG WAVY on 28TH JUNE 2019 11:59 AM

Haven’t got any up to date information but there are deals being worked on. £7 million spent plus the wages and we haven’t sold anyone yet, although that will change AND there will be further money spent. Not bad for a Club that is downsizing.

    Until we meet again…

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

    A Massive Signing.

  15. More good news!

Contacted Celtic yesterday re. the farcical plan for a parking embargo within 1 mile of Celtic Park next season and asked for an update on what is happening. Very efficiently I received the following reply almost by return:

“The parking embargo will not be in place for the start of next season. There is no further update on when/if it will be in place.”

Has the idiot who came up with this in the first place been sent back to his/her village?

  16. According to the BBC shortbread website article I have just read our new £7 million centre half Julian is ‘weak on the turn’.

So says some french expert the bbc were delighted to quote.

Thank god we have the BBC to report such crucial negatives about our second biggest ever signing and one of Scottish footballs biggest ever.

Looks like he will be no Basil Boli.

  17. lazydynamite,

The BBC is a Bullshit organisation.

We are on it under Lenny.

    Unfinished Monkey buisness.

  18. Listen up and Listen Good…………………………………

Original and still the very best.

Neil has a whole Fenian Army and so much more behind him now.

  19. Great signing.

If we signed Messi the BBC shortbread would say he doesn’t track back.

  20. This is good news. We are actually signing a player we desperately need in the position he plays in. If you know what I mean.

  21. A bit like when you go shopping [which I hate].

You find yourself buying far more than you intended.I am told there is some kind of ‘buyers rush’ or ‘high’.

Lets hope Celtic fc are about to have their first mini spree in a wee while.

  22. at last positive news on transfer front , maybe we will have to change our defensive shout ‘ma ball Kris/Chris’ to stop any confusion in our defensive ranks.

  23. Over the 57 years I’ve followed Celtic, we have always played better when we have had a settled, solid central defensive pairing. The 2 centre backs needn’t be world beaters, just solid defenders. We made last 16 in CL with McManus and Caldwell; we beat Barcelona with Ambrose and Wilson. We looked brilliant with VVD and Denayer.

Lets hope we see a partnership of two from Ajer, Julienne and Simonovic.
