Greenock, Argyle St and what Celtic Movement is all about

949

We are only two days away from the 9 in a row CQN Open, which again takes place at Aberdour Golf Club in Fife.  This year our guest of honour is Lisbon Lion, Willie Wallace.  We have already raised over £2000 from a shirt auction and raffle (thank you very much to all who participated) but we have a quick opportunity for you to win a signed Celtic strip in a raffle, ending on Saturday.

Tickets cost £1, if you can afford £1, get involved here.  Proceeds go towards 1254125, which is a crucial part of orientating the Celtic Movement in the direction of our founding fathers.

Willie Wallace will be at the Celtic Store, Argyle St, for late night shopping, from 5.30-7.30 pm tomorrow (Thursday) night.  Where you can buy a signed copy of his book and have a chat with the man himself.  Bring a camera.

Immediately after leaving the Celtic Store tomorrow Willie and Brogan Rogan (and a pile of books) are heading to the Greenock Celtic Supporters’ Club for a CQN Question and Answer evening.  Entry costs £2 (all of which is going to our charity causes).  DON’T FORGET YOUR CAMERA!!

I know many of you have read Brogan Rogan but if you’ve not seen him and Willie Wallace in action, get along tomorrow, it will be another classic Celtic night.  Tickets are available at the door.

Thanks to everyone who helped organise all of these events, more on that later.

No me. I hate the SECC. Good chance theoriginalsadiesbhoy Is going though. He’s a completely unreconstructed NY nut. I did go to see him in 1993 at SECC. The venue is horrible from every point of view.

    Yes indeed

Squire-ess has seen him on several occasions including the old Wembley Empire Pool in 1982 on the Trans tour

Other people I knew who had seen that show report the more bemused shower of hippies you ever saw – all stoned oot their faces waiting for the old stuff and he comes in wi the voice processor thing singing Transformer Man

Seen him three times myself twice wi Crazy Horse backing him and the other time Booker T and the MGs

Magnificent live performer – looking forward to it

Auldheid-would be interesting to see ,who at UEFA rubber stamped the huns licence?

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

They did more than rubber stamp it. The question is why and what were they told by SFA to allow them to give it free passage?

    ==========================================

It’s entirely possible that the rubber stampers at UEFA don’t care enough to check every bit of paperwork from every association, that the vast majority at UEFA don’t really care who or what Rangers are/ were and that as long as the national association does the paperwork properly then all will be put through without much interest.

I just don’t think that UEFA give a toss. I don’t know if anyone has brought the situation to their attention. If they have there is also the possibility that people at UEFA either don’t care about a third division scottish football club OR the reach of the funny handshake is without national boundary (I wouldn’t rule this out by the way).

If anyone anywhere is to take this seriously then the volume on the scandalous nature of it has to be amplified. Outside of Scottish footballs backwater I don’t think anyone really cares enough yet. An angle would need to be found to get them interested, they need a reason to care, they need to be aware of the precedent they are setting.

Sorry for butting in by the way.

Much as I hate the venue Neil Young is no ‘so called rocker’. Legend, and nowadays every performance of his is special.

  7. Squire d..,

Went to that Wembley one with the missis, me a buddy at it who told me that after the gig, some geezer called Nilsen tried to sort him out with digs, lucky for him his mammy always told him not to talk to strange men.

  8. bonzo – let us know how Neil does – enjoy the show,

Bummer of a weekend for me tho :-)

  9. Only ever seen him once but that wasn’t with crazy horse .i will be one of the sados waiting for some old ones. Although his last cd was a belter in my opinion

I read on here recently someone said that memberships of the SFA do not have unique reference numbers – you are either a member or you are not.

I.e Celtic are simply members of the SFA, not for example, member number 1223244.

If this is true, then the transfer of membership is bullshit.

Rangers lost their membership when they died.

Sevco, righly or WRONGLY, without having any history or accounts were given a membership of the SFA.

    Two completely seperate events.

As regards the “associate members” issue. As far as I understand it, they are associate members of the SFL not the SFA.

    ==============================

Musically most of them are reaching their prime post 40 – years of playing, working audiences etc

If it’s just attitude and stage antics yer after then fair play. But the likes of Bruce Springsteen is still giving it every ounce and is musically better than ever. Quo are a fantastic live band, plenty of others too. Some I would say are just turning up for the dough, but I wouldn’t rule them all out…….

  13. by the way there are many many young singers, rockers, musicians I wouldn’t cross the road to see. some i would actively pay to avoid listening to.

Read stuff on line about tour – F Sanpedro suggesting that he and other Crazy Horse members think this

may be the last time for them

Ole Neil has medical complaints which are taking longer to recover from after each show

Neil Young is Walturd Nosurname’s favourite singer/musician/rocker.

    Nuff said.

  17. Dr&rt,

Record labels dictate what you hear, aye some auld codgers are still no bad but then listening to oldies but goldies is hardly on the foreskin of rock roll now is it ?

There are tons of young bands I wouldn’t cross the road to see either, but then again there are tons of young bands no getting the chance cause of dinosaurs clogging up the airways with “classics” innit.

Real rocknroll stars die at 27 choking on their own vomit for crying out loud :oD))))

  18. Will report back Pete. Probably wont be able to recall the full set list though.

  20. Green Lantern (((((0))))) on

True. Not NY’s fault but I’m glad I don’t share the same taste musically or in any other way as the Cardihun.

  21. Friesdorfor @ 20:27,

Maybe jumping in the middle to make a muddle as haven’t read back but my understanding…

    ECA membership can’t be transffered

    ECA membership can’t be inherited

ECA membership can’t be given to a Club outwith their Coutries top tier

ECA membership can’t be given to any Club without a UEFA Licience

The ECA understand that RFC went into administration then liquidation

So how do Newco qualify for membership? Here’s the deal…

Rangers were founder members, all founder member can keep their membership in perpetuity.

Now they understand SevCo Bought the goodwill of Rangers and the SFA granted them OldCo’s Licence, now as the SFA membership is the same number the SevCo as a continuation of the original Rangers.

The original rangers were founder members therefore can remain members, as they do not fulfill any of the other criteria for membership they were demoted from Ordinary membership to Associate membership.

So it was the good aul SFA and Scunner Campbell issuing the same Licence that allows SevCo to claim they are the same Club.

    Hail! Hail!

  22. Grant Russell ‏@STVGrant 51m

@esta_x @JohnDCGow This isn’t confirmed yet but it does seem likely Rangers would have voting rights and be equal share holder.

  23. Drwhat…,

If you don’t die before you get old then yer no a rocker, best laugh was rt, they are just reaching their prime after 40, really means they are just learning to play their instrument of choice, but still no good enough to get into a serious musical band like a philharmonic orchestra, so they just pay real musicians to make them appear like real musicians
