Griffiths with a point to prove

267

I know Leigh Griffiths has more experience behind him that road ahead.  He may prove to be a challenge for Ange Postecoglou to manage (although I would not assume so) and I would hope he is not first choice striker for Celtic ever again.  However, if we need a goal in the qualifiers, at McDiarmid, or in a Hampden cup final, and things just don’t seem to be happening, you know Leigh can change games and seasons.

His story is fundamental to our second nine-in-a-row, the last season in particular.  His commercial value is significantly less than it was when his last contract was agreed; Celtic’s option to extend for one-year would have flattered him.  The one-year deal announced today is almost certainly at a lower rate, but right for Leigh and for Celtic.

If athletes perform best with something to fight against, Leigh will have the words of Neil Lennon injecting his veins with adrenaline.  He has a point to prove, watch him do it.

Very saddened to hear Macjay has passed away. We never saw eye to eye on many things but his love of Celtic was never in doubt.

    Rest in peace Macjay.

  2. If we sign Nisbet for 4 million without entering into a Mexican standoff with Hibs then I will believe that things in the boardroom have changed.

This is chump change for a championship team so if he is our top striker target, let’s get it done and quickly.

  3. Sad news about MacJay, may his soul R. I. P.

    JE SUIS @ 10:33 PM,

    “old firm” you say

Yes, it is my strong belief that the Celtic PLC Board rely heavily on this model, they need sevco Rangers for two main reasons…

    i) Domestic competition, it sells SBs, TV rights and all other merchandising and monetising of the bigot buck

ii) Ultimately the huge pay day for the shareholders is when Celtic can move to a “higher” league, they’ve been working hard to join the EPL, European super League or some type of Atlantic League. Having the old firm Derby in those leagues (think our realistic ambition is second teir now) would help “sell” the proposition while ensuring the Scottish cash cow continues.

    Hail Hail

Always enjoyed his posts, even those I disagreed with. And he loved the Celtic.

RIP Macjay & condolences to his loved ones.

RIP Macjay . A familiar name over the years I’ve been on here . Don’t know what he would have made of the current level of in-fighting .

Hot Smoked, I was not questioning the intellectual capability of Macjay merely pointing out how incredibly bad the written English of our resident Scottish hating racist is when he is not cutting and pasting from his right wing blogs. Also his efforts to ingratiate himself by faking a relationship with Macjay makes me sick. He’s a horrible creature.

Not sure if passes the ‘proper’ English standard from when i was at school but ‘cleverer’ is in general use in media, press etc so may have become accepted over time or was always correct.

RIP, very sad news and particularly so considering that he had moved back to Scotland for a new phase in his life. He used to talk about the Glasgow Uni CSC days of his youth and the West End in general so it a comforting thought that he was back with his ain folk and his old stomping ground

Really hope the rumour is not true. £4m for Nisbet when we were offering up a couple for McGinn?

Replacing Eddy with Nisbet. There must be far better value on the continent.

Rolling Stone, totally agree but you need a scouting team to find players abroad we apparently use Sportscene.

If language becomes generally used, does it become acceptable? Should it?

I don’t know if it’s ignorance or an intentional abbreviation but I have noticed in general the increasing use of the word ‘of’ instead of ‘have.

    e.g. “should of”, “could of”.

Rolling stone, who like Bayo? Ajeti? Or another 4m untried striket we could waste our time and money on?

So many bad examples of us trying this and it not working.

£4m for Nisbet is crazy money when you think what our average transfer spend is.

I think Ajeti will be good this year. Just another player lost in Neil’s squad.

Also ‘Get the scots in’ is the kind of parochial BS that we need to get away from. It’s up there with ‘he knows the city’ nonsense.

If Kevin Nisbet turns out to be another Joe McBride or Willie Wallace I’m happy to shop local . As well as abroad of course.

There are a few teachers and ex teachers on here who should have the definitive answer.

The ‘of’ thing rips ma knittin. Seems to be a young/online/text speak thing but could also be people typing things they normally say but never write down.

I recently joined a Celtic fan FB page which has a wider and younger demographic than CQN. The lack of punctuation, grammar, spelling etc (and loads of ‘of’), literally gives me a headache. I jovially pointed this out once and was reprimanded for being a Uni snob. I replied that i was only having a laugh in trying times and this apology was accepted. I was being economical with the truth!

My main place to talk Celtic online has been CQN since 2004 so my chagrin with forums is a compliment to the standard of posting on here from everyone.

    A+ 😎

Still on the transfer theme , I see the rags favourite ploy of the moment is to pick a player we have been falsely linked with and report gloatingly on them signing elsewhere .

  19. For a bit of fun on a Friday and with Osaze Urhoghide being Ange’s first signing; how many first signings can we remember from our managers? I don’t have the answers by the way

I am not a teacher but I do watch Countdown on C4 occasionally, though not for much longer if they persevere with the talentless Anne Robinson.

The Word Guru, Suzie Dent, says that most modern Dictionaries will add the definition that a word takes through common usage. We don’t have the French equivalent of an Academie Francaise to set protective standards, so anything goes, like , like.

A perfectly good word like “Presently” used to have a distinct meaning from “Currently” but mis-usage of the former to mean ” at this time” rather than “soon”, has led to it being accepted as a synonym for currently.

    I prefer the Uxbridge dictionary from “I’m Sorry I haven’t a clue”:-

Disposition- Where I am at the moment

Exposition- Where I used to be
