    After all of the filmed violence at the sheep v dobbers match yesterday and the bottle thrown at SS, the Beeb decides to lead with Hibs will bill Celtic for 80 broken seats in their sports gossip- propaganda of the highest order

  2. This broken seat squirrel is just that, a squirrel as for years seats must have been broken by drunken over exuberant fans and we do not hear about as there was an unwritten rule that you send the bill to the opposing club and they pay.

    Why all of a sudden do we start hearing about it now????

    ‘Eire sat on the fence . To its shame.’

    ###

    Any shame to be attached to Eirie or some elements of the IRA for their stance during WW2 pales into insignificance compared to that to be attached to the Catholic Church.

    “Dear Kitalba debunked nothing.

    I backed off in view of our friendship.”

    That would be your verdict on the result. I fear it is not shared widely.

    ” The enemy of my enemy ” is my friend.

    Which means Ireland was a friend of Hitler`s.

    Really?- the subtleties of this construction escape you? In fact I stated “The enemy of my enemy is often mistaken for being my friend”. That mistake was quickly rectified by the vast majority of Irish people and the Republican movement and the IRA when truth emerged about the nature of the regime early to mid 30’s, much earlier than it did for the Daily Mail. Your own link to the Irish Times article makes the same admission, albeit grudgingly, as the author has the self awareness to see how this undermines the more overblown parts of the argument.

    Only part of the IRA was involved. That`s OK then.

    It was only a few of the lads on a day out .

    No.

    In fact , plans were laid to attack N.I.

    OK- of course not- but we are dealing with your general charge i.e. “The IRA backed Hitler (and the blackshirts- you stated)”. If you merely want to state that SOME Irishmen or SOME Republicans or SOME men from the IRA, however high ranking, were anti-semitic, temporarily pro-Hitler, willing to hold their noses in doing business with Germans for arms, desperate not to go to war FOR Britain again after their WW1 experiences, or even loyal to the end , such as William Joyce, then you are entering the area of defensible statements and grown-up debate- not the world of overblown statements.

    BTW- I made plans to marry Candace Bergen- they were as realistic.

    Howsabout the postwar permission for Nazis to find sanctuary in Eire ?

    Including some serious Nazi criminals ?

    As did the US and Britain and Australia- you might have read some of the post-war trials of those discovered.

    Moseley`s blackshirts. Ex Labour party socialist Mosely ?

    Yes- but the meaning of that prefix -ex was surely explained to you at one point.

    You choose to insult the Daily Mail . A British newspaper .

    Britain fought against the Nazis .

    Yes- I plead guilty again. But when the Tory Party defends itself against attacks by presenting them as anti-British attitudes, I can see through the childish rhetoric. The Daily Mail opposed the fight that Britain fought until it became expedient for them to shut up and pretend it never happened- much like the Scottish Press did with the liquidation of Rangers.

    SOME of the IRA fought with them.

    Fought WITH them, you say? Fired shots – did they?

    Eire sat on the fence . To its shame.

    I am close to agreement here. The possibility of joining in, under American command or as the Free Irish, like the Free French, could have been explored. But fighting, under British command, was never a possibility and 32 counties of Ireland were and are not free. Britain is still an occupying force there, to this day.

    ” There were more Republicans and IRA men involved in Spain during the Civil War than there were in the submarine incident.”

    Poor decent sods.

    How did they feel about their pal , Stalin , and his alliance with Hitler ?

    I am sure that many felt betrayed and that many never had any allegiance to Stalin in the first place. The tendency to equate Totalitarian Communism with socialism but reject any equally stupid yolking of Poujadist Thatcherism to Fascism, is another example of lazy childish rhetorical tricks- it is see through.

    CHINA . Going global then ? Or changing the subject ?

    Neither- reminding you of a previous overblown argument you mounted.

    Well of course China is fascist . Xi Jinping. Dictator for life.

    There are perfectly acceptable and accurate words, totalitarian and dictatorship, that cover this so that the true meaning of Fascism can be remembered and resisted. China was never a Fascist state and is not heading that way. This is equally true of the Soviet Union and numerous other states who do not allow elections and representative democracy. China is a totalitarian state, practising Capitalism with , as yet, few concessions toward representation by the people. A bit like the early days of the USA where a “Free Peoples ” State was founded with slavery embedded in its constitution- was it a fascist state?

  11. I am heading out now but someone should link the Tom Devine interview on Radio Shortbread from just after the 8 o’ clock news bulletin. He absolutely guts the hysteria around the current push for Strict Liability, which, this morning is being spearheaded by the notorious eejit, Gordon Smith.

    =======================================================================

    Well , Ernie .

    Can this be a first ?

    Absolutely agree.

    Finally , Ireland has faced up to the shameful history of the Catholic Church in Ireland .

    Time perhaps for her to face up to the facts in relation to Nazi sympathisers during that period of its history .

    Maybe then the Green Brigade can attain the perspective which only facts can convey .

    And the rest of us can support Celtic , the very name of which was chosen and intended deliberately to encompass Ireland AND Scotland .

    But currently , you`d never guess that .

  13. Re Strict liability…

    Not on here everyday, haven’t seen any discussion/posts regarding the possibility or it’s potential affect on our club. So might be posting old news here.

    Anyway , my main concern around strict liability for football clubs is the potential for Celtic’s many enemies in Scotland to act as a group or individually as an ‘ agent provocateur ‘ to bring sanctions against our club.

    How difficult would it be for someone to get a ticket in our section with the intent to cause havoc with a smoke bomb etc ?

    The Kilmarnock chairman I see is on record ( after a quick swatch at google ) as saying there should be points deducted from clubs for fans misconduct or words to that effect.

    Anyone else concerned this will be pushed through and we’ll be hit hardest ?

    Look at the fine we got from the SFA for poaching TB from Kilmarnock and the previous highest fine for the same offence . If passed , they’ll hammer us and relish doing so in the hope it stops our quest for ten.

    Celtic as a club should resist moves for SL with every means available to us imo.

    HH

  14. Below is a list of potential sanctions from the bill that was being proposed in 2016, there may be a more up to date one?

    Anyway, here’s what was being proposed then…

    warning;

     reprimand;

     fine;

     ban from selling tickets to supporters for away matches;

     annulment of the result of a match;

     order that a match be replayed;

     deduction of points (for the current and/or a future competition);

     order that a match be forfeited;

     playing of a match behind closed doors;

     full or partial stadium closure;

     playing of a match in a third country;

     withholding of revenues from a UEFA competition;

     prohibition on registering new players in UEFA competitions;

     restriction on the number of players that a club may register for participation

    in UEFA competitions;

     disqualification from competitions in progress and/or exclusion from future

    competitions;

     withdrawal of a title or award;

     withdrawal of a licence; and

     community football service.

    I was referring to the role of the Catholic Church during WW2.

  16. Are the SNP seriously suggesting that they are going to dictate how the SPFL deals with its own business, and what sanctions it has to apply to its members?

    Even by their standards that’s a bit authoritarian and intolerant.

  17. Are posts being deleted for no apparent reason or am I suffering from early dementia, I could swear I’ve read posts that had no sweary’s or no personal attacks and were neither racist or offensive in any way but when I looked a second time they had disappeared.

    Any break in the fitbaw and CQN goes a bit weird. Given our recent schedule, a week without a game gives me withdrawal symptoms, Add to that that all local Golf Courses are waterlogged and there are only so many visits I can make to local Diner for Cups of Coffee, think I may have to get a job.

    BBC Radio Scotland 10 o’clock news informs us six ‘lifted’ at Aberdeen game and a bottle thrown on the pitch during Hibs -Celtic encounter.Intended target of hurled bottle not mentioned.No mention of injured person at the Aberdeen match hurt by a seat thrown by non Aberdeen fan(s ).

  19. South Of Tunis on

    History is a complicated business .

    There was a group in early 1940’s Scotland . Operated under the name -Scottish Independent Movement . They attempted to get Nazi support for an Independent Scotland and offered espionage , sabotage and the undermining of morale in return . They wanted a German Scottish alliance – ” as a weapon in the fight against the gross materialism of the capitalistic -communistic union of English ,Americans and Bolsheviks “.

    They were lifted and imprisoned .

  20. Morning CQN,

    still getting over being ditched at the footballing altar – thanks for the memories B****** but in Neil Lennon we trust, a word I doubt you understand.

    Anyway coming in from the lurk to point you in the direction of the documentary “Nae Pasaran” which is about workers at the Rolls Royce factory in East Kilbride who refused to carry out repairs for Hawker Hunter plane engines to show support for the people of Chile suffering under the Pinochet regime.

    It’s available on the BBC Iplayer right now. The trailer is here; https://naepasaran.com/ where you can also pre-order the dvd.

    Have a hanky at hand because this film will bring tears to your eye.

    i think celtic need to sort out how they distribute away tickets

    i think they should only be given out to fans aged 46 and over, and who can state categorically that they arent a coke-head or reeking of Buckie

  22. MACJAY1 @ 6:04 AM,

    Well quite… he was certainly too ambitious for Celtic that’s for sure and there has been no shortage of those who plunged the dagger in…

    Interesting that the players have been quietly supportive.

    Wonder who his “Et tu …………..” would be?

    The Celtic managerial role is an interesting one for a man of ambition. If this paragraph from that MoS piece is correct, and I would suggest it is…

    “There is much to admire about Scottish football and the values it holds but winning the league is what is expected of the Celtic manager now. It is the bare minimum requirement. Anything else would be failure.

    It’s a poison chalice to a certain extent… you wouldn’t want to be the ghuy who drops the ball on the way to 10iar…

    Hail Hail

  23. lets all do the huddle ? on

    i think if serious criminal offences are being committed inside football grounds then politicians are more than entitled to become involved, especially if it looks the football authorities or police are unable to sort it out

  24. Ernie,

    An announcement of impending SL or similar will have the SNP party conference in raptures. This scenerio becomes more likely by the day.

    The most recent costly revelation that the BTP will not be merged into Police Scotland only makes it more when, not if.

    As for the latest bill from Hibs for broken seats. Hard to believe that they were maliciously damaged. I would wager that the said seats were in poor condition prior to the game and were not robust enough to accommodate an exuberant crowd.

    Celtic should question if our fans are being endangered by sitting on poorly maintained sub standard seats that are hardly ever used.

    HH.

  25. lets all do the huddle ? on

    i think most of the damaged seats probably got broken when the fans were jumping about to the doo doo doo doo-doo tune at the end of the game

  27. Stopped reading that mail on Sunday article that was posted on here when the author states that, Leicester are a better team and have better players than Celtic. Prove it . Don’t remember playing them this season, maybe if he’d said probably I would have read on.

    Maybe someone who regularly watches English football could enlighten me with tales of the majesty of their skills.

    The whole issue is sad .

    Without wishing to trawl over the whole matter again , I fear that Brendan is the biggest loser .

    I doubt he will ever be allowed to forget the circumstances surrounding his decision to abandon Celtic .

    As an individual , I wish him no ill , but my generosity of spirit wanes somewhat in relation to his career path .

  31. lets all do the huddle ? on

    i now think i have the solution to weed out the trouble makers amongst the celtic support (and other clubs can take this on board as well)

    ask each supporter a cunning set of questions, and if they answer yes to any of them, then they dont get tickets for games

    the questions are:-

    1 – do you reek of buckie?

    2 – are you a coke-head?

    3 – are you a wee arsehole?
