History beckons against Hearts at home

352

If an invincible season in the league is to be completed, we now know it will happen at Celtic Park on Sunday, 21 May, against Hearts. While getting over the line is always the most difficult part of a challenge, away games at Pittodrie, where we play nearest challengers Aberdeen, on Friday 12 May, and Ibrox, where we play Newco on 29 April, will present the most significant challenges to our attempts to complete the season undefeated.

There is also the non-trivial matter of an away derby match against our oldest Glasgow rivals, Partick Thistle, on 18 May. Thistle are a tidy team, currently on excellent form. This is exactly the kind of game that has a tendency of stopping history in its tracks.  We’ve work to do at Dingwall on Sunday before any of this, of course.

The league split was conceived to accommodate competing needs for more teams in the top flight, but fewer games. This season it has also given us some really attractive looking games after the main issue was settled.

I know one or two who would like future fixtures to be arranged to avoid the title being decided during Lent. I’m not going to say this will be easy to achieve, but it could easily be added to the agenda at next monthly conclave between the SFA, the Scottish Premiership and the Vatican.

We have halfway through our two day raffle for TWO TICKETS to the Scottish Cup semi-final next weekend. Raffle is in aid of Mary’s Meals. To enter, make a minimum £5 donation here, then email me, celticquicknews@gmail.com with the words “Scottish Cup” in the subject line, to confirm your entry.

This is a short competition, so get in quick. Competition closes noon tomorrow. Many thanks to those who entered yesterday. Remember to put your contact details on your email, wouldn’t be the first time someone didn’t get the winning email confirmation.

All orders will be shipped on Tuesday!

Beatbhoy, the actor who payed Paulie in the Sopranos, Tony Cerico? was also in Goodfellas.

He was one of the mafiosi who put the postman’s head in the pizza oven after he delvered Henry’s school report to his parents.

The actor who played Vito in the Sopranos also player Paul Sorvino’s brother , Tuddy, in Goodfellas

Just arrived home last night from a week in Devon and Cornwall. Great weather, felt like summer.

Was down for a family wedding, in the Eden Project. Cool place as darkness descended and a bright moon joined forces with the reflected light in the “Biome” to create a magical starscape.

If you can avoid it, don’t drink Cornish Lager. The amount that has to be consumed to get a wee head on, will guarantee that the day after, is spent nursing a powerful hangover.

I thought it may be of interest to some on here, to mention in passing, my visit to Buckfast Abbey on Monday. In the battle between, spiritual contentment and enlightenment against the forces of Capitalism, your correspondent has to report that Commercialism has overwhelmingly triumphed at this venue.

A Café, coach parks, a bookshop, and two gift outlets occupy centre stage, with the rather disappointing Abbey relegated to a supporting role. The sale of goods, predominantly the fabled Tonic Wine, realises a profit of over £8m for the Benedictine community. This money is used to finance charitable works, according to Buckfast Abbeys’ own blurb.

Does any of that reach homeless charities in the Central belt of Scotland, does anyone know?

Oh well, each to their own, you do have rights to your opinion just as others have theirs, enjoy the next attack for it is coming.

The Sopranos “good”?? Damned by faint praise!

The Wire is excellent, of course. But it doesn’t quite have the monumental level of performance in the show of either Gandolfini or Falco, with that depth of cast to support them.

Why don’t we let a neutral like Bada decide which is better?

  8. Dallas

Yeah, I mentioned Tony Sirico, but forgot about the actor who plays Vito, another great storyline in the series.

I don’t know about homeless charities. However I do know that the Monks gave generous donations, on an on going basis, to St Andrews Hospice.

This was a few years back, so I don’t know if they still do, I can guarantee that information is 100%accurate.

By giving you that information, I don’t want anyone thinking I’m siding with or not siding withthe Monks. I don’t have the strength for a debate tonight.

  11. Thanks JimmynotPaul, Our daughter, son in law & Grandkids are going as well, different Hotel to us but the general idea is that we will share the child minding duties & give the lads a bit of a break. so it won’t be a booze up. Won’t stop me watching & toasting the Celts on Sunday though.

Beatbhoy …. apologies my friend… I was just about to respond when I saw the post above yours ….

regardless of anyone’s views on who is right and who is wrong (and it is never that simple), it seems like a lot of people (I just read that it could be as many as 100,000 ) died, and some people seem to think this is reason to celebrate …

I think I should take a walk before I say something that gets me banned from here permanently….

cheers mate. Will check in later.

    Beatbhoy, sorry about that.

I was told the actress who played Carmella’s mum in the Sorpranos was also Lorraine Bracco’s mum in Goodfellas but I don’t know if that’s right or not.

I read Henry Hill’s follow up to Wiseguys , gangsters and goodfellas, and he came over as a real a@@@hole blaming everyone else for making him who he was and what he got up to.

Christians who love death….a bit like Isis really, no?

    Same BS

  18. 100,000 dead ? To take out an estimated 800 active ISIS fighters ?

If that’s true, then that’s absolutely horrific, and…….

I really don’t know what to say about that.

    Totally lost for words.

Was it your daughter who bet Sergio and Justin?

If so ask her for a prediction for the Celtic game.

It might pay for a few beers for you.

Incidentally, I was delighted Sergio won, but I had to eat some humble pie, my son has bet Sergio in every major but a good few years, he’s not really a gambling man, so you’re talking £1 each way, rather than being gracious and wishing him well, I told him he was wasting his money. So I had to make a wee call on Monday morning to say I was wrong. 35/1 was the odds he got.

    Hail Hail

  20. Dallas and Phil.

    Thanks ghuys.

I do appreciate your kind wishes and prayers, please remember though my illness is not termina

  21. Sorry posted too soon.

*not terminal and I’m still able to work 28 hours a week most of the time, so many poor souls are much worse of than me.

I genuinely appreciate your kind wishes though, so thank you.

I am not looking for a debate either. It was a genuine question. Thanks for your input.

Another observation from my “missionary tour” down south. The Taymar bridge (the river Tamar forms part of the boundary between Devon and Cornwall) is still a toll bridge. You pay when heading east, from Cornwall, into Devon. Are people happier to escape Cornwall than enter it? ;)

  23. Evening everyone, just back in from the first service of the Triduum, looking forward to the end of my Lent now.

Quick question, is it tomorrow or Monday that is the official Scottish holiday?

Beatbhoy, thanks . My pal wasn’t havering , unlike me, after all. Lol.

Uncle Junior was my favourite character in the Sopranos. Steven Van Zandt was excellent as Silvio.
