Howe pantomime ends, what now

1566

Two weeks ago, I cautioned that the line being given to Celtic by Eddie Howe, that he was waiting to assemble his backroom team, did not hold water, “This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.”

With his former Bournemouth backroom team now free from football commitments, I understand Howe told Celtic he is unable to convince his team to come to Glasgow and is not prepared to come without them.  I’m not buying that either.  He either has one of the EPL jobs he coveted, or his strength of character is not sufficient for him to cope in Glasgow without a chaperone.  If it is the former, he has strung us along, if the latter, he’s too weak to cope here.  It is the former, surely?

Howe was clearly our first choice and the man a board felt it worthwhile to not only offer a huge contract and the opportunity to recruit the entire backroom team, but to allow him to sit on the pot until the end of May.  Like all these decisions, it was a gamble.  Your view is as good as mine as to whether he was worth the wait.

So where has this left us?  The ponderous time Eddie Howe took allowed a clear preference to emerge if his deal remained unsigned.  You and I will have a weekend in the dark, which is frustrating, but I am not seeing any panic at Celtic Park.  The new guy is not from the EPL circus, we’ll find out soon enough if that is a good thing or not!

Have a good weekend, if that’s possible between the two mood killers of managerial recruitment and lockdowns.

Why are some blaming EH for this shambles

The club does not communicate with the supporters/customers,,what if the club fails to communicate with EH for 1/2months .Why would that be ?

What if EH wants his own men ? Only BR got to do that and we know how that ended

Lenny excepted the coaches foisted on him ,no manager worth his salt would .

Don’t blame Eddie Howe ,the club is a bigger shambles than what we think.

Surely someone will have the balls to tell the truth

  6. Doesn’t know the Scottish Game

No idea of the goldfish bowl he would be stepping into.

Real question marks over how he would settle in Glasgow

    No European pedigree

Has never won anything of note

Doesn’t seem to be wanted by anyone else

Spent most of his career with unfashionable clubs

    Thank f*** Howe didnt come…

  7. One thing is for sure ; the events at Thortonhall and in George Square over multiple weekends would not make the Celtic job more appealing.

As one who criticized PL for wandering into the showers at Hampden to give NL the job I hope to God we do not make the same mistake again by rushing the appointment

The Howe chaos looks like it’s behind us – shame because I think he would have been successful

It looks like we fu–ed up by not tying him down earlier

    Stupid but done

  9. Hi Bhoys

I don’t think I have ever commented on anything on here regarding our team and the Celtic board.

I haven’t because someone would answer it and look for answers from me and quite frankly I can’t be bothered typing out an argument online. In the pub face to face is a different thing altogether though. I would argue till the cows come home.

At this time however I just want to say, Celtic is my team they’re in my blood when Celtic fail I get hurt.

When someone has a go at Celtic I argue back. When Celtic managers pick a team I don’t agree with I voice my opinion. When players have a poor game I let off steam at them, but when someone looks as though they have been deceitful to me, my family, my mates and most importantly my club. I find that hard to swallow.

I’ve met a few cqners and everyone I’ve met have a deep love of Glasgow Celtic.

I cannot of course speak for any of them on their feelings at the moment but I’m pretty sure they are gutted. All the bickering on here about who is to blame is getting us nowhere. Similarly all the posting of I know something or someone that you don’t know is leading us nowhere. If you have been told something by someone you know and trust and feel the need to post it here name them. Otherwise don’t post it and keep the trust they have shown in you by telling you in the first place.

By all means post your feelings/opinions on the current events but don’t expect everyone to agree with them. Also don’t expect to change anyone’s opinion. Especially someone you have never met.

Now my opinion Neil Lennon should have been relieved of his duties after the European shit show.

A new manager may well have given us a better season than the one we endured. Who knows?

The players were pretty much to a man a disgrace to the jersey they either wanted away, wanted a rise, here for the ride or simply not good enough.

The board I cannot really say much about except who are they and what do they do exactly.

Now the CEO. My thoughts are quite simply he had been in his position too long. No one could deliver a challenge to him as long as the money was rolling in, especially as the team were being successful on the pitch. But I do believe although I have no proof he lied to the Celtic support and shareholders on more than one occasion. If this is true it is unforgiveable. I have never met any of the RES 12/11 bhoys but he sure took a rise out of them. With his falsehoods and either manipulation of the truth or his cowardice. I also think he lied about not having seen the 5 way agreement to supporters and shareholders alike. He put a fence around our stadium to keep the fans from in my opinion a very legitimate protest. Finally I know he done absolutely nothing about the “improperly” registered players at Ibrox and the stripping of titles.

I’ll finish by saying Peter you worked hard and you were very well paid for your efforts. Now can you look yourself in the mirror and say it was all in the best interests of Celtic and their supporters?

    KEEP THE FAITH

  10. WOW! 🙄

An incredible amount of angst🤬 on here today…

Like most on here I actually know NOTHING about WHY we had such a crap season, or WHY we are struggling with recruitment just now, but the one thing I think is a HUGE factor, obvious since last autumn, and I don’t think, but maybe wrong, not mentioned today, is SFA REFEREEING STANDARDS!

Crap weather alone is enough for your wife/family to tell you to eff off at the prospect of swapping a cool but pleasant sunny winter walk on Bournemouth Beach for the winter dreichness of the west of Scotland. That is a hard sell!

Add in mindless riots and the possibility of your family being targeted by arsonists, or just general abuse because you choose to wear something green, or because your Husband/Dad is associated with Celtic… The hard sell is now an almost impossible sell.

Imagine that you are a player and you really want to shine, but you know that every time you have the ball your LIVELIHOOD is at risk from a referee-sanctioned assault. Imagine the same when you are off-the-ball. Imagine too that there are few witnesses and that camera evidence is highly likely to be ignored. I would not expect any player to shine in such circumstances. I would expect said players to adapt to the circumstances and play with their focus less on playing good football and more on just surviving each game. Who could blame the players for thinking that they won’t be allowed to play well and certainly not be allowed to win the league? 🤔

For me the biggest failing of many failings this season has been that we have not been calling this out!!! 🤬 There is a seed of hope in that Scottish Society is only now starting to call out this cancer of anti-Catholic, anti-Irish and anti-anything-green hatred. SFA Refereeing Standards is just one of this cancer’s many symptoms, but this season it has been left untreated and has been a hugely debilitating one…

In normal circumstances (a level-playing-field, not something ‘normal’ in Scotland) it is difficult enough to win anything. For being expected to win with Celtic when up against SFA WWF rules, would be reason enough alone to make any good Manager or player worth his salt say “Thanks, but no thanks!”

I really hope we get in a great Manager with the nous AND the balls to get us playing well despite the adversity. I really hope too that we bring in great players with the nous and the character to play well and to fight for the team and call out every unfair decision and to (literally) fight against every assault on a teammate.

My only real worry about next season is that unless we call out biased refereeing, and unless FTSFA refereeing ‘Standards’ (sic) change, then despite whichever Manager and new players come in, I fully expect next season will be just as crap as this one…

Fixing ‘Refereeing Standards’ is, IMHO, more important than fixing our Manager, players and background staff. Without this being fixed, any new team is already set up to fail.

And therein lies the crux of the whole issue. The 5WA, Res 11/12 and were lies told about the most profound issues relating to a level playing field and complicity in a rigged game?

And on the subject of trust, how plausible is it that the plc only found out Howe was dead in the water AFTER they issued the season book renewals notice?

We deserve leaders we can trust to act with integrity.

PS great handle. Love Sinatra in that role.

  12. What about this scenario?

Eddie Howe was out of work and when approached by Celtic about the manager job, He stated he would consider it under certain conditions. Surprisingly, Celtic accept the conditions and Dermot shakes hands with him.

Howes name is plastered all over the media as the soon to be Celtic manager. This increases his profile and includes the puff pieces Celtic placed, Suddenly, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Wolves and maybe Brighton become vacant. He gets some other options . Now this is a bloke who has spent all his life on the south coast except for 1 year at Burnley. The word is that he was homesick.

Suddenly, the challenges of Celtic look not so good and National news has Rangers fans rioting and Peter Lawwells family suffers an Arson attack. His wife or his coaches opt out. He breaks his word to Dermot and pulls out.

Mission accomplished. His name is quoted for every Job now and the planted puff pieces by Celtic have rehabilitated his profile as Brendan Rodgers Lite.

So he has went from a manager who got relegated and sacked over a year ago and not quoted for any jobs for ages to a Hot property, Brendan used us to rehabilitate his profile and Howe was originally planning the same when he found out that the rehabilitation had already started.

  13. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

On Howe. I’m not especially bothered he’s not coming. I always worried Glasgow might scare him. Although the Board showed initiative to try to get him, they had to tell him to s*** or get off the pot weeks ago. They couldn’t afford to let this blow up in their faces like this given the overhaul required.

  14. timmy7_noted on

All the unionists getting together to agree it’s actually Scotlands fault and nothing to do with the board. 6 months without a manager and its the fault of the people of Scotland, Peter Lawwell is innocent.

Poor Celtic getting bullied by the big bad proddies again.

  15. Truth Beauty and Freedom, excellent post but you know it won’t catch on, similarity with Bigbhoy. When my weans were younger and going tae school at hame they used tae sing a hymn with this line “….and they’ll know we are Christians by our love”.

The same can be said about the hunterlopers on here “…we know they are huns by their words”, too obvious when we are being told tae stop blaming the big bad ken dodds.

  16. Its hard to argue with the lads telling us to look at the big picture and the success we’ve had over the last few years.theres also those who devalue it a bit stating the huns weren’t there. They obviously dont get the same buzz as i do when we win trophies.even tho it only been one lousy trophyless season it really hurts.we really need a lift cos we’re all arguing about this n that.get a manager in who’ll get us all on the same page, excite us all,the fans and the players and scare the shit out the hun.just no gettin that buzz from Ange

Having read over many of today’s comments I think it is worth pointing out that whatever your views on AP and the whole process of recruiting a manager I think it is worth pointing out that that AP holds the highest evel of coaching certificate in Asia ( this is recognised by UEFA as the equivalent of their pro licence so there is no difficulty arising there), so please pause for consideration rather than simply assuming we have got something else wrong as a club.

I see outgoing (cough) CEO Lawwell has been briefing that well known friend of Celtic, Killearn hun Jackson, on the reasons for Howe’s cold feet; why there’S “no rush” to appoint a DOF; or it seems, to get the highly rated (by another football club) Ange in – what with Yokohama unwilling to release him, then the quarantine and all. And the badges aren’t an issue.

So it’s all good, big Pete still has hand on the tiller. We are very safe hands and can look forward to those ECL ties with huge confidence – assuming we have a manager and 11 players to field by that time.

There’s no sense at all this is a back of a fag packet panic. None at all. Lawwell is the master.
