Howe pantomime ends, what now

1566

Two weeks ago, I cautioned that the line being given to Celtic by Eddie Howe, that he was waiting to assemble his backroom team, did not hold water, “This could be the reason proffered for the lack of a signature, but I’m not buying it.”

With his former Bournemouth backroom team now free from football commitments, I understand Howe told Celtic he is unable to convince his team to come to Glasgow and is not prepared to come without them.  I’m not buying that either.  He either has one of the EPL jobs he coveted, or his strength of character is not sufficient for him to cope in Glasgow without a chaperone.  If it is the former, he has strung us along, if the latter, he’s too weak to cope here.  It is the former, surely?

Howe was clearly our first choice and the man a board felt it worthwhile to not only offer a huge contract and the opportunity to recruit the entire backroom team, but to allow him to sit on the pot until the end of May.  Like all these decisions, it was a gamble.  Your view is as good as mine as to whether he was worth the wait.

So where has this left us?  The ponderous time Eddie Howe took allowed a clear preference to emerge if his deal remained unsigned.  You and I will have a weekend in the dark, which is frustrating, but I am not seeing any panic at Celtic Park.  The new guy is not from the EPL circus, we’ll find out soon enough if that is a good thing or not!

Have a good weekend, if that’s possible between the two mood killers of managerial recruitment and lockdowns.

    Just saw your post…

I’ve no experience with wither of your guitars but they both look good & have a sound pedigree.

As far as the Fender Strats are concerned it can be a bit of a lottery.

I have 3, one made in Japan & the other two in Mexico. The 2 MIMs are 3 single coils with the original wiring so hum can be a problem – more so when you play live with other musicians and the amps & PA don’t gel.

I had the Made in Japan one rewired with humbuckers “out of phase” to give me the Peter Green sweet tone for blues stuff.

Fender do the Noise Cancelling pickups & they might give you what you want without the hum.

With the new multi tone switches etc on the new ones I’d be astonished if they produced the hum.

They get a good review – but then so do most new guitars.

My own preference for guitars to use are one’s that feel comfortable, have a good neck/fret & are well balanced. I hate guitars that are neck heavy (usually 24 fret necks). If I’m happy with them I tend to upgrade the electrics to give me the range I want. The after market in in pick ups is very good, but I almost always use a guitar tech to install etc.

    I have 2 electrics that I play mostly – a Fenix Strat & a Peavey Predator.

I have new Pick ups in both & new tuners on the Peavey.

The Fenix has Seymour Duncan mini humbuckers that are the size of single coils.

    The Peavey has EMGs.

Both have great necks & are perfectly balanced for my taste.

Good luck & let me know how you get on.

After reading over what has been a proportionately hunny-laden insult-fest, this little pearl popped into mind…

“It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it.”

    Maurice Switzer

PS To all the axemen; best I ever owned was a Tokai Strat that I foolishly sold to fund the purchase of an impossible-to-make-sound-good Rickenbacker 330. I should bill Weller for that particular folly.

  3. was reading some Australian journalist trying to give Ange a good write up

a few of them mentioned his man management, and tactics flexibility which sound awful

    More mike basset than klopp

japan would suit a person like this

Tokai were the first Japanese made electrics that got respect from most of the guys I knew.

Before I could afford anything better I had a CSL Tele that was really nice but I too let that go chasing something I never caught.

Rickenbacker bass & I automatically think of Chris Squire from Yes….

They are not very popular here in the US.

I love the idea of “Celtic Axemen”.

Sounds like a great name for a Heavy Metal/Death Metal band.

Off to design an album cover…

CORNELIUS & TRUTH_BEAUTY – can’t wait for the early roughcuts from the CelticAxemen; very Spinal Tap :)

A lot of early Japanese/Korean ‘tribute’ guitars were really on the money. Much like Japanese motorbikes too! British masses scoffed at eastern products back in the day, but how many drive Honda, Nissan, Toyota now?

Maybe our new Eastern import will turn out to be great VFM and actually able to out-perform the British equivalents. Best hopes are just as likely to come true as worst fears I believe.

PS Rickenbacker for me was the sound of The Jam; Weller had a 330 and Foxton a 4001 bass.

Why did Boris Johnson get married so swiftly.?

Because a wife cannot be made to testify against her husband.

    Fact or fiction.

    Anyway good morning CQN.

That was my first thought when I heard the news. It’s certainly a fact that spouses aren’t compellable witnesses (minor exceptions apply) but I can’t think of anything either of them could be done for that would rely on the evidence of the other.

My second thought is that she’s blackmailed him into it to secure her finances when the inevitable split happens.

I’m maybe too much of a romantic.

  9. So no stock exchange announcement today, but that’s maybe thought of as being more of a relief than anything.

How did it come to this?

‘All the unionists getting together to agree it’s actually Scotlands fault’

    ###

    It’s the owner’s fault.

But the Scottish authorities letting the huns go on the rampage, and the firebombing of Peter Lawwell’s home haven’t helped whatever you and your Braveheart pals have to say about it.

  11. Reports now saying the Harkin deal is dead and Maloney is tipped for the role – which would mean we can’t even start to sit down and identify targets until the end of June, let alone try to get them over the line.

Call me negative all you like but we’re getting very close to the point of no return for next season – a point where it won’t even matter who we appoint and sign because there simply won’t be enough time to hit the ground running.

    Lennon was sacked in February.

I wish people would realize that there are no guarantees with any appointment , the most promising can fail badly and the most unlikely could become a great success , its all part of what makes football exciting imo and if you squint really hard these are exciting times :)

  13. RPMCELTICFAN on 1ST JUNE 2021 8:06 AM

That’s very true but of course, the better the manager/player the lower the risk of failure.

The ongoing shambles continues to shame all those in charge of the club.

Another day, more silence. I reckon we’ll get a squirrel later.

“Will Celtic’s board hold its nerve? Will the fans give him a chance? Modern football is notoriously impatient, but appointing Postecoglou without allowing for a period of adjustment would be asking for trouble. Communication out of Parkhead has to be spot on.

But it should be worth it. The track record is there, as is the hunger and ambition. “I’ll back myself in any league or in any position to have success,” he told The Guardian in 2018.

Australians have known for years that an accomplished manager deserving of broader acclaim was hiding in plain sight. Celtic’s talent spotters should be applauded. They are giving their fans one heck of a ride.”

I’m starting The Godfather trilogy – never watched them all.

    —–

The first two are brilliant. The third, in comparison, is pretty poor.

Whatever happened to the days when Oscar winners were of the standard of the Godfather. Nomadland, The Sound of Metal, while they are decent films, they’re hardly on the same planet.

We’ll probably know the next Oscar winner before we have a new manager or DOF. Did Celtic actually say they were going to appoint a DOF, or is this something that grew arms and legs?
