The Celtic Supporters Association Rally in the Kerrydale Suite last night was a complete joy. On the way out I remarked that the club was in good hands with the Association. This was their 64th annual rally, over generations they have protected and cultured the unique spirit of our football club.
For me, it was the third opportunity in a week to hear the Thai Tims, who performed an excellent set. Paul Lennon of the Good Child Foundation is a real inspiration and example to us all.
It was also a great opportunity to spend a few hours with many from the CQN community, always a treat. I know one CQN’er who is going to think twice before digging up Tom (“get your facts right”) Boyd on the blog again, just in case our former treble winning captain reads it and goes looking for him on a night out.
To continue the spirit of what we are all about, on Saturday 19th May there is a charity dinner in Glasgow for The Andrea Kearney Fund, which supports women who are diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy. The fund in memory of Andrea, who was diagnosed while expecting her fifth child and died in 2008, aged 41.
It promises to be a great night for an important cause, I hope you can support it. You can book tickets here. I look forward to seeing you there.

There is legal recourse, taking these organisation on in a court of law is always an option, the sfa were/are complicit in cheating and loss of earnings, but it appears the board agree with the rest, sporting integrity is a poor second to commerce.

Remember not too long ago it was seriously being considered, it was very quickly derailed by them. They turned a serious campaign into a shambles of a publicity roadshow very very quickly and they’ll will do the same again.
Michael Johnston (absolutely no relation) has stated the argument for the Newco huns’ entry to the SPL very simply: “Member clubs are mindful of a sporting integrity aspect but the commercial benefits outweigh that.”
But that sets him, and other club chairmen who feel the same, in direct opposition to Michel Platini and UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.
And for a newco to play in the SPL next season, UEFA woud need to grant an exception to its Club Licensing rules, which are based on the principles of Financial Fair Play.
Now let’s be clear here. If UEFA was to grant an exception in these circumstances it would be throwing Financial Fair Play right out of the window. Platini’s big idea would be stone dead.
They would be setingt a precedent. And not just for Scotland but for the whole of Europe.
How many top clubs are struggling with debts? And how many of them would love to dump those debts, coming back as newcos? If UEFA makes an exception for a club in a middling league, a club ranked 50th in Europe and falling, what could it do if a big club asked for the same consideration? Or several big clubs?
No, UEFA simply cannot allow a newco into the SPL.

It’s clear that Scottish football will bend over for them. UEFA has every reason not to.

I understand the emotion in your argument. I appreciate the logic.
But what if the SPL NEwco Rangers (if it happens) turn out to be crippled because of their desperation to be in the SPL?
And besides which Ernie, here’s my emotional argument and one we have been using for years now: I love CEltic without reference to them. I cannot walk away from Celtic if Newco get in to the premier league. Perhaps it’s like saying I will no longer shop at my favourite local grocers that I have supported all my life because Tesco are moving in to town and I totally disagree with them coming to the town and ruining local business.
If enough people take the attitude that they are finished with football if Newco get in to the SPL then ironically it will be Celtic Supporters who cause Celtic’s demise.
Whatever happens, as a brother Tim, I urge you, respectfully, to commit to supporting Celtic rather than abandoning them.

Since the Admin men announced their man Bill Miller the other day, I can’t help thinking that this is the calm before the storm.
This is a saga with more than it’s fair share of protagonists, a number of whom have been fairly subdued in recent weeks.
I get the impression that the time is ripe for the MBB, TicketUs, and Hector to take their place on centre stage.
I doubt if it will be a synchronized choreography.

If this is indeed a trail that leads from Ibrox to the banks and complicity is enormous then it will be the same in other countries. If Rangers fall, who else follows? Does Uefa want to bring down itself? A wee test case in a godforsaken backwater might be too convenient an opportunity to ‘wait and see’.

Imagine Celtic could do another 9 in a row.
Would you rather win the first 3 (at least) titles with No Rangers in the league and them being able to say those titles are tainted (in their own mad little minds but it would nevertheless be annoying)
OR
Would you rather they were in the top flight and we could lord it over them at the same time while they suffer as we did in the 90’s?
A part of me really would like option 2 although I completely understand the Division 3 thing.
