Impose a player on the manager or pay up

422

The Barton issue: it seems bizarre to suspend a player for four weeks after an incident, more so to extend that by a further week immediately before a clear-the-air meeting, but it’s not.

This has got nothing to do with the player. Whatever he did with a team-mate in the aftermath of our 5-1 win a month ago has nothing to do with his continuing suspension. Nor is the player’s subsequent charge for gambling on football.

I’m pretty sure it’s not even about money, or the player’s lack of ability. This is about the manager and his board. Who authorised his signing in the summer and on what basis was he employed? Warburton has played his hand by passing the issue up to his board. The board can try to impose the player on the manager, again, or they can find the money to make the problem go away.

Or maybe the manager will go instead.

Yes it looked an awesome game and what a crowd, soccer

is booming here in Oz here’s an extract from the FOOTBALL

FEDERATION VICTORIA newsletter which is sent round all the

    clubs.

    BOOM… BOOM …BOOM

A massive 13%in registered players meant Victoria led the way

in the last 12 months as football became Australias favourite

    sport.

1.19 million australians are playing football

More girls aged 6-13 years old are playing football than any other

    sport

Victoria was central to this success with major events like the

international champions cup where 220.000 fans witnessed stars

from Real Madrid, Man City, and AS Roma in Melbourne July 2015.

Must be a good time for an enterprising club like maybe Celtic

opening a wee shoppe or even a stall over here :-))

I’m hoping to go to Ireland in the future to do some family tree stuff .

*I went over tae Enniskillen when I was still in primary, might have been around the time of “when the shades of night came down”, close by anyway. Cannae remember much other than touring churches and oul buildings.

My da’s cousin took me tae the pictures and when GSTQ was played I did what all Scottish weans did and just sat on my seat, next thing I’m having my collar pulled and yanked tae my feet, and that was by my family member, and she was a Republican.

Years later we Mrs TT and I went over, drove fae Dumbarton to Stranraer and then over tae Larne. When we disembarked there was this amazing feeling inside, it felt like I was home.

When we crossed the border at Derry I got out the car and did the papal kissing the ground. We stayed the night in Ballyshannon as my da had family there and then the next morning left for Connemara.

Enroute we stopped at Yeat’s Cottage and then the Marian Shrine at Knock, before we left I said a wee prayer at the gable end of the small parish church of Saint John the Baptist where the apparition of Our Lady, Saint Joseph, and Saint John the Evangelist appeared.

On leaving when I turned the radio on in the car John Collins had just scored in the lion’s den, no saying I did that but as our host would say hmmm. We played a tape of 50 rebel songs all the way tae Clifden.

I’ll never forget the feeling of calmness running through me on that whole trip, a true homecoming.

We’ve already got that Irish pub selling Celtic gear in the

rebel town of Mornington but would linking with a Melbourne

club like Man City have done not increase Celtic’s exposure

especially with our huge fan base already here and big Tom

    Rogic getting rave reviews.

Arsenal are already sniffing about the amateur leagues here

I seem to remember that Tom Rogic was a Willie Wallace spot. I would hope that Paul Mc Stay would be doing the same , although I haven`t heard much about Paul for quite some time. He may be keeping a low profile.

Commercial links with other clubs are probably essential. I would have thought Liverpool would be a goer . Most of the Liverpool supporters I have met have Celtic sympathies.

Our absence for the last two years was a huge frustration for me partly because of our absence of relevance in Oz.
