Impose a player on the manager or pay up

422

The Barton issue: it seems bizarre to suspend a player for four weeks after an incident, more so to extend that by a further week immediately before a clear-the-air meeting, but it’s not.

This has got nothing to do with the player. Whatever he did with a team-mate in the aftermath of our 5-1 win a month ago has nothing to do with his continuing suspension. Nor is the player’s subsequent charge for gambling on football.

I’m pretty sure it’s not even about money, or the player’s lack of ability. This is about the manager and his board. Who authorised his signing in the summer and on what basis was he employed? Warburton has played his hand by passing the issue up to his board. The board can try to impose the player on the manager, again, or they can find the money to make the problem go away.

Or maybe the manager will go instead.

” re the perceived necessity for the British border to begin at Dublin Airport and the Irish ports..”

As one who takes very little interest in daily politics, I have to ask : What is that about?

Quite interesting thing is that most people who considered themselves ‘left wing’, when they complete attitude surveys, actually aren’t – they’re centre right.

To be fair to the SNP I don’t think they’ve really pushed themselves as left wing, rather than hitting the socially responsible tag very heavily. That they’re perceived now as the mainstream party of the left, has been a very clever move by them.

  3. VFR800A @ numerous this morning.

    Your logic is absolutely sound.

The EU vote in Scotland produced over a million votes to leave. This was despite the fact that every main party and politician was advocating a remain decision, unlike the rest of the U.K. where advice was more equally balanced.

As previously stated , I didn’t utilise my proxy vote so I have no axe to grind either way.

That’s short-term economics; the longer term will, IMHO, be better. I can live with that pain for a while.

Part of the referendum may have been about national identity for some, but not for all.

Like you I have never voted SNP and never will until it is willing to offer a Scottish Republic with its own fiscal policy and own currency; and one which doesn’t fully rely on North Sea oil. One that will be willing to raise taxation on the better off (I include myself in that) to help those who are less well off.

Like you, therefore, I suspect I never will vote SNP.

    WEEMINGER on 10TH OCTOBER 2016 10:36 AM

I am responding to the statistical arguments that others offer; I know I cannot extrapolate the intentions of non-voters; in the same way they cannot say 62% voted to remain in the UK – it was less than 42%. And 45% didn’t vote for independence – it was less than 38%.

I agree that Brexit will not reduce all EU red-tape, but it will allow, IMHO, the option for more flexible trade agreements and a (potentially) stronger and more independent economy.

See above re: statistical arguments (always slanted to validate a specific viewpoint).

It wasn’t the “resounding will of the British people” but in a (flawed?) referendum where no bar is set (i.e. 66% of the electorate) the majority, rightly or wrongly, wins.

Not sure what you mean but I was giving my view of the general populace.

A Mass society is fed its views by the Mass Media and the Mass Media is interested in keeping the ridiculously uneven distribution of wealth just as it is. The rest is popcorn.

Those were my view over fifty tears ago and I have not sen anything that has given me cause to alter them.

It means that Irish entry points like Dublin airport and Rosslare would function as British immigration control points .Presumably contracted out to the Irish Government or staffed by British Borders Police (the latter might be politically charged ! ).. Intention would be to try to avoid hassles associated with a Common Travel Area and a 300 mile open border . .Some of the Good Friday agreement is also a possible big hassle for the politicos ..

Yes . the Flying Scot is all ready for the winter ( November ) – it might not see much action – i treated myself to a fabby second hand Colnago – a beast of a bike 1

  9. This is a thought provoking article on E Tims covering Scottish football and the kind of society in which it operates.

It has always perplexed me why it has taken three years and a campaign to get a straight answer to the questions underlying Res12.

I mean what is the worst than can happen now if those questions are answered? An apology from the SFA for using the letter of the law to circumvent the spirit of it?

An admission the rules that allowed a club to participate in the CL at a time when Sherriff Officers were calling to collect overdue tax are in fact lacking or that the rules are only OK if they are honestly followed?

I just don’t get it but it raises wider issues about Scottish society that are clearly articulated at

  14. We are told America is the biggest (they like that word) and best (they like that too, when talking about themselves) democracy in the world yet at the moment their choice in the next election is to choose what slightly less repugnant character from two totally repugnant characters they can have as President. They are basically being offered the chance to take one of two turds into their homes and have to decide which one they find the less disgusting.A lesser of two evils is still evil.

My guess is no matter who wins there won’t be much change made for the better of ordinary Americans or the world in general but that both candidates, win or lose, will continue to gather wealth.

I read that E Tims article, it was well written, and a few of the comments at the bottom of the article where good too, shame that it’s like phishing against the wind as it’s only a minority that will read it, but that’s the norm in bonny Scotland when the truth is trying to get outed, shame actually.

Sounds great. I’m mainly riding a Battaglin, imported and re-badged by a bike shop in Cornwall called Ricci. It’s mid-90s I think but I ported across my mid 00’s Campag 10s and put new Fulcrum wheels that I got for a bargain price. It’s a quite lovely.
