It’s not just about genius

655

“People don’t realise how hard he trains or how much he works at it” – Kieran Tierney, talking about Leigh Griffiths. Therein lies a story. One young player, who has worked enormously on his development, recognising the efforts of our other clear success story from this season.

Anyone who believes there is a consistency in the application at training of professional footballers is misinformed. Some are there early and/or stay late to work on their own. Some breeze in at the last minute and never hang around to run, lift or practice with a ball after formal training ends.

The club provides players with breakfast and lunch, but can’t monitor their evening meals or snacks. Or more. Some don’t need to be monitored, others do.

In three months we’ll watch thousands of dedicated athletes, swimmers and sportspeople of many disciplines, pretty much all who work on their development 24×365. Some live lives in the margin of early rises and hermit-like lifestyles. Most footballers live a different reality.

Things are changing at Celtic – and have been going on since before the Ronny era. Players like Kieran Tierney have been brought up to understand the importance of lifestyle and hard work. For years, young players’ attitude has been a major factor in determining if Celtic will retain their services.

Success is not just about inherent genius.

Well done, bud. That’s about the weight of one of my legs,I reckon!

Mind,at 6’3″,you have the height to carry it.

Guy at my work has lost two stone this year. He has diabetes,so he had to do it. Costing him a fortune in new clothes.

The current board have to go. They have completely screwed up,in virtually every aspect.

They can take their failed strategy and their OF mindset with them.

  6. Sadiesbhoy I post because Paul needs challenged on his now well recognised board propaganda.

Cqn has been used to systematically peddle the boards agenda to the Celtic support.

Now that their so called strategy has collapsed Paul is hiding like his pals in the boardroom.

He has contributed to this disasterous situation and his long series of squirrel headers designed to distract us from what was going on under our noses.

If any of you seriously believe that Celtic will change then why aren’t the board committing to change and why did bankier tell us only weeks ago that we weren’t changing our strategy.

They think they (including Paul ) can bluff this out and that you will all just fall in line. They are hoping you will accept the corruption and your place at the back of the bus. Just so you can froth angrily at the cheating while the board and the Hun board slap each other’s backs.

We all have the choice to accept this or not. It’s up to us.

  7. Sid

Doing good pal. Need to get a catch up sometime .

Big changes needed at the club from top to bottom.

  8. Can’t people just say who they WANT as manager rather than running down ex celtic players. managers or other potential candidates.. why the need to diss people all the time.

ADi .. being married to someone from Glenburn is almost as good as being from there! So, you’re okay by me, pal! :)

BMCUWP … I am running about 3 km a night … not a lot, but I had forgotten how much I enjoy running. And even only 20 lbs, I am feeling like a new person again.

I had to put a new hole in a belt recently. Was rather pleased with myself!

The only hard part is running with Derry … my lovely old golden retriever … she is struggling to keep up now. A few weeks ago, she was struggling, so when we got to the end of our run along the boardwalk, she just lay down, and she and I had a little lie down and a cuddle together until she was ready to get up again. Nearly broke my heart.

She still runs with me most nights. She runs at my side and holds her own leash in her mouth. For some reason, people seem to love it, and she has become something of a minor celebrity when we run! Of course, being a golden, she is a ‘people dog’ so loves all the attention!

I have promised the lads running Fatbhoys that once I actually hit my 210 target (I am stuck about 211-212), there will be a hundred quid to Mary’s meals as my way of saying thanks to them for doing this. Best 100 quid I have dropped in a long time!

    Auldheid,

I told you the reception I got from the Scottish supporters people when I ask for support for Res12, its an old firm problem, I explained it was a governance administration issue, he told me, no its an old firm issue.

So no time for self serving organisations pretending to have fans interests at heart, they obviously don’t when corruption at the SFA is dismissed as and old firm issue.

    =============================================

Well either it was the SDS not the SFSA or the latter have changed their mind, which I know for a fact they have.

    They have a manifesto

    http://scottishfsa.org/transforming-scottish-football-the-fans-manifesto/

that includes promotion of good governance and as their release today says they are more representative of Scottish supporters than the SDS but more important are independent of SFA.

Any organisation saying they represent anybody is going to change with time and will occasionally get bruised for daring to try and represent (how’s the metaphorical bruises there Big Man? :) but if we ostracised everyone for their mistakes we would have no one to talk to.

I’m not saying that they are perfect but they are the nearest we have to a group with some reach.

Things happen when the opportunity arises, that’s when you need opportunists.

  13. If Paul67 is a mouthpiece for the Board why has he been focusing so consistently on the SFA’s complicity in Rangers’ financial doping and cheating?

Jury remains out on whether the Plc are “old firm” collaborators or not, but they rarely exceed my low expectations. Based on the past few years’ conduct I think they may need to order in more of those seat covering banners… Very poor show.

  22. Leaving aside anything he said about trophies won fair and square, it seems not too long ago that Lambert was using his family’s welfare as a reason not to manage Celtic.

    He was on a skateboard…

  24. Wycombebhoy

If that was directed partially to me with comments about Paul Lambert, I’ll tell you why.

Paul Lambert imo dissed every single Celtic supporter like me who paid thousands to watch a rigged game over 14 years.

Our club lost potentially upto a 100 M, Paul 67 did a blog about it, yet you have a problem with me dissing the millionaire footballer, who was paid millions by our club, who then later says it was all won fair and square.

My first choice would be Brendan Rodgers.

  25. This might seem a daft reason for not being keen on Paul Lambert but he gives me the impression which may be wrong that he is too much of a gentleman.

Perhaps it was in comparison to NL or MON but when cameras focussed on RD I seldom saw him “het up” and sometimes players need that fear of a “het up” manager.

Of course Paul Lambert was an excellent player for Celtic and has a good range of managerial experience and that might produce performances where being “het up” is not needed. So I’ll do what I always do – support and hope. But if we do hire him Id want this guy in the dug out

BMCUWP …. dont worry, she is well looked after (sadly, that dog has a better life than many kids today).

She has bad arthritis in her front paws. so takes medicine every day, which has really helped. But the vet said to keep her as active as possible, as it is better for her joints, and keeps her weight steady. And now, even if I have to slow down for her (it used to be the other way round), that is okay ….

she gets so excited when I put on my running gear as she knows it means a run (and then a swim in the lake for her)… but there were a few days when I didn’t think she was up to it, so I left her behind … she stood at the window and watched me leave. The look on her face just about broke my heart…

  30. If as some are alleging Paul is just Lawwell’s patsy and this blog was set up to peddle the Establishment line, may I suggest that the plan backfired badly.

There are just a small handful defending the Board and the vast majority here are in various stages of revolt.

The Board have indeed mishandled the situation but acting alone Celtic could not have buried the Hun or brought down the SFA.

I’m here for the football and now tend to stay away from the non football debates, it will be interesting to see how things pan out but as ever my over-riding concern is simply getting over the line in the Title race, getting a good Manager in, getting rid of the deadwood in the squad, a couple of quality acquisitions and coming out next year with a re-vitalised squad, to make some impression on the European stage and to deliver our 6th Title in a row.
