King adherents reaffirm their faith despite every counterfactual

218

“Time has now been provided to allow Mr King to take the steps that will be required for him to arrange for Laird Investments (Pty) Limited to make a code compliant offer for shareholders’ shares”.

Translated: It’s a fair cop.

The former statement was made on Newco’s website by court order yesterday to confirm Dave King would comply with the Takeover Panel’s Code and earlier court findings.

This offer to shareholders will see some of the club’s founding fathers cash in their chips and ponder the wisdom of their six-year investment.  Allegations of their involvement in organised crime may, or may not, be valid, but the club will soon be more concentrated in the hands of Dave “penniless” King than ever.

Getting the money out of South Africa will involve a tax consideration.  The entire exercise will cost money that would otherwise be available for investment in the club, not to enrich early-investor shareholders and the South African Revenue Service, but the court has had its say.

As ever, this finding in favour of the Takeover Panel was delivered in language consistent with “favourable settlement” phraseology.  “Time has now been provided”, suggesting what happened at court last week was the spontaneous creation of time, not a clear instruction to perform against deadlines.

The ref flags are all there, we are clearly in Trump/Brexit bombast territory, where the adherents reaffirm their faith despite every counterfactual and the rest of us roll our eyes and wait on the inevitable consequences. It is a successful leadership strategy, if lacking in a long term survival plan.

    ” Climate change ” is a theory , an opinion .

    And that is a fact.

A theory promoted principally by those with a financial interest in doing so.

Remember ” weather forecasters ” whom we used to mock for their inaccurate predictions ? Well , they`re now called climate scientists .

Why was the term ” global warming ” substituted for the ludicrously banal ” climate change . ”

Because , according to N.A.S.A , there had been no global warming in fourteen of the sixteen years which they surveyed at the start of this century .

Poor old David Attenborough. Gone gaga.

    As for our Pope ……….

    ” Render unto Caesar ” ……….

Macron`s ” Paris accord ” is looking seriously like Paris discord.

All on the altar of pandering to the politically correct climate lovies.

Little known fact, the carbon tax was a suggestion made by Exon Mobil

  4. If you want to look into climate change, watch the on-the-ground fire commander’s interview on YouTube (that keeps mysteriously disappearing) of the recent fires in Northern California.

He talks of “intense blue light” coming from the sky and burning wide paths across the countryside, that travelled too fast even for his fire trucks to follow.

In other news, there is talk in the Senate of building a fast railway up the Californian coast, and derelict ground is needed to lay tracks…

Oh and Dinasaure are not extinct there’s proof they exist in every argument that denies global warming, increased ice caps melting, permafrost reduction and sea temperature rise are indisputable facts.

    Sin City Bhoy,

I expect something like that would have been caught on camera but all there is, is an interview, sorry, too many mobile phones to have missed something like that.

  7. The Gulf stream is diminishing as I type this, the UK climate will be like that of the Nordic countries, some even reckon parts of the brit isles will be covered in perma frost when it goes, the speed it’s dwindling away is astonishing, but nothing to worry about, the money men tell us everything is hunky dory.

    Just as I said.

The North Atlantic current has slowed, according to these men who live on the sea, by around 20% due to fresh water melt from the Arctic.

    Anecdotal evidence.

Strange unusual climate conditions in the early `60s were caused by ” thae sputniks ” .

  11. Your awe daft.

Taking scientific analysis and data to come to informed opinion of what is happening in the world is a waste of time.

I mean Attenborough and the pope. What would they know.

Meanwhile somewhere in a land far far away someone knows better.

    Will you just be told.

    Sanctimonious Saint Stivs. Port Glasgow.

The area was completely evacuated. The fire crews were completely surrounded by flames higher than office blocks. This was during the time the town of Paradise literally disappeared off the map.

Why would a fire chief of 35 years outstanding and immaculate service risk his reputation to be quoted in this manner?

  16. In retrospect, my posts about the Californian fires may have been hasty and a little crass, considering someone from that area, whom I consider a friend lost his own friends in this tragedy.

Big blue lights coming out of the sky, would be visible from further away, no.

As for why anyone would make up such a story, money usually works.

“Very likely” was enough to sent the western world into full condemnation and trade embargo mode when it was directed at the Russians, why wouldn’t it be enough to now ?

  23. Celtic have banked $1.2m from FIFA following the World Cup this summer.

Figures released today show that the Parkhead side earned $1,185,062.50 for having Belgium’s Dedryck Boyata, Sweden’s Mikael Lustig, Costa Rica’s Cristian Gamboa and Australia’s Tom Rogic in attendance at the tournament in Russia.

FIFA’s club benefits programme means that a share of the revenue from the tournament is divided between clubs who provided players for the World Cup.

In total, $209m will be paid out to 416 clubs from 63 associations.

Clubs who provided the bulk of players for the tournament inevitably banked the biggest dividend with Manchester City, Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, PSG, Chelsea, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Monaco all topped the table for the most amount earned.

Celtic banked the most of any Scottish club.

Aberdeen will receive $80K, while Hibs will be boosted by a cheque just shy of $120k. Rangers earned $181,000.

Climate change ” is a theory , an opinion .

    And that is a fact.

We have been over this several times. A theory is not just an opinion. A theory is a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain phenomena. It is the best fit explanation that covers observable data and experimantal findings. Above all else, it sets itself up to be disprovable. That is the basic value of a theory. A statement or opinion that does not lay itself open to being disproved can not ever be held to be a theory; it is merely a dogma or principle established by faith.

You will have heard of The Theory of Relativity (Special and General), The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection, and Copernicus’s theory of Heliocentrism.

They may have arisen from speculation, hypothesis and insight but they rise above the value of mere unevidenced opinion because they bring in supportive evidence including having to account for exceptions or anomalies. They were not just blindly thought up in an armchair and set down on paper asking to be acccepted.

Both Galileo and Pope Urban VIII had opinions on whether the sun or the earth was the centre of the known universe. Galileo marshalled observations and facts to support his views. The Pope summoned soldiers, threats and torturers to “win” the argument. Only one of them did any work to prove anything.

Any eejit can have an opinion. They are not all of equal value. There are ways of sorting wheat from chaff. I would love it if Paul Kammerer had proven the Lamarckism view on acquired characteristics in evolution, as he claimed to have done. It would be a much more positive and hopeful world if we could acquire the biological characteristics we knew we would needto face the future but we can’t. We can only value diversity in the hope that one sub-set, at least, of humans will thrive under changing conditions. Otherwise another species becomes dominant on our planet.

Much as I, and many people would love it to be true, the only evidence for it that ever emerged had probably been falsified by Kammerer. So we are left with Darwinian theory as the dominant best fit theory. It is not a fact and never can be. It can only ever be the best informed view until another theory that accounts for more facts, observations and experimental results, emerges to replabe it, just like flat earth theory was replaced when the globe was circumnavigated more than once.

A theory promoted principally by those with a financial interest in doing so.

This is playing the ball not the man. It is actually much more true that the climate change deniers were attracting funds from fuel and energy companies to advance their views. That approach only worked for a short period as we found fewer and fewer scientists of repute willing to risk their reputation with the charlatans and fraudsters who were proposing it was all false. Nowadays all we can put up to argue against the views of several thousand scientists of repute is the likes of jeremy Clarkson, and he did not have to reach a senior age to become less capable of coherence than is the elderly David Attenborough.

When you practised your trade, did you consider that aromatherapy and homeopathy were of equal value to researched pharmaceuticals? Or had you heard of the Hawthorne effect? Or the power of faith and belief to effect change in certain rare cases?

The Theory of Climate Change has gaps and unexplained data to account for yet. It may even prove to be wrong in many facets. What it won’t be replaced by is the Theory that it Was All Just a Wee Statistical Blip”.

When could that theory ever be disproven. If we got 5 years of temperatures steadying or reducing and Ice caps recovering, would you confidently state that teh Theory of Climate Change was dead? How about 20 years where the evidence was ony mildly supportive? At what stage in the potential death of the planet do you begin to question the “blip” hypothesis? And will that be in time to do anything about it?

Thankfully, even the energy industry is now accepting the validity of the threat. We cannot immediately do all we need to do bu that is no argument for not doing as much as we can do politically. Just don’t make the Macron mistaKe of trying to get the poorer workers to pay the cost.

Trump promised to create ‘jaabs’ for for people in crappy parts of America. Really low paid jobs as it turns out. He hasn’t actually done anything from gov’t to stimulate these other than trade wars which screw up real jobs

He also said he would make sure these people were better off but has only cut tax for the Uber rich

The only promises he wants to be seen to be following is foreign policy (except the wall)

Bush Snr lost his job doing that

US is not booming; a boom is where all levels of society benefit

Macron is not a Socialist and you know that

Europe is full of capitalists, moneterists and neo-fascists. If it is in fire; who lit it?

  26. I supported the Republican hunger strikers during their protests for political status in 1980 & 1981.

Well done to CorkCelt and KingLubo for raising a very important global issue to the bhlog.

And then there is the plight of the starving in Yemen.

  27. BTW

    Macron is no socialist.

He is a centrist/populist with little in the way of a value base that is not entirely negotiable,

I can understand that anyone to the left of Le Pen can appear to be a dangerous red to some but thats what happens when we have had a steady drift rightwards since the late 70s; some now mistake the centre ground as just being close to but not amongst the genuinely fascist.

    It`s a theory. It`s an opinion.

    Just as I said.

The theory/opinion is if climate warming which is a fact, is due to human activities, seriously who cares if it’s created by human activities, there are measures that can be implemented through human activity that could help retard the change. The deniers appear to suggest there is nothing that can be done so carry on regardless.
