Knowledge management

I caught a bit of yesterday’s newspapers; the contrast between an article in The Herald, linked from the Quick News section, and one elsewhere was stark.  It brought to mind a very politically incorrect cartoon depicting a conversation someone trying to explain the consequences of a football club getting into vast amounts of debt.  “You don’t have the intellect to understand what is happening” was the active line.

This far into actual news [def: hard information about a subject] on how Rangers were being run by the board in charge prior to Craig Whyte’s takeover, some are still flogging “EBTs were legal”, “No one complained about EBTs at the time”, “Juninho had an EBT”, as though somehow any of this was in doubt or relevant to the question.

The only show in town, to use our favourite phrase from last season, is ‘Were players illegally registered?’  You can pay them in cash, by EBTs or by boatloads of bananas, you can pay them when they were playing, before they were playing or after, the timing makes no difference whatsoever, but did you record all contracts or did you hide dozens of contracts from oversight?

Anyone who, this late in the debate, is blabbering on about EBTs being noted in Rangers annual accounts either doesn’t have the grey stuff to grasp the point, or somehow believes they can knowledge manage their readership.  “You don’t have the intellect to understand what is happening”, is perhaps the message they are sending out.

  1. This from Celtic’s first ever match programme in 1929:

“Celtic’s change uniform this season is a white jersey with a large green V. It looks exceptionally smart and is reminiscent of the original shirt worn by the club, white shirts with green facings. They also had a green pocket with red Celtic cross.”

Sounds not bad to me, what do you think?

Morally you are spot on. My dealings with Celtic are that they are on the same moral page but have the business and personal issues to worry themselves about, a luxury we as a support do not have to bear.

I think we all, supporters and Celtic would do well to bear this inmind when judging the situation.

In terms of taking a moral lead, Celtic, like everyone, require encouragement, especially when the cost to individuals of taking the higher moral ground, is so high.

Difficult for everyone so plenty of slack needed.

Celtic ‘hit by Rangers’ absence’ – view from Portugal

    Champions League Group A

Venue: Celtic Park, Glasgow Date: Wednesday, 19 September Kick-off: 1945 BST

Coverage: Live commentary on BBC Radio Scotland MW and live text on BBC Sport online

A Portuguese journalist has claimed that Celtic’s poor start to the season is down to missing arch-rivals Rangers.

Jose Delgado told BBC Scotland that the view in Portugal is that the Scottish champions are lacking competition in their top flight.

“It’s rather curious. I think they miss too much Rangers, that’s the only explanation,” he said.

“In Scotland, you have two great teams and it seems that one lacks the other and needs, maybe, more competition.”

However, Delgado was clear that he felt Celtic would retain their league title over the course of the season.

Rangers are now playing in Division Three because of financial problems

“I’m sure, at the end of the season, Celtic will be the champions of Scotland,” he said.

Delgado said that Celtic were not the only ones regarded as having problems at the start of the season as, despite being unbeaten in their first three matches of the season, this has not been regarded as a great start to the campaign by Benfica.

“It’s not bad,” he said. “They had a draw in their first match, against Braga, who are also in the Champions League, and they’ve won the other two games.

“But Benfica right now has lots of problems because, on the last day of the (transfer) market, they sold two of their best players – Javi Garcia to Manchester City and Axel Witsel to Zenit St Petersburg .

“The club made about €70m, but the team is not as strong as it was.”

The Lisbon side will also be weakened by the absence of suspended right-sided defender Maxi for the trip to Glasgow.

However, perhaps most crucially, they could be without talismanic defender Luisao, the recipient of a lengthy ban for pushing a referee in a pre-season match against Fortuna Dusseldorf in Germany.

Luisao has been handed a two-month suspension and a fine by the Portuguese FA but is appealing the ban.

“He is the captain, he is the boss of the team,” said Delgado.

“There is still a doubt if he can play because Fifa can extend the worldwide punishment.

“He is travelling to Glasgow, but there is still the doubt that an email arrives from Zurich saying he cannot play.”

Do Benfica expect to make the last 16?

“Yes, Benfica has that expectation,” added Delgado. “Benfica was in the quarter-final last year and lost to Chelsea in a very tight match in London

“But let’s see how Benfica does. You know, matches between Celtic and Benfica have a long story and they always have the same result – Benfica always lost 3-0 or 1-0 in Glasgow and won by the same result in Lisbon.

“It’s very difficult to make any prediction about what is going to really happen.”

  18. FRANCISCO SANDAZA last night blasted the Third Division, claiming matches were more like trench warfare than games of football.

Annan became the latest side to leave Rangers licking their substantial wounds like an injured pussy as Ally McCoist failed to mastermind a win there at the weekend. The Ibrox club have now failed to win any of their three bruising battles away from home in the league this term.

And Spanish striker Sandaza said: “Everybody is expecting 6-1 and 8-3 but the teams are playing the game like they are hungry men playing for a Happy meal. Its as if they are pumped up like Jay-Z when he knows Beyonce is waiting for him in the bedroom. They are like giant Walrus’ rutting on a beach and are very aggressive and dangerous.

“The Third Division is not football, at least away from home, it is more like Pearl Harbour or the Battle of Sinope and we are the Ottomans being hit with big Tsarist cannons. It’s more physical, like streetfighting with a bucky fiend down Sauchiehall Street on a Friday night, with kung-fu tackles. Its also like playing on a farm. The crowd moo all the time and it feels like being kicked by Chuck Norris in a small barn.

“We have to win these wars and we must do that, even if it means sweating blood and bleeding sweat. We are the Rangers and as big Jig says ‘we must win every game like its the Boyne all over again’. No surrender.

“I was on the pitch thinking, ‘Bloody hell’. This isn’t football. Its bad enough that they guys you play against are crap but when your team mates can’t even pass the ball, then you feel like giving up. But you have to keep a stiff chin up. I also know its going to be cold in some of these small places in winter. I told Ally that I want to wear a balaclava and ear muffs when we play away from home, especially next to the sea. Its not nice. But we have to realise this is where we are right now, this is our present circumstances. And most of us realise that most of the other clubs in Scotland are not stupid enough to pay us such high wages.

“Thinking about the future is silly, the past is gone forever and never coming back so all we can do is to concentrate on where we are today, be awake in the Now. It’s not easy to settle as quickly and we need to be like a patient in the hospital bed- take our medicine that tastes bitter but heals us like the sickman.

“We have to change our minds and become more like the teams we’re playing against. When you play on these tight pitches in away games its like lance jousting in a Medieval tournament on an ice rink.

“When Ally speaks sometimes he looks like a giant talking Puffer fish and then he says something like “Keep eating the pies lads…and eventually those wee bits of help we get from the refs will start to make a difference. Once we get organized better and the establish can help us improve our position we will show everyone that We Are the People. Eventually we will get what we want.”

Why doesn’t Charlie Green just say what the rest of us know:

That the governing bodies of Scottish Football are held in such disrepute that it is near impossible to further impugn them.

  22. Aimar not taking Hoops lightly – Pablo Aimar insists Benfica will not be expecting an easy ride against Celtic.

  23. Charles Green has been issued with a notice of complaint by the Scottish Football Association on two allegations of breaching disciplinary rules.

The Rangers chief executive is accused of breaking rules 66 and 71 for comments made regarding the Scottish Premier League’s investigation into possible rule breaches in relation to EBT payments made to players between 2001 and 2010.

Green has been given until September 24 to respond to the complaint, with a hearing scheduled in principle for Thursday, October 4.

The businessman was censured by the governing body in late August for claiming “bigotry” was one of the motivating factors in his club being denied entry into the SPL, with Ally McCoist’s side eventually being admitted to play in the Third Division.

The Scottish FA notice of complaint in full

The Compliance Officer has issued the following Notice of Complaint:

Alleged Party in Breach: Charles Green (Rangers) Date: On or around September 12, 2012 Disciplinary Rule(s) allegedly breached:

    (1) Disciplinary Rule 66 (Bringing the game into disrepute by calling into question the integrity of the Commission, chaired by Lord Nimmo Smith and appointed by the Scottish Premier League Limited (“SPL”) to examine alleged breaches of the SPL’s Rules regarding the use by Rangers PLC and Rangers FC of Employee Benefit Trusts to pay players, by suggesting in a media interview that the outcome and sanction of said Commission had been pre-determined by the SPL.)

    (2) Disciplinary Rule 71 (Not acting in the best interests of football by calling into question the integrity of the Commission, chaired by Lord Nimmo Smith and appointed by the Scottish Premier League Limited (“SPL”) to examine alleged breaches of the SPL’s Rules regarding the use by Rangers PLC and Rangers FC of Employee Benefit Trusts to pay players, by suggesting in a media interview that the outcome and sanction of said Commission had been pre-determined by the SPL.)

Principal Hearing Date: Thursday, October 4, 2012

Mr Green has until Monday, September 24, 2012 to respond to the Notice of Complaint.

Rule 66: No recognised football body
