Losers of the Durrant outburst

450

Who are the losers from the recent Ian Durrant outburst?  It’s certainly not the Pope, nor any his co-religious.  I don’t even know if it will be Durant himself, who, incredibly, “meant to cause no offense”. Durrant’s status, whatever it is worth, will be assured by what happened.

The consequences will be imperceptible, part of a slow drift of affinity away from a football affinity which was once elevated by such sentiment and, in the 21st century, limited by it.  Sponsors are not the first to leave, it’s the fans with more between their ears than Durrant. The losers are the club and fans.

  11. Wow thanks ghuys I wasn’t going to post but reading back I’m totally overwhelmed by all your messages of support from on & off the blog it comes as no surprise though I’ve seen you all support those in need many, many times over these past years before I may not know you all personally but what we do have is our common humanity & our love of Celtic fc this brings out the best in us all.

  14. FESS 19,

From yesterday. Likewise sorry I missed your post last night. Unfortunately I was not drinking beer though :-)

Not been to Jakarta recently – more likely to be in Semarang, Medan or Surabaya these days – but if I find myself heading there I’ll give you a shout.

Looks like i’ll be heading out to SE Asia next week, Malaysia and Singapore (probs be in Sing to watch the Hertz league game with the SingTims) but no Indonesia this time.

    This week’s fun from refereeingworlddotblogspot.

Blessed are the givers of 45 fouls, 11 cards but no reds, 3 penalties but Aberdeen’s when they were 2 down. Theirs shall be a winter citybreak by the Mediterranean Sea.

Sevilla fc v Akhisar thur 25oct

Referee: Kevin Clancy (SCO) – so willing to learn the ropes

Assistant referee 1: Alastair Mather (SCO) – I’ll take your word on it

Assistant referee 2: Sean Carr (SCO) – token tim to take the basilica tour I guess

Fourth official: Graeme Stewart (SCO) – wasn’t this bloke called Stewart Graeme last month

Additional AR 1: Greg Aitken (SCO) – saw him playing rugby

Additional AR 2: Euan Anderson (SCO) – another madeup name. Probably in witness protection

Team Madden, in exile in Moscow this week, take note. Referee observer jollies don’t just drop into the laps of good folk like Iain Brines. You have to put in the hard yards.

  17. Am I the only one that raised an eyebrow on seeing the Dundee v Hearts fixture was on last night’s card?

An easy 3 points on paper for Hearts turned into reality, but what was the pressing need to play the game last night?

Whatever it was it gives an illusion of a competitive league and puts pressure on Celtic to deliver every game. Now that is not a bad thing as pressure brings out the best in us.

    Two possibilities:

The SPFL don’t want another Celtic title or

They know the value of the illusion of competitiveness on attendances and want to keep the illusion alive as long as possible.

Both motivations kneel at the altar of commercialism, but are they fair?

or are Celtic so strong they need handicapping?

  18. Auldheid,

Isn’t it just the case that as Hearts had a free midweek they we able to play this game, presumably brought forward from next weekend when Hearts have their semi final? We couldn’t do the same ( we were due to play Motherwell) due to our European involvement.

  19. JOBO BALDIE on 24TH OCTOBER 2018 1:18 PM

Possibly. The SPFL marketing guys are unlikely to be so cunning.
