McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

“I wanted to bring in another creative player into our midfield to support the players we had here but I’ll never bring in anyone just for the sake of bringing in a player. It has to be the right type of player and profile otherwise you waste time, money and energy.

“We brought in five players that can make a difference to the squad and can help it and we tried everything we could to get the right level of quality player in, but the players we wanted in just weren’t available to get and you can’t get a player if a club doesn’t want to sell him or loan him.

“But I’m more than happy with what we’ve got for now, the work we’ve done in this first window as a club has been very good and now gives us a chance to really focus on our recruitment over the course of the coming months to maybe do something in January.

“But they players I have here – I’m delighted with their attitude and energy and they’re only going to improve now as we progress over the next few months.”

  2. DAVIDOPOULOS…

I attended my first game against thems when I was 13 or 14,a 1-1 draw at Paradise that Paul McStay scored in.I was blissfully unaware of the billy’s bilious chants that day,too caught up in wanting to win.

My parents weren’t too keen on me going but allowed me to as my friends were, and I gave them the puppy eyes to seal the deal.

I’m not as worried as my parents were about letting a son attend. My bhoy knows thems have a vile songbook and he’s going to hear it first hand next week.I’m putting faith in him heeding my advice about what’s right and wrong as he has done in his nascent life so far and not being sucked down to their level by letting himself become a hater, too.Hate is something I advise my kids against,no matter who the recipient of it may be.My bhoy knows hate only affects the those doing the hating and that it is a negative and destructive emotion.

So,even at his tender years,I believe he’s able to cope with next week without it having a detrimental effect on him.I might be making a mistake but i’d rather let him experience it and trust he’ll not let it damage him, only time will tell.He might just enjoy it like his old mhan did at my first huns game.

Like yourself though,I think it’s each to their own and I wouldn’t criticise anybody for taking a different decision to my own.

Whatever, he thinks of it, hopefully he sees Celtic get 3 points to make it 12 out of 12!

I was asked earlier in week my relation to KU stubbornly I refused because of the pack mentality and anything I said before my identity was verified by Gordon 64 would have been refuted, He is a very good friend of a very good friend of mine and have met him several times, he knows family and friends of mine in Glasgow ,Donegal and in England and I really like him and confirm he is a real Celtic man. In my opinion he only wants what is best for Celtic glad to see things much more harmonised today and hope this issue can be resolved and see get back to supporting the Bhoys on the park. My really good friend recently invited me to travel with him to Cork as I wanted to see one of my cousins there who is now in her mid 80s. While there we wathched 66days went to kilmichel and also the place where Michael Collins was shot. (Also went to the 1916 museum in Cashel any body in that area visiting should make the effort to visit this superb exhibition) we watched Celtic v Well cup tie at a small Celtic Pub with his pal Omar from Lochee another great guy. On the way back we stopped for a couple of days in Crossmaglen to visit another friend of both of us, and where the welcome we received by the locals was unprecedented by their kindness as anywhere I’ve ever been. So people who think I’m a Hun after that will never be convinced . Tony Donnelly 2.25 I’m glad you had the rethink and apologised it takes a bigger man in my opinion . You also mentioned the apologies I received, which was 2 from Clogher (gentleman) and 1 conditional from Doc. However if the abuse I got leads to a satisfactory conclusion then it was worth it. It is my youngest daughters 21st birthday today and we are going to Bannockburn to celebrate with her siblings so will not be around till late evening to reply if anybody wants to ask me anything. Stopped off in North Berwick, booked a b&b and got pished.

    Then the Macca final followed.

    What a season!

Re the new club.I respectfully disagree.

An Tearmann. or can I respectfully call you Warbs? !!

There is no Celtic supporter going to that game who thinks of them other than what they are.

However, no matter how pure the motivation is, the perception to the world is, ” Isn’t it great to have the OF back again”.

No one is going to analyse the personal thoughts of the fans,

All that will be on show is a packed stadium, telling a story of bursting coffers.

The optics are what carries the story.

A full stadium = all is well.

A half empty stadium = what’s going on here.

A temporary boycott may hurt the club financially, but, as has been argued recently, sometime’s the greater good takes precedent.

I know it’s practically impossible to do, but if you take the emotion out of the equation, filling Celtic Park v them or Hampden Park v anybody, is just endorsing what Je Suis Darryl said and gives the club justification for remaining silent.

Brendan Rodgers delighted with transfer window

By: Martin Dalziel on 02 Sep, 2016 15:46

WHILE the rest of the football world worked itself into a frenzy on transfer deadline day, Brendan Rodgers was calmly working away at Lennoxtown, speaking to the club’s Academy coaches.

Not that the Hoops boss wasn’t focused on bringing new talent to the Scottish champions, it was simply that his plans were already in motion for the final day of the summer transfer window, and had long since been.

Being organised in advance allowed the Celtic manager to use the international week as an opportunity to take some time out to deliver his message to the club’s youth staff after a hectic start to life at Paradise.

And while deadline day passed without any additional recruits for the Bhoys, the Hoops boss said his team are in top shape after bringing in five top quality signings over the summer months before the window closed.

In exclusive extended interview with Celtic TV, the Irishman said: “I wanted to bring in another creative player into our midfield to support the players we had here but I’ll never bring in anyone just for the sake of bringing in a player.

Celtic headed into the international break on a high by going top of the league with the 4-1 win over Aberdeen after also securing Champions League football.

A week away from Lennoxtown will allow many of the first-team stars a well-earned break, while simultaneously offering some of the squad’s fringe players a chance to train before the team reconvene in just under a week’s time to prepare for the upcoming Glasgow derby at Paradise and the start of the Champions League campaign.

Having his players away from the club ahead of such big games hasn’t been ideal, the manager admitted, but he added that it was important for the players to take a break.

“Whenever you’re in the flow of games we’ve been in it has come at a good time,” he said. “Opposite to that, the players are away and we don’t get them back until Thursday but for us it’s probably come at a good time, with all the games we had.

“It’s a chance to recover and reflect and then September is a real exciting month for us and we can prepare for that.

“We’ve had a good start but we have to keep this momentum going, keep the supporters happy and help them in good spirits. We can only do that by winning games.”

Was aff oot – just in a caught your post.

The Chip (and the Wee Chip in the Lane) are still going strong – albeit with constant tweaks and modifications internally.

I was an infrequent visitor till my retirement – it’s an interesting hostelry full of; the wise (university types – lecturers and students), the luvvies (BBC and West Enders), WAGs, tourists and occasional assorted riff-raff (bankers and financiers). You never know who you might bump into!

Not long after moving to the West End – a friend introduced me to a group of ‘chaps’ in the Chip one evening.

Says my friend: this is my good Irish, Catholic, Rhebel and Celtic supporting friend P. As I offered my handshakes he says: P these ‘chaps’ are ex-Para; Lt. Colonel, Major, Captain so&so etc etc!

Oh! How we laughed……………. for months after that meeting – every time I walked down the Lane or popped into the Chip – I had this strange feeling my ‘bonce’ was featuring in imaginary cross-hairs!

It’s well named – their ubiquitous influence is never far from the surface here in the West End. :-)

    H!H!

  16. First of all I’m glad that peace has broken out. Papajoe has been vindicated, Kill Ultra & BRTH are going to correspond off blog. Somebody kinda apologised on behalf of Tony Donnelly that in a way seemed to be the catalyst that launched the Peace Process. Thought it was extremely funny when despite being the hero, Tony came on and said it wasn’t him. Luckily he didn’t follow it up with any cantankerous post.

So the big question now is who did it, who made the bogus Tony Donnelly post which started all the goodwill. Is the guy who did it a total villain or does the end justify the means.

Horrendous story.Replace your friend and his attackers with the populace, the players with politicians, and it makes a good metaphor for life.

  18. I should add that it doesn’t show the footie so we go to The Rock if watching a game in the West End…

  19. Yep the Ole Chip still going strong – I am to be found there on the occasional day with a Y in it!

Some good Celtic chat in there with a right mixture of types and good conversation – you have to be able to ‘bat the ba’ in there.

  20. I just don’t get this I am not going because it’s them, it’s the board, it’s a big lie etc.

I am a Celtic supporter, I turn up to watch and support Celtic, not the opposition, not the board, not the press, just Celtic the football team. I couldn’t care less about who we are playing never have never will.

  21. Sevconians at work very keen to see how Celtic handle the programme for their first visit ever to Paradise.

Seems, to them, if we do not follow the Aberdeen lead, then we are endorsing the same club myth.

Seems, to me, they are right, but also that Aberdeen have pulled a fast one, as they will have another three weeks, (two post our game v Sevco), to amend their website.

Make no mistake, we are being set up big time on this issue. Call your bluff time.

Celtic have to take the GB advice on the Brendan banner, “All in, go for it”, or whatever it said. I can’t recall.

    Massive call for our custodians.
